Eclipse of the Sun March 2015~Photo’s

I have a couple of hours to spare while my lively 4 year old Granddaughter is at preschool. So I thought I would upload the photo’s I took of the Eclipse we had here in the UK last Friday.

First the sky was bright and blue, and we thought we were in for clear skies

Blue sky, the eclipse was already under way and was a quarter of the way across even though my Small Camera couldn't pick it up.

Blue sky, the eclipse was already under way and was a quarter of the way across even though my Small Camera couldn’t pick it up.

If you look at the top of the above image you can see the wisps of cloud rolling in.. The sky was very strange,  I think as the cooler air started pulling in the blanket of cloud.

The cloud rolled in and this was the second picture taken

The cloud rolled in and this was the second picture taken

You can see already how its getting darker

Darker still

Darker still This one is darker because I used my Sun glasses over my camera lens to see if it showed what we could see visually.

Looking through our pin prick pieces of card we could easily see the eclipse by this time the Moon was around 2 thirds of the way across the Sun

Now you can see how much darker it was getting

Now you can see how much darker it was getting

But my digital camera was not showing what we could see.

Eclipse 5

What I could see visually without my pinned piece of card

I heard my neighbours out on the front of our houses.. they were observing the eclipse by not looking directly up into the sky. But by looking at the reflection through their windows..

I went back around the back and looked into my kitchen window from the outside.. Sure enough I could see the Eclipse perfectly..

These next few photo’s are what I saw..  I took these pictures  of the window.. Now you may see on some there appears 3 eclipses this is due to the glass reflection and the angle I took the photo’s

Taken through the reflection of my kitchen window

Taken through the reflection of my kitchen window from outside looking at the window

When this stage of the Eclipse took place, the temperature dropped it was cold, and the birds who had been singing up until this point in the garden shrubs all stopped singing.. The wind also got up slightly adding to the eeriness of this wonderful experience..

I then got out my Drum.. and did some drumming, and gave thanks to Mother Earth in a small ceremony to celebrate The  Spring Equinox and the Renewal of Life

Here you get the strange effect of seeing the eclipse 3 times as my window reflected the sun back

Here you get the strange effect of seeing the eclipse 3 times as my window reflected the sun back

I hope you enjoyed this little Interlude..

I will be back in a few days to catch up with all of your own recent posts.. In the mean time have a glorious week.

And hope to be back really soon..

~Sue~

I slept through the eclipse in no small part because of my medication! 🙂

What got me were the people who said it was going to be the end of the world! 🙂

I’ve lost track of the number of times, in my lifetime, that the end of days has been predicted – and here we are still going on! 🙂

Happy Spring Solstice my friend!!! 🙂

The end of the world dear prenin only means the end as we know it LOL.. The Planet has still I am sure a few billion years left in her.. As for Mankind well that all depends upon him. 😉

Thank you for dropping in.. You did miss a treat by sleeping through.. But the TV did an excellent job of covering it from all points across the British Isles.. And you probably got a better view from your settee.. 🙂

You are not forgotten either my good friend.. and will catch up at the weekend.. just lots of other things on going at the moment.. But just had to share the photo’s while it was still fresh in peoples minds.. Big Hugs xxx and Happy Spring also.. ❤

I’m so glad for you that the clouds parted enough to be able to enjoy the eclipse. The image of the multiple suns is striking and a cool effect from taking it through glass.

Cloudy days and rain, thunder and lightning here in sunny Spain prevented us from being the witnesses to this amazing Solar/Lunar event, but like your mystical pictures we have seen what others saw from the shadow area as it crossed the Earth. Many thanks Sue. Love, David

Yes, Sue, fantastic photos – I like the three reflections also.
The sky did change dramatically during the eclipse… and yes, the birds too were acting differently. I don’t know whether it was just me, but the temperature was a lot cooler after the eclipse than it was before.

Me too Tom… I was talking to a friend who experienced a total eclipse down south of England many years ago now. She said she witnessed a field of 4 horses who went together in the corner of the field, formed a circle with their heads and as the Sun disparaged it was as if they all bowed in unison at once as they dipped their heads to the ground all at once.
A Cat on the other hand went berserk jumping up in the air not knowing what to do LOL..
Yes the temperature dropped a lot cooler afterwards and for several days…

Really neat photos, Sue! I captured a short video back in 2012 when there was a solar eclipse that we saw in Canyon de Chelly. I remember how the birds reacted to the eclipse…. so mysterious, and it makes me track back to former days when the lights of the sun and moon was even more relied on. The eclipse carries a certain energy and bending light that is so unique, gives me chills.

Dear Sue, I loved triple through the window. Thank you for sharing. I used to teach school and we would have the children take a piece of paper and pin prick a hole in the center of it. Hold it in front of them and the sunshine would shine through that tiny little hole. then they could see the whole eclipse.Sounds crazy but it works. Thank you for sharing your pictures. I loved them.

Sue Dear, you have so competently captured this relatively rare phenomenon!
You grabbed my attention from the begiginning of the post till the very end, with your vivid accounts and the superb photos!Loved the moment when the temperature dropped and the birds in the garden stopped singing;they could feel this sudden current of cool air surrounding them. However, the strange effect of seeing the eclipse 3 times as your window reflected the sun back, took my breath away!Great experience and a lovely interlude with plenty of visual impact!
Enjoy your breather my wonderful friend!Looking forward to your next post while sending you my Love & warm Spring hugs :))))) ❤ ,Doda xxx

Must have been a great experience…and now it is treasured in the camera. Yes, the triple one, the reflection in the widow is indeed magical.

What a truly exceptional phenomenon that you documented, Sue! The images of the clouds was like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. I have experienced an eclipse too, and it feels so very eerie, as just as you describe, all becomes quiet in Nature. You did an outstanding job and you should be proud of your accomplishment! Beautiful post all the way through and I do thank you for recording history. Much Love to you this day! Have a beautiful Easter weekend. Love, Amy
