Oban~ Scotland.

The above view  is taken of Oban Town, from the  The Colosseum-like structure of  McCaig’s Tower.  The view looks out onto the various Isles in the distance. Below is a plaque which shows you the Isles,to which the ferries travel back and forth, to Mull, and other islands, sorry the focus is out on the one below.

Oban means ‘The Little Bay’ It is from here you take the ferries to Mull, and other islands.  I took these photos from this advantage point. The McCaig’s Tower. Which stands high above the town

John Stuart McCaig (1824 – 1902) commissioned the build  over a five year period from 1895 until his death in 1902. You can find out why it was built by opening the link.

Inside there is a garden and it looks like this

To get to the tower you walk the steep climb.. We took the steps, all 144 of them on Jacobs ladder, we came back down via the road, it was a steep climb but well worth the view over the bay. It sits 220 ft above sea level. The circumference is 600 ft, and its height is 45 ft.

The view above was taken half way up when we took a breather as we climbed the steps.

And I will leave you with a view as we took the ferry across to the Isle of Mull.  This is the Lismore Lighthouse . You can see the snow on the mountains in the background.  More information is provided at the links.

On a personal note.. I have not been on my blog or in WordPress much this past week. The modem has been turned off, as I have like many this time of year lots to do. I am gradually working my way back to those who always leave me your kind comments..  So if I have not yet paid you a visit since my returning from holiday, I hope to catch up with you soon..

Enjoy your weekend.. And  Look after yourselves

~Sue~

Sue, I’ve been around a few of the Scottish islands and just loved it – the peace was magical, the landscape stunning and the people friendly. Seeing your lovely photos brings back wonderful memories.

I had to read about the McCaigs Tower – what a fascinating history. It looks dramatic as it is but would have been quite amazing if finished.

A lovely post, Sue and I wish you a wonderful weekend. (And good luck with the modem!) xx❤️

Hi Dear Debbie, Thankfully I do not have an up to date phone that pings and tings every email lol. So I can easily turn the modem off on my computer.. which stops the urge to go into blog land, if I should want to write ( I am trying to put that ‘book’ together ) lol. Got what I would call a first chapter done, Then its sat.. for ages. So much I want to do.. 🙂 And with Christmas, there is so much more too.. I will be landing upon your blog today for sure.. Sending Huge Hugs dear friend.. I so appreciate our friendship.. 🌹💚😚

Oh, music to my ears, you’re at least thinking about starting that book. Don’t get frustrated or discouraged, you’re just going through the motions that all writers go through when writing a book. There are no time constrictions, it’s all on your time. When the moment doesn’t inspire, walk away and work on other things – other writing or hobbies that relax you. Often when we walk away from our work, new ideas are inspired. Enjoy your holidays and leave it til the new year.
Christmas hugs to you my friend. ❤ xxx

Sue, lovely. Though my bones can feel the wet cold looking at the photos 😉 ! So glad you got away for a good time in the countryside. As for wp and time on and offline, I’ve been the same. I try and post ‘something’ every week, but my offerings have been paltry of late. Hoping to get re-energized next year. This last quarter has found us working seven days a week trying to finish up the sweet guesthouse for our girls’ visit and more. I’m going to offer it on airbnb in the future, so it will begin paying for itself at some future date, though it might take awhile! At any rate, it will be nice to have a place to put friends and family as well. We like our sanctuary space. Aloha, dear one – and hope you’re enjoying a bit of holiday cheer! ❤

Dear Tina, so sorry, but seems you got pushed into the Spam box by the powers that be. But you are rescued and safe..

My legs were fine afterwards, it was while I was climbing that they felt the strain lol.. Hubbies more so. But we took them one step at a time.. And took lots of rests to admire the view.. Had we known we could have accessed via a road, we would have walked up that way. Coming back via the road was a breeze.. 🙂 haha.. And the Statue of Liberty, wow.. now that is a long way too.. 🙂
      Wishing you a wonderful Christmas..

I enjoyed this so much, Sue! My favourite band is from Skye and I love their work, but I have loved Scottish music since I was a child. As you say, perhaps a past life experience . . . My friend in Tacoma’s grandmother came from Oban and I am sending her a link to this post.

That McCaig’s Tower is so impressive! As is your managing to climb to the tip to see it. I am still pretty out of shape and would have to take it very slowly. But the garden within is worth seeing and so is the view outside.

I know you are busy now, as are most people; no worries on a quick response. Leave it for the New Year, ok? But I will need your email address (see my post today) as I have a couple of questions for you 🙂

Sweet Sue! Look at these magical places you have shared with us! What gorgeous photos and I am imagining myself over there visiting with you and seeing these sights and then enjoying some tea. This will happen. Hehe.
I am so glad you have had the modem turned off: that is a good way to be, and helps to keep the “zombie effect” from happening from spending too much time with technology. You’re setting a good example and I want to experiment with this more once the project is done. Whew…I admit I’m feeling a little pooped having been so busy with it the past year. My meditations have been different this month…I haven’t been able to sit as long, although I still set aside an hour, I’ve been doing writing and other silent, meditative-like activities during that time. I figure that’s okay since I’m the one who invented this project. lol.
In any case, I clicked on the link for the McCaig Tower. What a story! And what a legacy. There’s the human offspring way to leave a legacy and then there’s building a tower! It reminded me of how this morning, I saw a poem a friend wrote. She’s struggling with the fact that she won’t have children (and me…well, I won’t either, but I am actually in a place where I can say it really is for the best) and wrote a lamentation about it. She spoke of how she won’t be able to leave a legacy and I kept thinking that there are so many ways to leave a legacy other than children. This tower is a perfect example. I mean…how many of us know the names of our great-great grandparents? Or our great-great-great grandparents? Or great uncles and aunts? But generations of people will know who McCaig was because of his tower. The fact that he wanted to employ stonemasons is incredible…even though he ultimately wanted statues of himself and his family members – that sort of cracks me up. lol.
When I think about my own legacy, I hope that I can leave behind beautiful works of art and writing that help people, or at least entertain them. Hehe. Perhaps create scholarships or something…
Before I wander from here, I have to say the little bits of snow that fall while I’m on your blog are sweet. I just discovered that they change directions when I move my mouse! Hehe.
Sending you big hugs, thoughts of love and light, and I’ll be in touch. Thank you for this post where I was able to wander with my thoughts and smile at all of it. 🙂

You are so right Cynthia, not many of us know our Ancestry, and what better legacy than to leave works of art or a story.. 🙂
I hope my poems will one day find a place among someones book shelves.. But I have as yet to manifest it into Being..
The snow, yes a delightful additions from WP, who supply it every year if we have our settings to allow it. And I love making a blizzard, especially where the background is black and it stand out even more.. 🙂
I loved you taking a walk with me up that tower Cynthia.. and I am always grateful for the thoughts and smiles you leave me..
