I am sure that to everyone who has had  a friend and companion in the animal kingdom know how much Good work the animal shelters do around the world in re-homing unloved abused and neglected Animals.

I would like to help support Paul in his endeavours of bringing  Barnsley Animal Rescue  Shelter ‘s Charity event into the lime light ..Details of which you can read below..
I will be sending my own donation to help ..

And for my subscribers who live around the globe I am sure you have a Dog Pound near you who may need a little thought and a some help in some way to keep their doors open to help save  those unfortunate animals that some humans in our society treats so badly.

A canine charitable opportunity that deserves wide support.

The details that follow strike a chord with me, strike a chord in a big way.  When I first came to live with Jean back in 2008 it was clear that this wasn’t going to be a normal relationship.  Why?  Because, at that time Jean had 12 dogs living with her in San Carlos, Mexico and my arrival, together with my Shepherd dog, Pharaoh (see home page for a picture of him), took that number to 13.  Jean’s dogs were all Mexican rescues; she also ran her own local humane society in San Carlos and over the years had found homes for literally dozens of dogs.

One of those Mexican rescues was a dog called Loopy, who had been terribly treated by local Mexicans.  The consequence when I arrived, a stranger in the middle of Loopy’s life with Jean, was that Loopy was very aggressive towards me; my hands have small scars to bear witness to the number of nips Loopy launched in my direction.

It took over a year before I was able to just let my hand ‘accidentally’ brush her side.  Slowly Loopy’s trust in me built up until now I can press my face to her face and cuddle her for ages.  (To underline the love that Loopy bestows on me, I will get Jean to take a picture and publish that before the end of the week.)  So with that in mind, let me turn to the details recently sent to me by friend and colleague, Dapinder Singh, from England.

———————

George and loving owner, Ian.

This is George. He was in an English dog pound and condemned to death.

He had been very badly abused, one eye blinded by what was thought to be a kick, he trusted no-one and had rejected all human contact.  He was desperate and in despair.

After an exhaustive search for anyone who take on the rescue of George, we (as in Doris Banham) took him into our care just a day before he was due to be euthanased.  His veterinary problems were easier to deal with than the mental ones.  His eye was damaged beyond repair causing him constant pain so it had to be removed, teaching George to trust again was much harder.

That journey back to trusting humans was long, George had suffered severe and terrible abuse,  but there was no question of giving up on him and slowly but surely he began to live again as we fought to undo the wrongs that had been done to him. After some months with us, a wonderful family came to the rescue and offered George his ‘forever’ home where he found the love that he so deserved. His family are completely devoted to him.

His story, however, could have been a very different one were it not for the work of the team at Doris Banham’s. Below is an extract written by the lovely family who adopted him and from our fantastic volunteer, Sheila, who helped bring George back to life again.

“Hi, Sheila. Here is a shot of George in his new garden. He is settling down very well and seems to be very happy. I will keep you posted as to his progress. All the best Liz and Ian.”

There were a number of photographs sent to Sheila, however I have taken editor’s liberty and moved them to the foot of the article – I want you to stay with this to the point where you can see how to help.  Here’s Sheila’s reply,

“WELL THESE BOUGHT ME TO TEARS , OUR GEORGE , THIS IS TRUE RESCUE , THIS IS ALL DOWN TO YOU DORIS BANHAM NOTHING ELSE TO SAY …” SHEILA X.

Are there other Georges out there?  You bet! Far too many of them, right across the world.  So let’s all do something to help these special creatures, who show us humans just what unconditionally love feels like.

This is a wonderful posting that brings awareness of the terrible plight that some of our sweet and innocent animals have to suffer on a daily basis, I cannot understand the downright cruelty that we see on our screens, and it is truly disgusting. You know there are so many heartless bastards in this world Sue, sorry for the profanities but it really is disgraceful my great friend.

Over the years I have supported WWF and of course more locally the RSPCA and RSPB and have helped with raffle tickets and the like, as all support towards our pets and wildlife alike is a worthy cause and something that everyone should be engaging in, it doesn’t have to be a lot of money either and there are many things that we can all do to help from time to time or by taking a stronger role with sponsorship or donations.

Actually the RSPCA are now doing something rather interesting, it is where one can adopt a dog or cat or whatever and instead of actually keeping the animal at one’s home it can be housed at the RSPCA and by paying a contribution, donation or whatever one wishes to call it, the animal gets looked after and one receives updates, such as the progress and some photographs of the adopted animal. This gives someone the pleasure of helping when it is not possible to be able to house a pet directly.

Another good idea is if someone is thinking of getting a new cat or dog, then it is worth thinking about adopting one that is homeless as this reduces the many stray cats and dogs around the country and offers them a real home, of course some, like George have been appallingly mistreated and cruelly beaten, and so by adopting one of these gives them the chance to have a real home and to be loved by someone that actually cares.

Now that to me is a very special
way of loving our animals and pets 🙂

A wonderful post, Sue. We CAN learn so much from animals. We know that they need as much loving care as people do–and that they love back unconditionally!

I’m glad you’re enjoying the excerpts from my WIP. I’m about to post excerpt #5 today.

A small blue urn rests next to mother’s bedside. Frankie
lived only four years and racked up a heavy vet bill. “Some
Women waste money on diamonds”, mother said. “I choose
to waste it on Frankie.” He came from the pound and turned
out to have both parvo and distemper, he got through them
but was left largely paralysed. Scooching around on his back
legs. He was a puppy when it started and never knew anything
else so I guess it was normal for him – smiling all the time and
wagging his tail. Our Uncle had many of the same problems
and always wanted to see him – Frankie was his favorite dog.
A yellow kitten arrived shortly before Frankie left us – following
my brother home from a walk and immeadiatly attaching itself
to frankie. It seems like every time we loose a pet something
somewhere sends us another, it can be a gift from a friend,
or a stray in-viteing itself in from the street, as if to say
“I hear you have an opening.”

Most of the pets we have ever kept.. including a Dutch Rabbit found their way to us and picked us… The rabbit just turned up in our garden one day and dispite asking all around no one claimed him.. He came along when my children were very young. .. I am sure your Mum would sooner have had the love of Frankie than any cold sparkly in her jewelry box Thank you for taking the time to visit.. And I have no doubts also Rastelly that our pets find us and are guided to the right doors where they know there is some love..

    Hi Sue,
It’s so good of you to post this and help bring support for such an important cause as animal rescue. Thank goodness Georges story has a happy ending…if only they all did! I have a close friend who is passionate about animal rescue, she has owned 2 dogs from shelters so far, and they couldn’t be more wonderful dogs.
Wish you a great start to the week, big hug, Nikki

I’m so about helping animals and although I cannot at this time do it I am sure this post will bring lots of responses to this dog’s plight and others. My own cats are rescue type pets. The oldest who died last year was going to be put down but I took him in and another born misfit is still with me and still another left abandoned by owners who did drugs. They are spoiled now and I so love them.

Me neither Unsungpoet I came across a horrendous video showing animal cruelty on YouTube the other day and had to click off, Its so upsetting that in todays World we so mistreat and torture animals .. Man-Kind has much to learn on the Wheel of evolution and has much to learn about unconditional love. Our Brothers the Animal Kingdom have much to teach the two legged..

Sue this is a wonderful story – so glad you reposted it – George is beautiful. I am so glad he found a home. It is very rewarding when they do. I have had a few foster babies here – five kittens and a wee pup – it was hard to let them go, but so rewarding that they found forever homes and forever love.

    🙂

Each of us, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives, and their reactions in turn affect others As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain. Your thoughts and actions are like stones dropped into still waters, causing ripples to spread and expand as they move outward.. I hope that I can send a few ripples out via the web of life, as we each of us weave the threads together... Welcome to my Sanctuary of Peace and Love... May we each spread our Lights around our World....Sue Dreamwalker
