Shining Through

This morning I awoke to rain, but this gave me a great excuse to open my box of paints..

Today I used Acrylics and had no idea what I wanted to paint.. I had an angel in mind to start with, then a I kept looking at the butterfly I painted last weekend.. I started with the swirl of bright yellow and just kept going with the flow, adding more swirls and then I saw in my mind a mandala.. It didn’t turn out how my mind had envisioned it.. But the mandala became the butterfly..

The Trees have been taking their fair share of battering’s here in the UK recently with some very stormy weather so I wanted to honour the trees, who listen so patiently to my whispers..

You can see more of my Tree Art and a poem I wrote about trees on my post My Creative Art~ Trees  The first verse reads

oh mighty brothers that reach up high

Your branches swaying in breeze from sky

Tell me as I sit beneath your shade

What wisdom have you for me today….

Mandala Tree

This is part of Tom’s over at Beyond the Sphere  who set a challenge for April, anyone wishing to take part in producing a post with the theme of ‘Shining Through’ to be found Here ..

I wish you all a beautiful weekend..

Take care all of you.

Love and Blessings

~Sue~

Absolutely beautiful, Sue!!!! I have often wondered how one paints an Angel. The Angel I saw was pure white light. not wings, no face, just white light. I think you were inspired by Angels on this one. But then, all of your work is stunning. I’m looking for rain again too. I have inside work to get done. 🙂

I think maybe you are right dear Marlene.. I had slept well the night before, and had the desire to just paint.. usually I paint in several sittings which last at least a couple of days.. This one just painted itself in a few hours.. And I was pleased with the result. 🙂 I hope you are keeping well.. And will be by later to see how you are doing? xxx

Love your interpretation of the theme, Sue… and an excellent painting! Quite similar yet totally different to the photo I went with for my Shining Through post!
Your pingback didn’t work on my blog for some reason, so I’ve included a link to your post in my April’s Theme post. Thanks for taking part. I love the colours you’ve chosen.

It’s such a strange thing, transience. All life here is brief, in the continuum of what is perceived as time, yet we mourn the passing of those we love. I mourn the trees when they are damaged, as well! Because we live in a subtropical climate, everything grows and grows here. The county has machines that chomp the tree limbs (and often skin the trunks in the process) that are growing beside the roads. It’s hard watching it, as it leaves what it cuts ragged and damaged. But you know, most of these trees just rebound eventually (to be chomped again) – to my amazement. Still, I can’t help but feel this is less necessary than does the government. And let’s not even get into the ubiquitous use of Roundup on the grasses, as well … :*( Cheers, my friend, and hope you are enjoying your weekend! Love!

Yes I am with your feelings totally on the use of ‘Roundup’.. We do not use any pesticides or herbicides in our garden.. And it pains me too to see mature trees being felled when nothing is wrong with them.. Let alone the masses of Rain forests that are being destroyed.. Hope your weekend was a lovely one too.. Mine was restful thank you 🙂 ❤

Interesting account of your painting process, evolving from colour and a thought. Your thoughts on mandala and the tree once again underline the essential oneness of the universe in a world wallowing in divisiveness. The great multitudes, unfortunately, cannot see beyond their nostrils, continuing in mindless greed and unsustainable consumption, in blissful ignorance of ultimate reality. Contributing to oxygenation of planet earth, the tree is our most precious possession. Your painting and the poem on the tree remind me of the morning hymn that used to be sung in school assemblies in the 1960s, which goes as ‘Akhilanda mandalam aniyichorukki, / athinullil ananda deepam koluthi / paramanu poruleelum sphuranamai minnum / parama prakashamey sharanam nee ennum…’ The word ‘mandalam’ in the first line is the same as Sanskrit ‘mandala’, meaning circle. ‘Akhilanda mandalam’ means ‘the entire cosmos’. In translation, the prayer means, ‘the entire cosmos appropriately dressed up / with the lamp of bliss duly lit up / making even the minutest particle sparkle in its brilliance / may I offer my salutation to that Eternal Light…’ Enjoy your Sunday, Sue…

Yes I have to Sigh in agreement dear Raj.. Far too much madness in the world and too much attention focused upon ‘Greed’ Loved that lesson on learning about the Mandala, meaning circle. ‘Akhilanda mandalam’.. We are indeed ALL within a circle… no begining and no end.. And thank you Raj, for your lovely compliments.. I have been over to your blog post.. I need to re-read and digest it fully.. I will be back to comment 🙂 Sunday has been very enjoyable Thank you 🙂

Wonderful words DW. What sacred beings the trees are. I used to just gravitate towards the old timers with the massive trunks, but lately I have been pleased by the energy of the smaller, younger trees. Their energy may not be as wise but it is more alive as it is busy growing older….Great friends to have! Loved your art piece. A tall and purposeful tree joining energy with the sun…Nice 🙂 Hope your weekend was great. Hugs to you….VK ❤

Sometimes I am amazed at all the beauty a rainy day can bring ~ from the obvious green and feeding of nature, but also for us to take time inside and think, ponder and be creative (writing, reading, or in your case painting). And then to see both the painting and poem from you from such a day, makes me just as happy to see rain as it does to see sunshine. Brilliant Sue ~ wishing you a wonderful week ahead.
