Its not often I share an email with you all but today is an exception.
I am a member of AVAAZ.Org “Avaaz—meaning "voice" in several European, Middle Eastern and Asian languages—launched in 2007 with a simple democratic mission: organize citizens of all nations to close the gap between the world we have and the world most people everywhere want.”
I would ask you all to look into these facts and judge for yourselves. I have spoken upon this subject before in 2009 in my post Corn Dance~Seeds of Truth
Growing our own food and collecting their seeds is an important part of our sustainability and we all need to be aware how important Self-Sufficiency is now becoming. We need to take a good look at how our world is being controlled and manipulated from monopoly corporations. Please as I always say, don’t believe one word I say, Go find out for yourselves! and look up the herbicides Round Up which are being used too!
Below is the email, Please feel free to forward this post and the link to Sign the petition which is highlighted in Red below.. Many thanks Sue

Dear Avaazers,
It’s unbelievable, but Monsanto and Co. are at it again. These profit-hungry biotech companies have found a way to exclusively ‘own’ something that freely belongs to us all — our food! They’re trying to patent away our everyday vegetables and fruits like cucumber, broccoli and melons, forcing growers to pay them and risk being sued if they don’t.
But we can stop them from buying up Mother Earth. Companies like Monsanto have found loopholes in European law to get away with this, so we just need to close them shut before they set a dangerous global precedent. And to do that, we need key countries like Germany, France and the Netherlands — where opposition is already growing — to call for a vote to stop Monsanto’s plans. The Avaaz community has shifted governments before, and we can do it again.
Many farmers and politicians are already against this — we just need to bring in people power to pressure these countries to keep Monsanto’s hands off our food.
Sign now and share with everyone to help build the biggest food defence call ever:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/monsanto_vs_mother_earth_don/?blGazab&v=23900
Once a patent exists in one country, trade agreements and negotiations often push other countries to honour it as well. That’s why these food patents change everything about how our food chain works: for thousands of years, farmers could choose which seeds they’d use without worrying about getting sued for violating intellectual property rights. But now, companies launch expensive legal campaigns to buy patents on conventional plants and force farmers to pay exorbitant royalty fees. Monsanto and Co. claim that patents drive innovation — but in fact they create a corporate monopoly of our food.
But luckily, the European Patent Office is controlled by 38 member states who, with one vote, can end dangerous patents on food that is bred using conventional methods. Even the European Parliament has issued a statement objecting to these kinds of destructive patents. Now, a massive wave of public outcry could push them to ban the patenting of our everyday food for good.
The situation is dire already — Monsanto alone owns 36% of all tomato, 32% of sweet pepper and 49% of cauliflower varieties registered in the EU. With a simple regulatory change, we could protect our food, our farmers and our planet from corporate control — and it’s up to us to make it happen:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/monsanto_vs_mother_earth_don/?blGazab&v=23900
The Avaaz community has never been afraid to stand up to corporate capture of our institutions, from pushing back the Rupert Murdoch mafia, to helping ensure that telecoms keep their hands off our Internet. Now it’s time to defend our food supply from this corporate takeover.
With hope and determination,
Jeremy, Michelle, Oli, Dalia, Pascal, Ricken, Diego and the whole Avaaz team

This is so idiotic. I have to wonder if no one in the governments of any country have ever seen a plant in real life or ever went to class to know how they grow naturally. It is apparent they all have no reading comprehension or secondary problem solving skills to see no fallout from such utterly ridiculous proposals.

Yes Pen, it sure does, but this has been going on for years now, and these corporations have got so used to getting away with it, they think they Own the World.. But we have to put a spanner in their monopolies which are destroying the Food industry,Plants, Agriculture Land, Bees, and lets not forget our health which is suffering as a result…. Thank you Ruth, people are unaware at the damage being done by ingesting foods which have been contaminated, Too many additives already added at a later date let alone the chemicals which are put in the ground so that these GMO crops can grow… Look up Round-Up and see the damage with their manufactured herbicide. Here is a quick One minute Video to watch!

Hi Sue, thanks so much for the video. It is so true! The chain of food production means that we are all getting these harmful things into us. Also, with the soil so de-mineralised even our lovely vegetables do not have the nutrients they once did. It really is a huge problem and many seem to be wandering along blind to it all. On a more uplifting note, we have some spring colour here, Sue, and from my window I see crocuses and daffs at last. Take care dear friend and keep spreading the word xx

Crazy that this though has even entered every day language, even up for discussion, in the first instance.
No one can own something that was never anyones to begin with……like land…..first it was all there free…..just there……then suddenly someone some day goes…..owwww I own that now…….! Bit of a simple example….and guess much more complex…..but the idea of any form of patent restricting foods is crazy…..and its rubbish about innovation……as it will happen anyway these companys will always want to improve yeilds, offer a better product than others….to capture more of the market and a higher price…..this is pure and simple….Greed an easy way to make more money from people that can ill afford to live as it is!!!!
Crazy Crazy times!

Yes Duma, this is crazy, But it goes on and its been happening for decades now.. But as more and more awaken to what is REALLY GOING ON in this world many now are starting to stand up and object and try to stop further damage.. I say try, as these Big corporations have BIG agenders and Goals… And the Human casualties are none-plus in their profiteering world of greed and control….. You just have to see those other Food industries here in the UK recently Duma, using horse meat instead of Beef. No one cares about Health, just profits….

Yes Joe, it is a great Tragedy that this is happening, And I doubt the damage already done can ever be undone. It is not our generation Joe who will suffer, but our children’s children, who are digesting and retaining the toxins in their systems from the herbicides and the GMO alterations which if we just take Corn for example is being fed to the animal food chain..
Thank you for adding your own thoughts It means a lot, thank you ~Sue

When i was a child my dad would dry out seeds from the existing plant and then use them the following year whenever he could. GM foods started during WWII and no moaned about potato crops which yielded more per plant and was more resistant to pests and disease. I agree that one company shouldn’t have all the control but sometimes GM foods are necessary to feed a world.

Yes we come from a long line of Grow your own and save your own seeds Beverley.. But we throw more food away each year that would very easily feed the word.. And I respect that on the surface in the beginning GM may have seemed to be a perfect solution.. However you do need to really Look into Monsanto and the whole concept of GMO Plus all the other additives which are put into our food such as Aspartame for one…And once you have done your research I am sure you will then begin to question ARE GM foods necessary? Patented Seeds means the Monopoly of Food..

Monsanto are not faceless, they are a group of sad, misguided, unoriginal, selfish, money oriented people. Their ethos is about to become extinct, unless they do a sensible turnaround and support all the agro-forestry research groups around the world, doing work, the result of which will be freely available. Monsanto do not realise there is profit in free sharing; they are too stupid to work that out. This is the way the future Earth will work: cooperatively.

This issue has been around for so long – they keep trying to patent life – after, of course, they have messed with it.
I’m saddened to see this is still a battle line to be held – I first became aware of this issue in 2006 and it was going on long before that – as the importance of this issue has spread throughout mainstream media and documentaries, I had hoped it would fade away – clear on the point that no one is in favor of this except those who plan to profit from it –
Unfortunately, looks like I need to go and re-add my name to the latest round of petitions, etc.
