People Power~ Making a Difference

Following up from my last post The Future~ Standing as One with Nature today a success story from Germany over stopping some open cast mining for fossil fuels.. All be it will be temporary.

While I admire Germany for a program for phasing out its nuclear plants after the Fukushima nuclear disaster by 2022. Germany has a good record for renewable energy and is investing more in solar and wind .  But during this transition they are continuing cutting great swathes of land in open mining for fossil fuels using Brown Coal the dirtiest form of fossil fuel,.. More can be found here about how Brown coal wins a reprieve in Germany’s transition to a green future

In the mean time well done to this group of people who led the way in showing some People Power in Action saying enough is enough..

In my Email box this morning came this Newsletter

Dear friends,

Today over 1,500 people woke up with reflections of a momentous and emotional weekend. On Saturday over a thousand people — with the support of hundreds more — entered the Garweiler open-pit coal mine in Germany and stopped the work of the world’s biggest diggers in their tracks.

You can watch the success here.

It wasn’t an easy task, but we can be proud of the courage of activists, organisers and support structures that made this happen. The swell of solidarity that came in from around the world showed us that we are not in this fight alone and meant a lot to the people who participated.

Over the coming weeks there will be more reflections, photos and stories coming in, and we hope we can count on you to share the story so the world knows what our movement is building.

We said “Ende Gelände – Here and No Further!” and we succeeded.

Thanks so much for your support – it means a lot to many people,

Emma on behalf 350.org

I hope you will feel free to share.

Love and Blessings

~Sue~

Good news. Thanks for sharing, Sue. And I love that they used a line that’s prominent in Star Trek: No Contact (the movie)! 🙂 xoxo Love, Jamie

Thank you for sharing that. Trying to find a way go get our fuel needs and still preserve our precious planet is a hard task. There is always big money and jobs that keep us from winning the long battle.

Yes its difficult and yet I believe there are very good alternatives.. But it takes time for old ways of thinking and Big corporations to let go of their profit margins.. that allow us cheaper renewable alternatives.. They have to think of ways of making Money.. even from the wind and the Sun and water.. 🙂 Here it is maddening as they pay the owners of Wind turbines not to turn.. as the grid system is not yet created to cope with the energy which is being produced.. How stupid is that?

That would go on my Pinterest board under the category of really dumb stuff. I have one for that.:) I think the “All That Is” gets that so many are trying so hard. I’m counting on our loving vibrations for the earth are enough to counterbalance those that are disconnected and don’t understand how vital it is. We just have to keep loving Mother Earth with all we have.

We have been beating your drum on the climate issue for quite some time now, Sue. What stands out is the double standard of, not just Germany, but many of the developed countries when it comes to reduction of emissions. There are many countries with high reserves of coal and if all of them expediently continue with mining and unrestrained usage of fossil fuels for electricity generation, achieving targeted reduction in CO2 emissions will remain a pipe dream, with disastrous consequences. In Johannesburg for over six weeks now, I am feeling the difference in the quality of air between here and the highly polluted air in many of the Indian cities. I am really enjoying the privilege of breathing clean air, as of now, more than anything else. Unless something is done to reverse the situation, the end is not too far away. May there be more activism of the Garweiler kind, together with more aggressive campaign of planting trees…best wishes… Raj.

Thank you Raj.. Yes planting trees is a good step, we all should be thinking of how many trees are cut down each day in the rainforests.. And how many hundreds of years it took them to grow to maturity to oxygenate this planet. And how long it takes a sapling to grow to maturity…. I know when I visited Austria for a holiday how much pure and cleaner the air felt to breathe in the mountains.. It was like you could feel the air deeper in your lungs.. I am lucky I do not live in a built up city, but on the outskirts of a town.. only 5 mins walking distance from a country walk.. So I am blessed in more ways than one..
I agree with you there are dual standards of housekeeping in the CO2 emissions.. and you have to ask why that is.. When smaller countries are sanctioned and yet those who are making up the rules continue ..
We are seeing Changes being made right before our eyes.. And I feel a ‘shift’ in awareness will also take many by surprise..
Thank you dear Raj for always your thoughtful and most wonderful responses to my posts.. I hope your new Grandson and family are doing well my friend..
Blessings your way to you and yours..
      Sue

I know, right? If we could live in peace and unity, how much more wonderful would this world be? We’d all be happier, less stressed, etc…I think it comes down to genuinely loving other people–even those who have different opinions and beliefs that we do..Knowing that that’s their prerogative and yet it doesn’t have to be a division. That and doing what we can to keep the world a safe (in all ways) place to live. . .

I agree with you Elizabeth.. We are all of us Unique and if we all thought the same life would be very dull. But seeing each has an opinion and is acceptant of others views.. But working towards the aim of Wholeness, and co-operation.. Instead so many today are stuck in the possessive ways of what’s mine is mine and will not share or reach out and give of themselves and serve others.. We still have a long way to go.. But it is good to see people coming together in Unity for the good of the planet.. ❤

World wide problem Sue, that is also occurring here in Australia.
Political moves are afoot to stop people from objecting to large company explorations, through Courts of Law.

It is a great feeling to know that there are such strong groups (and people) out there who are putting pressure on politician and businesses to become more creative in finding a resolution to alternative energy sources…this post is fantastic in bringing this out.

There are I am sure much cleaner ways of producing energy, and yet we are stuck in the mindset of our old ways.. renewable energy is available. But everything has to have a price tag and be profitable for the Big Corporate Businesses who need to make huge profits.. We looked into solar panels for our roof.. But it was far too expensive.. If they really wanted to solve energy shortages, we should all be able to buy solar panels at reasonable prices and install in our own homes to produce electricity ..

It is only by bringing awareness that changes are made, thankfully this Action didn’t end in violent confrontation which many do.
Many thanks again Dalo, for your most welcome visit and comments 🙂 Sue

I lived for a while in Germany because I speak German and I have MA degree in German language and literature. They really care about nature and its preservation. In some villages just 20 years ago they still used to wash street in the front of house. Cleanliness there is breathtaking and some villages look like in a fairy tale with all flowers in windowsills, etc.

I do not think their chancellor Angela Merkel was too pleased when she got the figures for their countries CO2 emissions they had risen..
