Christmas Present!

Christmas is looming as we in the material world will go searching for our material things to give as presents to loved ones and friends..

And perhaps we may moan as inflation and the ’Credit Crunch’ takes its toll on our bank balances..

We perhaps will do as my aged Aunt has done this year who said she can’t afford anything, as she is worried about her fuel bills and can’t get out to buy things, so please she said don’t buy me anything because “I’ve ‘Cancelled  Christmas!!”…..

I wonder how many Old people are struggling just to keep warm this Christmas.

And Children in our material world get more demanding of parents. Each year families get into debt to provide what their darling children desire for Christmas, buying presents for family and friends that they think they may want, but which may then sit in a cupboard not seeing the light of day until the following Christmas!  

Christmas Past!

I remember when my own Son was a small boy we hadn’t much that year as my hubby had found himself unemployed for a time as his place of work closed.. So I stayed up late at night for several nights and made my Son a Fort, and a Dolls house for my daughter

 I made them from cardboard boxes cut and pasted brick wall paper to the outsides, The Fort I made moats, turrets and ladders, a gate with drawbridge, platforms and emblems with shields as a crest.. Flags, the works..  I bought I bag of plastic soldiers from Woollies, and hey-presto!

The Dolls House I made for my daughter in the same fashion with curtains, stairs, bedrooms and furniture out of matchboxes. Her doll was one she already had, but I made lots more different clothes for it..

And do you know… they spent hours playing with them and I can honestly say it is the one Christmas they both talk about today, as they now they have homes of their own.

The Spirit of Christmas comes from caring, of not just giving the material, But giving of ourselves, giving and showing Love… 

Christmas Future!

Nothing brought home to me more today than receiving my newsletter from Save the Children charity, which is one of the charities I support, the others I support are on my guestbook.. Just what sort of a world are we creating for our Children?

Horror stories around the world concerning children, have been in our news recently, none more so than baby P..

 Now as the crisis in the Congo has forced 300,000 people to flee their homes, half of whom are children.. Our T.V shows the children who have witnessed such horrors and whose faces are full of sadness and no hope. And yet these children are still striving to go to school and learn to get themselves out of the situation they are in.. But now have no where left to run.

  Charities are working their socks off, and many aid workers are also putting themselves at risk as they distribute aid in food and shelter and emergency relief..

Through the conflict and chaos many children are separated from their families and are at risk of abduction and rape from armed groups..

Seeing and reading the stories of children who are suffering, but whose lives have been changed by the help of charities such as Save the Children and the Red Cross always makes me so ashamed of my own grumbles..And pleased that in some small way I can help these children..

I am pleased that most of our children in society are well fed and have a roof over their head and are well cared for..

So please this Christmas when we are stuffing our faces and wasting half of the food and moaning about the shopping cues and cost… And our Kids are demanding this and that..

Please spare a thought for the Children of our World and if you can also a £ / $ for such charities..
