Most of us who are parents or grandparents think our children are just the best.. Because they are in our eyes. Not all children are so lucky.
I want to share with you a poem written by our now Eight year old granddaughter who wrote this poem in two sessions as we took her to school and back again. She composed this on the journey to and from school in the back of our car as we travelled.
I thought it so good when she read it out to us when we got back home, I said it would be a great poem to take to school on her show and tell day when they take things to school and speak about them.
As it was scribbled hurriedly in its composition on the note paper you see below, I asked her if she wanted to re-write it on some better paper and in her neater handwriting.. This she did, and she took that copy to school.

Our Granddaughters Poem first draft she scribbled down above. Then aged 7
Her teacher enjoyed it so much as did the head master, that they asked her to read it in their Assembly on their last day of half term, before Halloween.
So she read it out to the whole school and said ‘Grandma, I used the microphone, but I rushed saying it, as I wanted to get it over with quickly’.
So here is our Granddaughters Poem.. She entitled it
MY FRIEND.
Who’s that I hear you say?
It’s my imaginary friend
It’s Benge.
He comes when no one is around
When he comes he doesn’t make a sound
When he comes he talks to me
To keep me company.
I like company so does he, when I enter his reality.
We enter worlds of make believe
Of Dragons dens made out of leaves.
We play up high and flap our wings
We soar and roar and all those things.
We swoop on down and land on the ground
Up we rise, up up tall,
We’re standing on the castle wall.
Giants come we grab our weapons
To defend the castle.
Our Castle comes with a bridge door
But in our castle there is something more
What could it be?
Let’s explore
But first look inside the bridge door
We find ourselves on the bedroom floor
And my invisible friend has vanished once more.
By our Granddaughter Aged 7 at writing.
