I love the Things with Wings.
Once upon a time there lived a little Caterpillar who lived among the cabbages and weeds. All day long he’d munch and chew, munch and chew, as bigger and bigger he grew.
And each day as he watches the birds high in the sky, he thinks how wonderful it would be to have Wings and fly, and live high up with the tree instead of munching low to the ground, beneath the Cabbages making no sound.
Then one day he had a fright, as birds did swoop and peck with beak, his cabbage leaf to shake his feet.
His friend was munching by his side when all of a sudden in big surprise, the one with Wings did grab him tight, and off she flew with him out of sight.
Oh how he wished he had wings!
He munched his way among the leaves getting wet and cold with breeze, until one day he’d ate his Fill, and thought to himself he’d catch a chill.
He saw the birds all flying south and wished once more with yawning mouth that he too had wings.
And so when days did grow too cold, he spun a blanket around him to hold him suspended from wind and hail, He chose a spot in a sheltered Vale, and as he snuggles down to sleep he dreamt of birds with wings so sleek
At last from slumber he awoke. as Sun rays did shine with heat to stroke,
his back as he did stretch his legs and he pushed his way out of his Bed.
He’s hung suspended upon his thread, and waited until the sun shone on his head.
He stretched himself in all directions, and jumped with joy at his inspections, for no longer was he green and fat. but he’d grown Wings now Fancy that..
He flew with Joy and lots of pride no longer now did he have to hide. He flapped his wings and fluttered High with wings did swoop and dive.
No longer was his world so dim, for he was free to fly on whim.
He settled high on blossoms branch, oh how he loved his wings and danced.
At last I’ve got my wings to fly..
At last I’m flying In the Sky ..

Sadly I am seeing less and less caterpillars and BEEs this year… so less and less butterflies and less pollination.
Remember if you are using pesticides, they do not just affect the pests.. They affect the Bee’s and the Butterflies… And YOU!..
The poem I wrote way back when, and the images are from my WP archive… The only pests we have on our allotment at the moment is blackfly on our runner beans and on my camomile plants.. I use a home made spray for these..
Here are 8 homemade recipes for Natural Homemade Sprays…
The photos below are photos taken in previous years..
So please remember too the Bees…. and all things small…
So Save the BEEs and Butterflies and think before you Spray.
Enjoy the Butterflies and Bees Below…
Have a Beautiful Weekend.

Hi Sue, you are a masterful storyteller and poet. Such wonderful words of life and metamorphosis and images to match. 🦋 Coincidentally (or not) hubby and I visited a butterfly sanctuary, less than a week ago here in Far North Queensland. There were so many beautiful monarch butterflies, though not many Ulysses ones, that are normally found here. It was all rather enlightening. Thank you for this beautiful post and message. Yes indeed my friend, it’s time to fly. Wishing you much love as we all find our wings. xx 💙❤️🙏🏻

We need to think of all creatures, not just us. I usually capture and release, tho i did squash a cabbage worm the other day. 😳 My greenhouse garden is usually pest free, however. I had a great little lizard helper, so happy when I saw him, until one morning I looked in an empty plant pot and he had crawled in there and was unable to get out and died. I really mourned his little life, because he was a great little bug catcher! But on we go. 😘

Aww.. sorry about the misadventure of your little Lizard Helper.. We have frogs from our pond in our home garden.. I spent ages saving one of our frogs as I pulled out a load of weed from our pond the other week and a baby frog was in among it and was jumping across the lawn.. I didn’t want Biscuit our cat pouncing… You should have seen me, jumping with him trying to catch him… So I know how you must have felt… I did catch him and put back in the pond.. Eventually.. lol 🙂 ❤

In recent years, I’ve noticed so many more bumblebees than honeybees. Almost no honeybees UNTIL the fall sedum blooms. Then we have loads and loads of them. I don’t know where they are the rest of the season, since I have so many flowers planted, but once that fall sedum blooms, wow, it’s like wall to wall honeybees.
Lovely poem, painting and photos. Happy gardening and much love! ❤ Laura

Likewise here Laura.. Most are the Wild Bumble bees either the tiny ones or the larger ones.. We used to at one time see lots of honey-bees from hives… I was watching our Jasmin and my Sweetpeas today as I was working in the garden.. They were a buzz with the small bumble bees… .. So word has got out 🙂 Thank you Laura… I know you also LOVE your own gardening… Have a great weekend Laura.. 🦋💚

Love it!!!! I grew one in a jar one summer….Such fun watching it and when the chrysalis happened it blew my mind that nature can create the color gold as in the gold balls around the top of it….Such a beautiful creation! Thanks for sharing the time lapse….Fun watching it all in motion! It amazes me how fast they eat, time lapse or no time lapse…Hope all is well….Very hot here and I’m trying to function…lol I think we finally cool off tomorrow. My hatching the Monarch was such a trip to witness! It was so wonderous it was the reason I named my blog what I did. After the butterfly dried and pumped his wings for a while, he fluttered over the field towards the forest. As it flew away I suddenly realized there is no way people can argue against reincarnation. What more proof does one need than to watch a caterpillar turn itself into a majestic butterfly? It just blows me away. Maybe I’ll be a cat my next time around 🙂 Happy weekend and give Biscuit a hug from me….Love to you DW…..VK ❤

He’s fed up and wanted out again… LOL… 🙂 He certainly has the Cat’s Life Lol.. 🙂
As to the witnessing of the Metamorphosis of the caterpillar I totally agree… Its Transformation in 3D…. Where as we transition via the Ether.. 🙂

Your tale/poem is perfect, Sue. I love it!
Yes, less and less butterflies, as years go by.
I live on a Monarch migratory path. 15 years ago there were CLOUDS of butterflies. Now… nothing.
BUT a ray of hope.
I walk the alleys looking for street art.
Wildflower butterfly gardens are everywhere, and there are butterflies & bees. Seems Toronto dropped its “No weed… erm wildflower gardens by law.
I see them on front streets, too, but I mostly walk in alleys.
These gardens are perfect for busy people, or people who don’t like gardening, as the wildflower gardens take care of themselves.
I’ll take the ray of hope.
