Morning breaks and all is still and pure
The warm breeze is fresh with calm expectation
As a new day dawns.
Then on wind comes first one, then many voices
Each greeting a new day, knowing not what it will bring. ,
I listen to their song, each trill, each chirp rings out in greeting
Their symphony rises as each sing to be heard, as messages
Are passed among the tree tops.
I pick out the blackbird, the Robin, and the Sparrow
Sadly, it’s a while since I heard the sweet Song Thrush
And I ponder upon a Birds Life.
To wake with such joy, no thought of worry
Living in the Now of every moment
Accepting opportunities as they busy themselves in finding food
Catching insects, worms and making the most of human kindness
As they feed from the bird tables and drink from the bird baths.
And So a poem is born…
The Blackbird
Morning breaks and all is still
Until the Blackbird makes his trill
To call upon all who will listen
As morning dew in sunlight glistens
~~
First one, then two, then a multitude
Their joy in song they do exude
Imparting greetings of a brand-new day
I often wonder what messages they convey.
~~
As Sparrow chirps and Robin sings
Each not knowing what the day will bring
Yet each in tree on branch sings out
No worry in mind or do they doubt
~~
That upon the wing enough food they’ll find
No regrets of fear of future in mind
Living each moment as it arrives
Knowing enough food Nature will provide
~~
And yet if we look, we too will see sorrow
As some on wing will not see tomorrow
For Nature creates her balancing act
And that comes from Hawk and next doors cat.
~~
I ponder then upon sorrow felt, as laments on wing are sung
Lone parents, working twice as hard to rear their young
Yet come the morn, I hear their voice
As a New Dawn rises, they sing and rejoice
~~
Would that we Humans could sing our Songs
To know each day, we were so strong
That we could Trust and live in our Now
Thank you Blackbird
You teach me how..

I am lucky I live in a forest and the song of birds is not plenty but not rare either. I often sit on the porch to write and often listen to their song. I’m lucky I have a robin nesting in the cedar beside my large porch. I have swallows nesting in a bird house on the side. There is another bird house and not to long ago a chickadee was removing material from the bird house. It is unknown if they built a nest or not in that particular birdhouse.

it’s disturbing when our neighbors the birds start vanishing; the ‘clearing’ of the roadsides coincided with the vermilion flycatchers’ absence. once they were plentiful and now they make rare appearances.
the dawn sounds at casa loca filled the air with sweetness, a varied serenade of little songbirds as well as the grunts and squawking from egrets, herons and even the chattering of the kingfishers. i will greatly miss that gentle awakening of the day.
thank you, dear sue, for reminding us of the sweetness of nature’s morning song.

Beautiful poem, Sue. Simply by observing the birds, you have drawn the deep lesson of living in the moment. We sometimes worry so much about the future or live with regrets of the past that we simply forget to perceive and appreciate what the present has to offer us.
Loved the music. It infuses the same hope, happiness and optimism that nature brings to us at the break of dawn.
Wish you a wonderful week. Love & Regards.

A poem within a poem – brilliant! As I read, I thought about the blackbirds…they are different from the ravens and crows? Oh and then my mind flitters to thoughts of Edgar Allan Poe and his poem, The Raven, which I voluntarily wanted to memorize in high school…I don’t know why; it always spoke to me.
I just love the black birds – there are so many beautiful Native American Indian legends about them. And they’ve fascinated humanity so.
When I first moved to where we live now, I recall how aware I became of the birdsong. In the mornings, it is a choral harmony of songbirds and coupled with the rising sun, my heart waxes poetic. There are so many different types of birds here.
I would feed them, but we have two cats; I don’t want to invite any danger into their lives. But this reminds me that I would love to put out some hummingbird feeders…
Birds are such magical creatures, flying high and free. They symbolize communication on a higher plane. We’ve watched a cardinal “couple” take up residence near us, and they have been feasting on some of the garden plants, hehe. And they LOVE our blueberries and wineberries! 😀
In any case, I hope you’re having a wonderful day, sweet Sue! Thank you for this beautiful set of poems to brighten my day and remind me to breathe and pay attention to the birdsong. ❤ Sending you hugs and light! xoxo

Nature does teach us so much! I imagine the first human songs were imitations of nature sounds. Here in the south, the voices of bugs and frogs tend to rise above the songs of birds, but when I’ve gotten up early in the morning, I hear the birds waking up first. You motivate me to get up early and listen!

Great post. I stand alone in the yard each morning, just before the sun begins to rise, and I listen to the birds as they begin their day. My neighbor to the North and neighbor to the South both have young roosters that begin to crow. I laugh, because neither rooster has perfected his crowing skills yet. Lol The little Wrens are talking to me as I wander around the yard. Love your poem Sue – you are a good poet indeed friend. Happy week to you Sue. xxxx

The allotments have rooters, though they have been asked not to keep them as people complain in homes near by. Nothing nicer to be woken up by the crow of these birds.. I love the wrens too.. Again not as many here as we used to see.. But I did see a couple last Autumn, but they have not been seen in my garden since.. I just hope the cats have not got them.
While I love cats, and have had them as my four legged companions over my life time.. Nature is nature..
And one took a shine to our frogs.. and we now know why they have been disappearing as we caught one on the motion camera the other evening catching a frog. But that is natures balance, and instincts..
Many thanks Peggy for your kind comment, I really appreciate your visits xxx ❤

It is a beautiful thing to hear Sue. We become so used to all their sounds but if we stop and actually listen, a whole new world opens up.
But not very nice when you realise something is missing…something you were so used to hearing that its silence now stands out.
May you never hear the voice of extinction, that sound is deafening 😀
Beautiful poem for what I hope will stay forever ❤

Yes agreed with you Mark.. The Song Thrush was several years ago a regular visitor to our garden.. Sadly we have seen less and less over the years..
New housing developments, have ripped up hedgerows and new industrial estates.. people are chopping conifers down and trees to pave their gardens for less maintenance.. All have that knock on affect.. The house sparrows are struggling too. As once upon a time they would nest high in the apex’s of the wood on houses, not everything is coated in plastic, so no little holes to crawl into.. The swifts and swallows again we see but a portion of what we used to see..
I hope I never have to listen to the voice of extinction Mark.. But the world is growing more silent of Song.. ❤ xxx

Yes it is a frightening thing Sue, and I don’t just mean the knock on effect.
From an energy and spiritual place it feels like such a loss, and the failure of something that could be so beautiful, the very thing we have been seeking all our lives…a paradise…yet we follow our fears.
I think I might just take over the governments of the world and force the politicians to ‘know’ love and the freedom it would bring…in everything. Maybe then we would find that paradise 😀
Mind you, by doing that I may prolong their journey to find it truthfully, and the self love that it would bring ❤ 😀

Haha…. yes, true Mark.. I often have that same thought.. If ONLY.. but then we are all upon our particular pathway, Each on their own course of learning, and growing..
I am seeing now more than ever how we have to maintain our own Universe.. When we do that, our outer world is projected into our reality.. So I am learning more and more, that while I need to care, I also need to detach from other peoples stories.. At first its hard.. because you do not want to think you are not caring.. I do all too often care too much.. This drags my energy down.. And as much as we need compassion.. We also need LOVE, and PEACE.. getting caught in the games the politicians are playing with our minds at the moment is not doing either us or the world at large any good.. Especially here with Brexit at the moment.. Then other awful disasters which are dominating at the moment..
So sitting in the energy of Nature, SEEing truly what is before our eyes.. Brings me at least to that little patch of paradise even if temporary . Learning to let go.. of those Fears and see maybe this is all part of the plan.. As we wake up to ourselves..
Its all we can do.. Be true to ourselves, and honour our own self-love and the inner peace this has brought..
Love and Blessings my friend.. I hope this is not as scrambled as I type away my thoughts here 🙂

Beautiful Sue, Just as I hear it every morning but for the drowning out of the seagulls being so close to the coast. They come and go then ‘leave the world to darkness and to me’ as I wait for the dawn and my perpetual songster, the Robin.
Grieg enhances the joy and the peace that each morning brings in every season.

I’m fortunate enough to have birds in my neighbourhood and in my garden. They start their day as the first ray of the sun creeps in and their delightful songs make every day a new one! I can feel your words in this poem, Sue I also wish we could live a life like the birds…with no boundaries…

They are a very special bird. More like a pet actually. Once they get to know you they come around the feeders even if you are there. I think they definitely teach me to be present. Xoxo to you Sue.

yes, the blackbird and I in the allotment plot had a great relationship.. While he was feeding his young, and I was digging, I would throw the worms in his reach, He soon got braver and saw that if he came closer still he could forage for the worms almost next to my spade And brought me many smiles while I dug.. 🙂

We as a species have so much to learn from Mother, Sue. What a JOY it is to be awakened slowly around 4am to the beginning of bird song, float back to sleep and stir occasionally to hear the Songs of Love outside. Beautiful poem, dear friend. Keep on shining your Light for it is so precious!! 💖🌈

Beautiful post to start the working day with 🌞 Beginning to wonder if the cats have eaten all our wood pidgeys and the crowd of thuggish crows that usually visit our bird table! Has made way for an abundance if blue tits and to my surprise, coal tits 🤗 They’re very cute on the feeders 😊 We now have a large starling community too…bye bye suet ball supply! These are all very tiny however, after seeing the size of the giant seagulls down in Brighton recently! Big Wolfie hugs! xxxx

Oh lovely you have coal and blue tits.. Our blue-tit community has depleted over the years.. And the starling are making a come back.. At one time they were in abundance here. but their roosting trees were cut down.. So they moved on..
The cats have taken all of the frogs from our pond.. We kept seeing less and less, and then hubby had a motion nature video camera bought him for his birthday the pictures above from there.. We saw the cat doing his dastardly deed .. Seems our garden is a hive of activity when darkness falls.. 🙂 xxx

Oh dear! Poor little frogs! My parents have recently moved house but they had the same problem at their old house. They made a little pond at the base of the oak tree and it attracted lots of little frogs. The cats were guaranteed to catch and make off with unlucky baby ones, though they did manage to rescue some of them from the feline jaws of death!
The coal tits are lovely! They come in pairs and mingle with the blue tits on the feeder. So the contrast of colour and monochrome on the respective birds really stands out. Didn’t know we had any round here so I’m very happy about this revelation 😀 And I was amused to see big fat wood pidgey is in fact still around 😂 He was standing on the fence when I got home tonight typically eyeing the somewhat empty bird table up with his usual disgust! I have since dutifully rectified this heinous error! lol 😃 The starlings are gannets and left nothing from this morning! That will be half my wages gone on extra bird food this weekend!! xx

Yes the starlings are very greedy birds especially when they descend in great flocks. And they can clean out my red current bush in seconds as I found to my cost the other year before I netted it. lol.. But happily I the freezer is now heaving of berries.. So this year Dreamwalker Won.. 🙂

What a beautiful poem, Sue. I may not be an early riser but the birds outside my window are always there to sing to me as I open my eyes. I was devastated when I first moved here because I only saw a couple different species of birds and now after three years of planting, hanging food for them and leaving wild spaces in the yard my property is filled with a growing number of different birds and I am thrilled every time I see a new one. Have a great day, Sue.

Lovely, Sue. I love to hear the dawn chorus, although I couldn’t tell you who was singing what, unfortunately.
And yes, we should take each day as it comes, and enjoy every moment of it so we too feel like singing. In my case, feeling like it is close enough… the actual doing of it may spoil someone else’s day enough to stop them singing! Although laughter’s good too, and that may help there! 😀
