It’s often the small things in life which make a Huge Difference

For One young man Johnny, He put into practice an idea he had..
And He Made a Difference not only to his place of work but a difference to the people who shopped in the store he bagged for.
Recently it has been reported that a breakthrough in Downs Syndrome Treatment in the “research at at Queen Mary, University of London and University College London have been working closely with the team in the United States who have published findings that could eventually lead to the elimination of some common but devastating illnesses linked to Down’s syndrome.”

I have tears in my eyes after watching that Sue, the whole story really touched my heart, Great that they’re making new strides in the treatment of Downs Syndrome. I keep smiling and passing on any help I can to anyone who needs it, ( one woman in a store couldn’t reach a shelf, so I asked her what she needed and found it. No assistants about, so I became one 🙂 ) Trying to become a better person, and ‘pay it forward’ is something to set your sights on, as smiling is a natural talent we all have, so why don’t we use it more, methinks?. 🙂 Smiling right atcha my lovely friend. and wishing you a wonder-filled week-end love and light, Pen xxx,

Hi Pen, seems Johnny tugged at both our heart strings Pen, me too… And like you if we can not give a helping hand to another then what IS the world coming to… It costs nothing to smile, or give a helping hand, and yet I come across so many aggressive shoppers who would sooner run you down than say excuse me please.. Sigh! Thanks Pen, Im combining the day sat in the garden at the moment, with laptop, squinting when the sun comes out as I can hardly read the screen LOL, but determined not to waste time indoors.. I did that this morning,, well not waste time, as I decanted some more Kombucha tea, then I baked some bread, and prepared some Salad and kale for the fridge in containers for munching on later LOL.. and had a visit from my Granddaughter.. So sitting out and enjoying before it clouds over as we have more storms forecast for this evening and tomorrow….
Herbert says thank you for the Hugs!.. And Hope you too have a great relaxing weekend Pen..

Excellent info, my friend … tears of joy … I took care of a lovely little girl, named Steffi, during my nursing training … she was diagnosed with MDS (Mosaic Down’s Syndrome) … she was the happiest person I ever saw in my life … and quite high functioning mentally … but she had a heart defect, and so she was rejected for surgery … never forget her smile … Love your smile and encouraging message, Sue … Love, cat.

arrgh glad they were tears of Joy Cat.. Yes many as you know have heart defects, and so sad she was rejected for surgery.. The Downs Syndrome lady I worked with came to us as her mum had passed.. But she loved cooking with support and could even knit a scarf of a fashion with a few holes lol… Read and write very well…… And many are very intelligent…and loving… Their smiles made my day! 🙂

Sue, what wonderful news about Downs Syndrome, I had a cousin I was very close to who had Downs. Thank you for sharing the story of Johnny, he transformed his store in more ways than he probably knows. To have a line of people waiting for him is remarkable as around here if there are lines people get testy and even mean.

Its about time that progress was being made and When I heard it I just had to investigate further.. And like many things in life, the Universe led me to the video, so I put the two together. Yes Kim as soon as I watched the Video, I knew I had to share… Supporting such individuals it brought a tear or two, as I often wonder how they are doing now… As our team was disbanded from looking after them and those suffering from learning difficulties due to local government cut-backs.. As the work was tended out to private Care firms… I took redundancy in 2010 after working for them for 7 years, and found a job with another Caring organisation Supporting Adults again with learning Difficulties as I loved it so much.. They can teach us a lot! 🙂

Hi Marja, I have had the privilege to support several adults with ‘Downs’ and each one there own personality, but each so giving.. And each could have their off days just like the rest of us 🙂 Good to know there is a group coming in where you are 🙂

Sue, I LOVE this. It’s just wonderful. I feel my job to be unbearably humdrum – unbearably, I tell you. I do nothing but “office stuff”. I achingly wish to change into a role which serves more of the human spirit rather than the corporate world. I’m seeking right now. I really cannot stand my soulless job any more. Wonderful posting Sue. My oldest Sister / Cousin is Downs and she is brilliant in ways we so often fail to recognize. When she was born in the 1949 her life expectancy was 12-15. My heart mother was told to institutionalize her, she refused. Candy was raised at home. Back then it wasn’t easy. Schools didn’t offer classes, my heart mother became a teacher and fought Texas for funds. It was a hard slog through, she won.
This is a great story and shows how much further we have come. My sister outlived all estimates. She was a joy to all our lives. She is still alive though now has dementia and health problems.

Val so pleased your heart Mother didnt listen.. the lady I supported was brought up for most part by her Mum, and could knit and read and write and enjoyed cooking with help.. I started looking after two of them one was in her 40’s and the other was my age..They lived together and yet disliked each other, and yet worried about each other when one was not there.. :-D.. great personalties… I was sorry to leave them when the government cut backs kicked in, and I have often wondered if they are still ok, as I supported them for 7 yrs ..

Sue, the video is just wonderful – what an amazing story and to make a difference in that way – I was really taken by it. So many people live with these, supposedly, boring jobs and it just shows that nothing is pointless or boring if you make something of it. The change is us – as you always say. Hi, Sue. You have brightened up a rainy, overcast day and brought some warm feelings in that blog.
As a speech therapist in Baltimore I worked with some Down’s Syndrome children. If they were treated well and came from happy homes they lit up and loved people. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to find a cure for this sad disease?

Yes it would as many have other health issues too such as heart problems etc… But wouldnt it even be better if we could isolate a Happy Gene and implant that in every one…:-)

What a fantastic video and a wonderful person Johnny is brightening up the shoppers day and slowing down the rat-race for a moment of thought.
The ones that rush to the short queue are the ones that are missing out.
I feel sorry for them and the baggers they go to probably never gets a smile like Johnny, they are hassled while Johnny is surrounded by pleasant people. Is that an example of Karama? In Aussie we call the bagger the check-out and they have a name tag pinned to their jacket, it is mostly a thankless job so I try to thank them by name with a smiling kind remark. As you say it is the small gestures that have a chain reaction that pass along the way making every-ones day. I really enjoyed your post.

They have not realiser grasping for things that are impermanent will not bring happiness. They need educating if only they understood.
