While you and I crave for cleaner oceans, less pollution, as we speak our speak. Others are walking their talk, and doing something to raise awareness in defence of our Environment in one of the last untouched places on Earth by man.. The Arctic…. I hope that if you are already an Avaaz member you will have already clicked and signed the petition, but if you are new to the organisation, then please feel free to read and pass on and I hope you will add your voice to that of others who want to stop this injustice for these Greenpeace warriors who want a greener peaceful world.
This only came in my email box today and already 594,675, have signed..
Thank you for reading, and I am still in catch-up mode so trying to work my way down my email lists..
Blessing to you all for a Peaceful Weekend Sue
Update
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear friends,
Ana Paula and 29 of her Greenpeace crewmates are trapped in a Russian jail for trying to save the Arctic from oil drilling. But our community could set them free if we help Greenpeace build a massive global outcry targeting Russia’s biggest global partners. Let’s reach 1 million to free the Arctic 30 — sign now by clicking below:
Ana Paula is a 31-year old from Brazil who wanted to peacefully protest Russia’s plans to drill the Arctic. Now she, along with her 29 crewmates from the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise, is locked in a Russian jail with no release in sight. But we can throw her and the rest of her crew a lifeline.
The Greenpeace staff, some in solitary confinement, are now facing fifteen years in prison on trumped up charges of piracy. Their crime? Hanging a banner on a Russian oil rig to protest dangerous deepwater drilling in one of the earth’s most beautiful and fragile places. Many western governments have already spoken out, but now Ana Paula and Greenpeace are asking the Avaaz community to help build a truly global outcry.
Together we can call on some of Russia’s strongest trade and political partners — Brazil, India, South Africa and the EU — to call for the release of the Arctic 30. Let’s reach 1 million to free Ana Paula and her friends. Once we hit that mark, Avaaz will project their faces in key public places to keep this story at the top of the news:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/free_the_arctic_30_loc/?blGazab&v=30393
This is what Ana Paula’s sister said about her: “In many ways, my sister is a typical Brazilian — talkative, friendly, and full of life. But she’s also simply extraordinary, passionate about nature since she was little, and never hesitating to stand up for it even at great personal risk.”
Now Ana Paula and her crewmates could lose 15 years of their lives, all for trying to hang a banner on a Gazprom oil rig, the first of its kind in the Arctic. This is an aggressive backlash against defenders of our environment — stopping oil drilling in the Arctic is about protecting the last great wilderness on earth, where oil spills are almost impossible to clean up.
Greenpeace has hired great lawyers who point out that the 30 were arrested in international waters, making Russia the one violating the international Law of the Sea. But being on the right side of the law may not be enough to regain their freedom, and their dreadful fate may be sealed soon unless the international community lets Russia know that this is a scandal that’s not going to go away.
Avaaz has a particularly powerful voice in many of these countries with huge memberships — 5 million in Brazil alone! If we all weigh in now and build a one million strong petition, Avaazers in Brazil, South Africa, India, and the EU can ramp up the pressure. Sign now to help build 1 million people to help free the Arctic 30:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/free_the_arctic_30_loc/?blGazab&v=30393
These Arctic 30 were brave enough to confront the oil industry in one of the last untouched places on earth. They are being silenced and intimidated by the oil industry for their bravery. Our community has stood strong for campaigners across the world — now let’s free these 30.
With hope and determination,
Jamie, Alex, Emma, Lisa, Ricken, Marie, Julien, Diego and the rest of the Avaaz team
No me either Lois, It matters not who is in power, I bet they all start off with good intentions as they go into politics to think they can help change the systems.. But the systems are not those in power, but those who run them behind the scenes…. It makes me so cross knowing that Energy companies hold us to ransom, with Higher Energy costs and our Governments know full well what is happening, while the little old ladies on a single pension can die of hypothermia because they can not afford to pay their heating costs… A disgrace!.. These are my frustrations… But nothing will change while those Big Corporations call the shots!
Exactly, I think often of John F. Kennedy who was president of the US in the early 60s. He made known he was going to change the way things were being done and was assassinated before he could implement the changes and clean up the government.
We do have one program here that is helpful for winter, if you heat is about to be shut of or already was they will pay to turn it back on for you if you are low income. I don’t know the exact dates but between November and April if you fall behind the utility companies are not allowed to turn your heat off. Although if you can’t get things caught up your heat will be turned off come April.
Done! Signed the petition!
When I first started reading the article / email ..I couldn’t help but wondering, Why. There must be a better way. Because sometimes peaceful isn’t really peaceful and sometimes peaceful needs to a little more creative and a little less self righteous. But then a thought came to me and that was…each has his part to play. There will be those that heal the world by healing themselves, there will be those that heal the world by sending out the vibrations needed, those that will heal one person at a time, those who will heal many at a time and then there are those who will DO what is needed. So, in the end…every thing is okay 🙂
Greenpeace, France was disgraced when they bombed Greenpeace in Auckland.
I do not usually give support for protests but I signed my support for this one. Testing bombe in paradise and risking an oil spillage in the Artic, just being their causes damage. This is a real test for me too stay calm and serene, actually for everyone to stay cool. Surely these people with no respect for nature realise in time Mother nature will retaliate.
Life will go on but as Spock of the Star ship Enterprise said.” There is life Captain Kirk but not as we know it.”
You and I understand others have to be forgiven for their ignorance.
We can only teach by example and mother Nature will teach in her way.
May the force be with you. I am a bit of a fan of some science-fiction.
Hi Sue, I’ve signed the petition. Signed the petition. It’s sick and wrong what is going on with all this drilling.
Sigh. I hold out hope that we’ll learn.
Thank you, too, for your sweet words and comments over at my blog. Oh, you just make me breathe a breath of fresh air. 🙂 I just love seeing your beautiful words.
Alas, I’ve been so busy with school, my poor blog is gathering dust bunnies. I’ll keep it going – I hope – it’s just the last few weeks have been so busy with conferences and trainings on top of mid-terms and papers.
I do miss my photography walks and I finished an art project – when I have it all put together, I hope to blog about it. 🙂
Many hugs. Peace. Hope, and Love.
Thank you for signing I do appreciate everyone who has given their support to this injustice.. Like you it makes you so sad to think how we are destroying our own environment, when we know especially that their are more eco friendly ways to cleaner fuels… But those at the top of the tree hang on.. But nature will ultimately shake them up and we will then ALL have to rethink how we Live..
Much love and Peace in return dear Cyndi..
Sending you a Healing Hug over the airwaves Ruth, and hope you will soon be feeling better.. Please don’t worry about catching up, I know how time consuming catching up is.. And when you are far from 100% that’s the last thing that you should be worrying about.. So I fully understand,..
I thought you were not well, as I had been sending out via the web of thought to you.
Yes, Horrifying is a good way to describe the possible destructive impact this could have on the environment of the Arctic.. But Profit and Greed opens many doors as those back handers turn many a blind eye to the consequences for the future of Earth.. I little like what is happening with the Nuclear Power stations at the moment in Hinckley
Hi Sue,
I just became a member and signed the petition. Thank you for pointing me to this great initiative.
To be frank, your opening line, ” While you and I crave for cleaner oceans, less pollution, as we speak our speak. Others are walking their talk, and doing something…….” hurt. It hurt because is the truth. Most of us merely rave and rant and believe we have done our bit. We somehow lull ourselves to believe that based on what we are saying, someone, somewhere would have the good sense to do the right thing. If only the world was such a fair and rational place!
Reading about Ana Paula only drove home the point how much more empowered and evolved she is compared to someone like me. As I salute her, I can only agonise within……
In distress…….. Shakti
Yes, I agree Sabina, a Nation which thinks itself great often fails on basic principles of respecting others rights and rules not with justice but with to tools to keep Fearful those whom they wish to control… Like their problems with Gay Rights, and Racism… But the world is waking up…. And when it does then we will all have to make new rules to live by in a free world.. Where we need to respect each other and all life in Nature… Thank you dear Sabina, for taking the time to comment..
Loved having you back..
