To those who attack ‘migrants’ online. Please take a few moments out of your day to really look at this photograph. And rethink.
Here is a father fleeing the war in Syria, crying whilst cradling his children.
Should he stop searching for a place of safety for his young family and take the children back into the war-zone?
What do you think he should do? What would you do in his situation?
Rethink!
I did.. And I wrote a Poem today as what I saw in the links below breaks my heart.
Why are we afraid to share?
How is it we humans forgot to to Care
What would you do to protect your own
Wouldn’t you want to Flee a War zone.

They gave up everything to seek a safe place
What is happening to the Human Race?
That we fear so much to give them a home
Didn’t our Nations escalate their War zone
~~
What will it take to open our hearts
Imagine your Family ripped apart
These people have risked all in life and limb
Yet still we are afraid to let them in.

Why are we afraid to share?
We have to Change and Begin to CARE!

The tragic irony of what we are seeing today is that Western countries interfered in the Middle East for their own reasons and now we are seeing the consequences of that meddling!
Now the people we betrayed and whose world we shattered are now banging on our door asking for help!!! 😦
And Cameron wants to send them back to the Hell WE are responsible for!!! 😦

Heart rending, Sue, and that is an understatement, seeing the helplessness writ all over that fleeing person’s face. Some regions of the world appear to be hell bent on hurtling towards the path of violence and self-destruction. I recall the East Pakistan war in the early 1970s, when millions of refugees surged across the eastern border to India. India had no option but to temporarily accommodate them in refugee camps, till the region attained independence, becoming the country known as Bangladesh. Likewise, in this instance, the UN and member countries must come forward to afford shelter to those helpless people fleeing from war torn regions. The near by countries must temporarily open their borders in humane outreach, no other way.

I agree with you Raj, More could be done but it isn’t, and it is a theme I know which keeps being played out throughout the ages.. War, vitims, and people fleeing across borders to escape.. I often think this is part of a plan to displace people, and cause more havoc and Fear.. The more you learn about how the World Works, the more you question those in Power and how they use it .

It is understandable, that this father wish to live in a better place for his family and we need to help in one or another way. I’m just not sure that this is the right way.
As Europe received many people, who all wish to live in a better place, we have also seen the results of this migration. The racism are growing because there are not jobs enough or money enough for all. It is more expensive to live in Europe than in fx Africa.
Maybe it would be a better idea to help these people in their own countries instead of hunting them away with war. Then we could use these money to help them to a better way of life in a culture they also feel safe to live in.
No matter what they need help.

Yes there is a lot of tension because countries are over stretched with amenities. Here in the UK we have a huge proportion of migrants who come from the EU who seek to better themselves in the UK.. and who can blame them.. Many UK citizens also migrate to other countries seeking the same, to New Zealand, Australia for example.. I do see the problems but its Governments who create these situations.. And the War in the Middle East only added to the instabilities of these nations..
We should also be asking ourselves who sells Arms to these Nations and who profits from them? Sadly we all know Wars are started to make money and build up decaying economies ..
And yes no matter what, they need help I so agree xxx ❤

Oh Sue, this is such a horrible thing. I have been very outspoken about the illegal immigration here in the US. Once a person from Mexico crosses our border they are entitled to free schooling, medical procedures that I can’t receive as a citizen with insurance and even get free housing, etc. But it’s not about the immigrants, it’s about the way my own country treats ME and mine.
Back in 2004 I was living in Arizona, a state with a huge population of illegal immigrants. I was frustrated because I had to pay more money for health insurance for my son because the state was broke. Hospitals were closing because they had been required to give free medical treatment on the promise they would be reimbursed by the federal government, when the government failed to live up to it’s end the hospitals went under. But at the same time I met someone that taught me the problems are governmental and nothing about the people who come here.
This one night I had dropped my son off to an event, I was tired and hungry so stopped at a sub shop to have a sandwich made. The only other person in the shop was a man who spoke broken English and the first thing he said to me was he had something for me. He asked me to wait after he made my sandwich to give me a gift. Shortly, the manager arrived and explained this was his last day of work. He’d crossed the border illegally to earn enough money to give his family a better life. He had earned the amount he decided he needed and now he was returning. To thank the US for giving him this opportunity to help his family he had bought flowers to give to every female that came to the sub shop during his last shift.
We don’t know what situations cause a person to leave their home country and try for a better life. One thing I can tell you is the border is not easy or safe to cross. Many die trying. How many people do you or I know who’s circumstances are so bad they will risk their lives to improve their family’s situation?

I can well see why Lois, and I agree its the fault of Governing bodies and the systems in place.. Here too in the UK Hospitals and Doctors surgeries are overworked and overrun and the NHS is going broke.. Many come to the UK because our NHS is free.. Why wouldn’t you seek free treatment and Good wages, and a better life style.. I too would be wanting to do the best for my family.. But this causes as you rightly say divisions.. Because its not free for we who work in this country for we pay a proportion of what ever we earn into our NHS contributions.. Then those who are not on benefits still have to pay for prescriptions and dentists.. Many struggle to pay rents and buy food. And more and more are turning to food banks as I know you have said before in the USA.. So yes I see why many get angry that those who have never paid into our system get free handouts and often get better treated than our own citizens.. This causes tensions and discriminates against.. Its only going to get worse until systems are changed ..
I loved your story about the illegal immigrant and his last day of work.. What a lovely gesture.. And I agree with you.. These families we do not know what they have gone through just to get to the border.. Those children must be so so traumatised..

Dear Sue, that kindles two responses in my mind. The first is that if Governments only spent a small fraction of their military budgets on assisting other countries to be better homes for their peoples, it would be wonderful.
The second response is that these terrible stories have to be shared far and wide.

That photo is heartbreaking. Most parents want better lives for their children, and we’d do the same if in their shoes. I think many people oppose immigration for the very reason Lois mentioned. Her points are valid…our system needs much work. It’s a sad state of affairs when your government takes from those who’ve put in to give to others….I’m not talking about taxes; I’m referring to the cuts to the elderly and veterans who are struggling to stay afloat.

I agree Sue. World has become cruel. and we have stopped voicing our opinion and taking action to make this world a better place to live.
There couldn’t be a better question in today’s world, it is so profound…where are we so afraid and afraid of whom, our own humankind, not the fury of nature and the wild animal, an irony difficult to fathom. One can see the agony so palpable in the eyes of the innocent children and so much pain in the face of the father, how can we can become blind to such act of barbarism, who ever does it, irrespective of religion, intention and motive, human life are precious and in life what finally matters is the freedom we get and how much we are able to enjoy that freedom, life without freedom is not worth living. We have fight for it and create that space to play and enjoy life with our near and dear ones, and give our children the ground to play and live life without fear.
We shouldn’t be afraid to share and care. sharing and caring is such a vital aspect of our life and living, one need to do and experience to understand its hidden power…nothing can be more powerful than being caring and sharing with mankind.

Sometimes I think Nihar we have become so desensitised to human suffering.. Many watch on TV thinking no more of it than a part being played in a Movie.. But this is not a Film, and there are no happy ever after endings.. These people are risking everything because they have nothing left to risk other than their lives to fight for that Freedom..

Yes, there is a strong disconnect in today’s world, many of us don’t know how to react and what to do when face such situations in life. We keep seeing things happening around us and we see only in TV and many times we are helpless witness, and we empathize and try our level best to do our part but never enough to change the pain inflicted into our society.

To my view the UN has failed miserably, letting these people fleeing their homes in such risky and disorganised and frightful way, UN should have required the nations to pool funding resources and set up proper refugee shelters etc. this way I think people don’t necessarily reject or don’t want to share but they’ve been confronted with this avalanche of needy people whose survival force is frightening…no choice for either side is the way I see it and that’s the part that’s worrying. The UN should know better than this, hopeless and useless really.

I agree with you Ina 100%… The UN should do many things.. but they have failed in their quest of maintaining what they were set up for many times over.. And I am in total agreement about funding..
Monies are not appropriately used and as we know Funds in foreign aid for many countries for various things, I am sure get diverted into Arms and to line many pockets they shouldn’t.. While these poor people and others Like them in Africa are disregarded as casualties of war ..

Sue, your poem is one of the most moving i have ever read. You emphasized exactly the right words: CARING, SHARING, and FEAR. I think it must be a sad day for nearly all migrants when they have to leave their homeland to journey far away, whether the reason is poverty or persecution or mortal danger. I think, for example, of my Irish ancestors who fled Ireland during the potato famine.
The many comments made by your readers are also caring and thought-provoking. A few of them raise very tough questions that go to the heart of humanity and civilization.
The truth is that enormous numbers of people — I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say millions and millions — are moving about, both within large countries such as China, and across borders all over the world. Of course the war crimes and other hardships that force people to leave their homes are at least as deplorable as the uncaring, and sometimes violent and hateful, ways in which migrants are treated on their long, dangerous journeys, and finally at their destinations.
I think that the population of the Earth is so great now, and the environmental and economic problems so grave and widespread, that huge, ongoing migrations have a serious destabilizing effect in many places, giving rise to even more suffering. It’s so serious that varying degrees of political and economic collapse are happening in some places, and threatening in many more, including even the U.S. and U.K.
It is particularly heart-rending when civilized countries feel so endangered that they feel they have to decide which people are refugees deserving help and asylum, and which people are merely economic migrants looking for a better way of life.
I do not have a clue, myself, what the answers may be. I think only God could know the answers, and possibly be capable of resolving such intractable conditions; and I’m not sure I believe in God, at least not in an all-knowing and all-powerful God.
I also find it impossible to judge responsible people — I mean government officials and service organizations such as hospitals — that find themselves in a position that they believe they are forced to make impossible decisions in places that become dangerously overcrowded, or where shortages of food, water, and other resources are severe.
The catastrophe and chaos and suffering make me just want to sit down and cry.

Thank you John for that in-depth heartfelt comment.. Yes I too could sit and have often shed tears.. I don’t know the answers either.. The world is shifting now so swiftly as people seek a better life, and are no longer content to be dictated too.. I suppose if you look back along in the history books you can see each age has seen its share of persecution,And horrors through out the world. each has transcended so that we hopefully can share new freedoms in equality and justice.
You would think after all of this time the Human race would have learnt to live together, but then you look at those government officials and I especially here in the UK shake my head sometimes in disbelief how outdated our thinking is.. We have laws here that date way way back, while Judged wear wigs.. Oh I could go on and on and still the world is geared for Large corporations to profit, while the gap gets ever wider with the poverty lines..
Until we alter our whole way of being such as the systems we have in place that still discriminate and are unjust.. People are seeking out better countries to live in, and who can blame them. And if my country were at war, I too would be seeking a safe haven to live in safety who wouldn’t?
Yes here in the UK we have many migrant workers who are coming to the UK.. Our Own town now is heaving yet shops are closing and are boarded up. As the Big Supermarkets have had their impact upon the small business’s. There are some wonderful people, hard working who have come to better themselves from the EU countries.. And that’s good.. But the system as Lois said on her comment is not geared to fairness for those whose country this is.. And many then find themselves discriminated against.. And this in itself is causing problems and resentments from many..
Our Hospitals are overworked and running out of monies, You have to have structures in place or the whole thing collapses.. I see all of that..
I can only see things getting worse with much more chaos.. And yes this makes me want to cry.. For these people fleeing Warzones just want to find somewhere safe to work and live and bring up their families..

Fear was written in to our software for self preservation but unfortunately we have taken it too far with some countries allowing all to carry arms and it seems we have to shoot when we can’t get what we want sitting round a table and talking, that is if we can ever get to that table! The picture breaks my heart and I wonder where the human race is going. Your words are brief but very much to the point dear Sue. You see, in this tiny island I wonder if we have room for any more and think we would be better off on our own but regardless of dictates from Brussels I believe that we should begin to find again that latent compassion which hides within us all if we only had the courage to find it, show it without fear and help as many as we can to find a home of peace. David I know you believe in Karma.. 🙂 I believe too Countries hold Karma.. Great Britain.. was once the ruler of an Empire.. It got that Empire via War.. Overtaking other countries, dictating and ruling colonies far and wide around the world.. Is it not then fitting that this country should then itself be ‘Taken over’ by other countries citizens 🙂 Its quite ironic when you think about it.. 🙂 And those in power have found other ways and means to break a country without going to war?? 🙂 who sit in their plush offices making Laws :-D…

You have evoked a tangible outpouring of compassion in your readers here Sue, and which I hope is a reflection of a wider majority. Sadly, the influences of politicians on the right like Farage, and media outlets such as The Daily Mail, have sought to project the idea here in Britain that there simply is no scope to help these wretched and intrepid people. I saw that image in The Guardian, and read how the photographer instantly became emotionally involved in his subjects’ plight. H ❤

As been said, ‘war is hell’. Why would anyone, anyone and especially those who have loved ones to care for want to be captured in some hell that ‘others’ have created for some crazy odd reason. It has never been more true and in our face especially when it appears ‘live’ on CNN.

This is a topic that could be the beginning of endless conversations. As the child of a German mother and a GI father, I’ve heard more than my share of stories about atrocities. They will never end. My dad said that if the government needs money, they start a war. It’s profitable for them. They do this subversively. But they do it! Men have been unkind to each other since the beginning and I don’t see it changing. You help with your wonderful poems by bringing a light to it and raising our vibration just a little. If enough of us can hold it, maybe we can at least slow this kind of thing down. My heart breaks for that man and so many others. Lois had a point as well. I’ve seen how things work for her and others like her here. We have so much that needs repair right here and our country meddles everywhere else stirring the pot for their own interests. That 1% that holds the purse strings. But I shall leave it at that and pray again for peace for everyone. Keep lifting us up. We need it.

Yes I agree Marlene.. And its true what you Dad said about starting wars.. Its how they boost dying economies Arms mean profit and destruction means rebuilding and regenerating.. Regardless of the suffering.. I am with you all the way in holding our vibration. And this is the reason I posted.. We need compassion, we need Love, We need people to once again Care again for each other instead of being indifferent and The I’m Al-right Jack attitude.. Which many think its not their problem..

Yes War is Hell, and thankfully my generation here has not experienced War conditions, unlike many places around our world right now and in the recent past. And yes If bombs were dropping and snipers in the street.. No water or sanitation, homes crumbled and destroyed, no food.. We would all flee to places we thought we would be given refuge..

A heartfelt post, Sue, and an important one I feel. There are so many harrowing difficulties on this planet, it is hard realize that they are nurtured by the common roots of fear, distrust, and judgment. When people around the world can live safely in their own lands, with access to shelter and provision, opportunity, and the freedom to express themselves– only then will we be beyond this madness. I think somehow these moments that touch us and result in the opening of our hearts can lead to this day. Regardless of immediate policy responses… something deeper opens and eventually takes root and becomes reality.

And I often quote the lines ” Its often darkest before the Dawn Light”… And our compassion being generated now is helping alter the vibrations needed to facilitate change.. As the old karmic energy is being played out in their final cleansing. We understand on a deeper level..

One cannot feel without compassion looking at that picture Sue, the subject of refugees has caused much divisiveness in many country’s, this has come about with the rise of terrorism, people are scared of refugees, and rightly so when one is not sure of the true nature of the refugee, some boat people here are infiltrated by people whose aim is to spread anarchy, and an Ideology that is against all humanity.
Sadly in this day and age of prolific wars, we have trouble believing in refugees.
But still we must still find compassion through our common concern for our fellow man.

Yes I know Ian, much distrust of many because of the few.. And the fear generated which has been escalated in Governments interfering in other countries which have made the lives of Many so much worse than they were before.. Because its allowed the fractions which were under control to gain power..
If we can not find compassion what hope is there for the world? .. because this is not going to go away… Its happening ALL over as people flee Syria and Afghanistan.. We only see them arrive.. we do not see the Horrors they have had to endure that drove them to risk life and limb.. This is the knock on affect from the War we participated in..

Sue, your words make her heart cry. It is indeed very sad and I don’t know how we as a collective humanity can rise above this. I wrote a poem that I never shared on my blog back when hundreds of immigrants drowned at sea…all they are doing is looking for safety…the photo you shared says it all. I am going to post my poem here…I hope you don’t mind…I think it belongs here
They flee their lives
All that is known is worse
Than all they think might be
The fear of staying where they are
Is greater than the fear of the unknown
So they set off on seas that are angry
On boats not fit for the voyage
Lost souls at sea
I can’t imagine what they see
As they travel from the hell that they know
to the depths of the ocean floor

Your words bring to life the journey so many souls must face as they risk all having paid perhaps all of their savings to unscrupulous people who make a profit too out of suffering.. Because their lives are so awful..
Today I watched a news item.. I try not to watch the news as it upsets, but it was about the Hungarian borders are now inundated with immigrants from Syria and Afghanistan.. A Female Dr was interviewed who had also made the journey.. She said that Death was everywhere in Syria… and to risk death in a boat was nothing.. One can not imagine the horrors these families have faced as they made their way out of their country to find refuge..

Thank you so much, Sue…for everything! I only post what feels right in my heart on any given day. I wrote that poem a while back and I would see it and think that it was important, but it never was the right time on my blog and that is because it matched your energy and it needed your words and caring heart. I didn’t think you would mind…happily I was correct 🙂 The news is so sad…but Sue…I do believe that the light workers of the world will make a difference…I have to believe this!! Much love to you ♡♡♡

The sheer numbers can be intimidating and it can spark a sense of invasion and take over. Especially when you hear about the weapons some are using to force lorry drivers at the tunnel to take them. We have nowhere to house them our own are on the streets. Jobs are not easy to come by and our schools and health service are struggling to cope. If they come here what will become of them? Our streets are not paved with gold as many think. They become angry when they see the reality of this country and many turn to crime. There are no easy answers and we are a very small country with limited resources and a limit to what we can offer.

I agree Wolfie our streets are not paved in gold.. but the scale now of these immigrants is now escalating beyond anyone’s expectations right the way throughout Europe. And new systems need to be put into place by all countries to cope.. So that these people can be processed..
There is so much waste in the monies The UK government’s total overseas aid budget last year was £12bn
And so much waste.. Over £14,000 spent on creating a Game show for Ethiopian TV the aim to teach young people there about British Values??

If they diverted some of this kind of wasted funding towards setting up some refuge camps so that people can be processed properly.. It isn’t going to get any better as I see it only worse.

It is Dalo.. I often put myself in someone else’s shoes, perhaps too often.. But the world is changing so rapidly now.. And these issues are not going to go away or be swept under the fences of some other countries borders.. We ALL of us have to reach deeper inside and find our humanitarian side to help each other..
Despite those minor few who are set to create fear by their hatred.. We do not see the whys of how these individuals dealing in terror have come to their heartless actions that drive so many to flea their own nations risking everything to do so.
I along with many more do not know the answers.. But we can no longer keep ignoring these People.. Its only going to get worse if systems are not put in place to help them.

Yeah, I don’t know what’s with people, I really do not. I’m a fan of opening ALL borders to ALL countries. Let the dust settle where it may, not everybody wants to live in the places one prefers. We need to get over feeling so special – this comparing and excluding has gotten this world in a boatload of trouble. Kindness and compassion are the only way. After all, we are all One, truly. The World is changing now Bela so rapidly.. And in my own opinion within the future we will see Mass Exodus of peoples seeking sanctuary and a better way of life for their families.. Its heart rending to think of the appalling situations many of these families have fled from.. Walking for thousands of miles just to reach a shore line.. Not to mention the atrocities they are running away from.
Loved your sentence “We need to get over feeling so special” I am in total agreement.. Instead we should be so thankful our own lives are not in such turmoil..

Yes, I have quite often reminded others in the heat of a rant that we are all immigrants from somewhere (save the Aboriginals, what few remain). And trusting that this blending of humans has the potential to unite instead of divide us, though we are in a process of shake-down right now, seems the choice we have the opportunity to embrace. I am so glad that for once the comments on a blog are almost 100% positive (i didn’t read every word but didn’t see anything negative). But of course your space is usually positive, Sue, and thank goodness.
I’m fascinated by the comments, but one thought i didn’t see expressed which seems very pertinent to North Americans, concerns our own history. Other than the aboriginals, aren’t we all refugees, immigrants here? So we run away, and then chauvinistically slam the door on those who follow? i don’t think so. It’s bad enough what we’ve done to the original occupants of this continent, without compounding that sin. This was easier when the new world was a big empty space, and of course when America was the rich refuge paved with gold (or so it seemed to those far away). Those days may be gone.
But it’s not a matter of one family but thousands upon thousands of families uprooted by conflicts. Will we do the right thing? i hope so.

Dear friend.. thank you for this thought provoking comment.. I agree with .. And Did not ‘Great Britain’ raid so many other nations in its gathering of its ‘Empire’ I feel the immigration into the UK now is only Karma back for the times we overran other countries and pressed ourselves upon them ..
The Native Americans, The Aboriginals both peoples lands taken as settlers took from them to claim of their own.. The Native American Indians knew the land belongs to no one.. but were the caretakers of it.. The streams and rivers of which are now polluted..
Our meddling in other’s lands are the results now of such displacements of people.. Iraq and Afghanistan.. Our Nations are responsible for setting off a chain of events which have led us to this point in time now..
I hope also that we all of us stop pointing figures and open hearts to do the right thing.. Blessings and so good to see you here 🙂

This one hits home with me. The other night we were caught in a flash flood in Sioux Falls, SD. While we had our own troubles of the event, I found out the police evacuated all customers from a local mall. Two teen age girls were left stranded out in the bitter cold downpour with no where to go to. A woman walked up to them and said, “I would offer for you to get in my car but you are strangers, I’ll give you a blanket to cover yourself”. Mind you this was a downpour like no other, three seconds out there and I was soaked head to toe. I hope the girls did catch pneumonia.
