A series of synchronicities has led me to edit and post part of a fictitious story of a vision quest I wrote some years ago now.. The first of these synchronicities were when Nihar and I got into a conversation about writing fiction over at his blog at Makeup & Breakup
The title of one of my chapters that I had been thinking about to post was entitled Vision Quest.. So imagine my surprise to visit not one but two different fellow bloggers who had both posted upon Vision Quests.. The first one being Maria Wind Talker’s Post Spring Equinox pilgrimage.
The Third prompt from the Universe came from Jamie’s post entitled Vision Seed Fishing at the Dark of the Moon which spoke of Vision Quests. So you know how I respond to the Signs the Universe brings to me.. So below is the first part of that writing if you enjoy it I will post subsequent episodes in the near future.
Vision Quest! The Nightmare..
“You need to confront your fears Muna”, Aponi said as again she had come into Muna’s room to calm her cries as another nightmare had broken the silence of sleep.
“I’ve told you what to do, it’s up to you now to go and do it, and ask the Great Spirit for your answers”.
Muna was sat up now in bed hugging her knees, the tear stains now drying upon her cheeks as once again her nightmare terrors had overtaken her.
This time Muna had seen herself in the Forest again, knowing she was being watched with that familiar feeling she always got in her dreams. But this time instead of being able to run, she found herself rooted to the spot. She had watched her feet as she had willed herself to run.. ‘Run’ she had repeated in her head ‘Run’… over and over as she looked over her shoulder to the shadows that crept ever nearer in her dream. But her feet were stuck fast, she had watched them sinking within the earth. Pools of water seeped up around them making a bog, sucking her down she was being engulfed in water as it slowly crept up her calves anchoring her to the spot.
Terrified she was going to drown and trying with all her might to free herself, the harder she struggled the quicker she was sinking. All the time the Shadow from the Woods drew closer and closer as the daylight failed. Colder and colder she became shivering from cold and fear as those strange mists came up from the forest floor behind the trees.
She heard the screech of the Night owl and heard the beat of its wings as it took off from its night perch. Muna’s heart beat faster, as she looked around in all directions as she knew the Night owl had come for her, and there was no escape so she closed her eyes as the owl got closer, she heard another screeching sound so loud it echoed within her head.
Muna found herself sitting bolt upright in her bed her arms flaying around in all directions as if she was defending herself as she fought off the owl of her dreams.
Aponi was now sat as she had so often done in the past when Muna was smaller on the edge of her bed, she understood much, but said little. She had helped Muna understand her dreams and had try to teach her not to fear them, But to embrace them as they held much wisdom if one cared to look deep within them.
But Muna couldn’t shake the fear of the Shadow, even though Muna was now no longer a child but a young woman in her teens. Aponi had told her several weeks ago that she needed to go within to find her own answers and she must go on a Vision Quest and seek the answers to her nightmares. And so once again Aponi spoke to Muna saying.
“Only you can confront your fears Muna for only you give them life”.
