Reconnecting to our Inner Light.

light

I wrote the below post two years ago.. I thought it perfect to re-share it again in full here. Along with another Mandala of Cynthia Sageleaf ‘s who shared her drawing with me which I painted in.. You can find  her wonderful blog over at http://intuitiveandspiritual.com/  Along with her creations of Mandala’s

I painted this Mandala in watercolour last week..

Today I have been painting one of my own original paintings.. Sometimes we have to step away from the chaos being churned out in our world and reconnect back within our own Lights..

The below post goes on to explain more.. The original post was entitled

Finding our Light

I am still amazed at how many of you resonated with a previous post Cracking our Inner Shells. And I am so grateful for your responses and for those who shared this post with their own readers..

Knowing that we are the only ones with the power to dim our lights, is often  a hard  pill to swallow. As Human’s we often apportion blame for our emotional feelings  upon others or circumstances we find ourselves in. Yet in truth only I allow myself to feel sad, as likewise only I can choose to feel happy.

It’s natural we sometimes become overwhelmed, especially when the lessons keep coming. But it is important to remember that learning to understand yourself and your world is an on-going journey which we are all  gathering  through our experiences.

We do not come to Earth with instruction manuals, its all about learning and finding ourselves as we progress.  We are  spiritual beings, we need to determine where our spiritual light is being subdued or blocked.  Sometimes life throws up those much needed lessons so we have a chance to remove the layers of debris, so we can get out of our own way to feel our own light shining again.

Those lessons are intended to help you become more of who you are. And as you grow through this self-discovery, you begin to create your own instruction manual. And as with any manual, we often refer back to it as we tap into our intuitive thoughts, which help guide us through the pages of our everyday lives.

Answering the many responses upon my own posts often allows me to reach much deeper within my own inner self..I find myself instinctively saying the right things..As I tap into that Inner World which guides, And then I check myself and then question my self.. As I ask myself “ So why are you not following your own advice?”… Practice what you preach is another pill to swallow!..

When we buy a car, we make sure we maintain it properly, we put in the correct fuel, we keep it topped up with oil, and clean and polish it.. Our Bodies are vehicles for our Mind and Spirit. So too we need to polish our thoughts  clearing away the accumulation of mental  debris that keeps us from operating at our fullest capacity.

A simple shift in our thoughts can positively affect our mental state, moving from complaints, and negativity  into gratitude and Positivity by applying the light of love to any shadowy thoughts. .. Learning to nurture oneself instead of chastising oneself, Applying liberally that Polish we seldom use upon our selves… The Name of which is Love.

How many negative thoughts flit through our minds in a day?  This morning caught me in this mood, Until I heard myself speak my thoughts aloud and I realised just how pitiful they sounded.. And I burst out laughing as I learnt another valued lesson.

At times we need to embrace the stillness, connecting back into the power within our centre, Meditation allows us to reconnect back to the source..  I know this is true of myself, I give my power/energy away by being pulled in too many directions all at once.. This Power Source  is always there for us, but when we forget to connect, we forget to put ourselves first and gather back in the energy we need to power up our own inner Lights. And so our lights become dim..

Sometimes it can be difficult to find the stillness if our bodies and minds are in the way. Depression plays its tricks that we are not worthy.

I can dish out advice until I am blue in the face.. But my lesson in this is clear..

I need to practice what I preach.. As we practice steps to keep our energy flowing freely and without obstruction, we shine our light more brightly, illuminating our own paths and making the world around us brighten as well.

Many thanks for reading

Shine your Lights

~Sue~

Beautiful mandela and beautiful post. Yes we can dim our own lights but I think trauma can also dim your lights that you have no control over. Society’s teachings.

Oh I am so in agreement there about Trauma Joseph.. And understand perfectly how it can alter our perspective and bring to us our own shadows that dim our previously bright lights .. I have been there often..
Its hard to pull ourselves back up.. Yet no one but ourselves can do it.. Even though we may be given all kinds of help.. We still have to look deep within at ourselves and find our inner light again..
Sending much love your way Joseph.. And I know its been a long haul and you are still climbing.. But I feel you are gaining much more strength and we take our steps one at a time to climb back up from the dimness..
Blessings your way my friend.. Sue

Yes I am climbing with little pull backs here and there. Lost a little still. Now I have to figure out what died in me and I think that block will be lifted until then I climb. Thanks for your wisdom and kind words

“As I ask myself “ So why are you not following your own advice?”…This is such a comfort as I think, ME TOO! And we get to remind each other what we know but sometimes forget…something as simple as taking slow deep breaths as I read this post. I didn’t even realize I was breathing so shallow. I love that we can laugh at ourselves.

😉 Laughing at ourselves is the only way.. We take too many things too seriously..
And I am not perfect by any means of the imagination.. I am constantly reviewing my thoughts when I catch myself talking to myself.. 🙂
And yes something simple like deep breathing.. Works wonders.. :-D..
I always say, if I were perfect I would not be here for this experience.. So we live and learn accepting our faults But learning to improve.. 🙂 xxx ❤

    Hi Sue,
Your mandala is striking. I see a third eye in the middle and it seems to possess a “being-like” quality. At least through my eyes! I have been away from meditation for a good while but spent a few moments yesterday with eyes closed , going within. It felt natural and comforting.
    As is your presence ❤

    take good care,
    Linda

Thank you for that Linda.. Yes I wanted the middle to reflect the eye.. lol.. I wanted it to feel Light and colourful.. Light containing all colours within it.. I didn’t spend too much time going into the feelings I felt which were many while I was painting it.. And I am pleased you are getting back into Meditation.. showing you just how comfortable you are with it.. This post was a big reminder to myself to begin the spiritual practices I have allowed to slow down over the Christmas period and just prior..
I am enjoying reconnecting again with my art and have spent 3 hours again today on a painting.. And painting is like Meditating.. It takes me to another World.. xxx

This could not have come at a better time in my life, Sue! Practice what you preach!!! I know it basically and that makes the pressure even stronger because I have no excuse! So make that inevitable step ahead and stop torturing yourself with questioning if the time was right… the perfect moment will never come. I need to make the moment perfect! Thank you for that confirmation, Sue!

We continually strive for perfection, and yet were we perfect we would not be upon our Earth Journey.
So accepting we are ‘Works in Progress’ seeing our faults and trying to rectify our failings will I think always be in our natures, for that is who we are..
Learning that no matter what, we will always have our faults. but we learn throughout the years to accept them. So long as we try our Best.. to be the best we can be, and improve upon our faults.. We will keep progressing and growing..
I know I still have a lot of growing to do.. But it never hurts to remind ourselves of the improvements still to be made.. LOL..

Thank you Erika.. Your feed back means a lot.. ❤

Thank you so much for your amazing reply! I love how you say that we are “work in progress”. That’s actually why we came here: in order to evolve (and to enjoy life with all senses). It is our purpose to live. And living also means to stumble, fall, and get up again! I love your post more and more!!!

How does it go? Don’t do as I do, do as I say! Not!! Words of wisdom here in your post Sue, as my better half keeps telling me, practice what you preach! What gets in the way with me is my constant doubt that things will not turn out as I want and this kind of negativity allows disagreement to hover just below the surface which constantly need to watch. We are told that there is only a stream of Well-being and, as you so rightly say, we are the only ones who have the power to block it! Love, David

Why are you evaluating negative thinkings/feelings as something which has to be overcome in any case? I know negativity in its deepest and most shadowy sense what is really not a very wishful state of being. Now just replacing this by the very trendy positive thinking is kind of brainwashing for me. Accepting the duality of both together only makes it possible to get rid of certain barriers. There are thousands, millions and billions of ways to manage this. Nice weekend!

Thank you for your own most Positive outlook upon this.. Yes I agree, we live in a world of duality.. Of both Positives and Negatives.. And without One the Other would not exist.. I totally get that..

But many of us now are getting bogged down within the Negative World which is affecting ENERGY.. Along with Mass Consciousness..
I choose not to sit in its Dim Light.. Which when I wrote the post I know my energy was being affected by allowing it to overwhelm me..

You will see I went on to say within my post ..
“A simple shift in our thoughts can positively affect our mental state, moving from complaints, and negativity into gratitude and Positivity by applying the light of love to any shadowy thoughts. .. Learning to nurture oneself instead of chastising oneself, Applying liberally that Polish we seldom use upon our selves… The Name of which is Love

I Will always hold Negative thinking.. We all will.. It’s how we evaluate our right from wrong..
But I choose to improve and work upon my dim light and endeavour to bring it into a ‘Lighter’ way of thinking..
No single person upon this earth is perfect.. We would not be here to experience other wise.. However I will keep trying my best to improve and Raise my Spirits Higher into those Lighter Realms, rather than embracing the Darker ones..

Many thanks again.. I loved this chance to exchange views and thoughts about Positive and Negative Energy..

Blessings to you my friend and I wish you a Peaceful Harmonious Weekend
      Hugs Sue

Fabulous painting job DW ! Really beautiful And your words of truth ring true today and well as two years ago…Practicing what we preach is vital otherwise it is just a lot of hot air blowing around the internet and there is enough of that already. We have chances every moment of every day to practice and improve upon following through on our words. It is just a matter of if we do follow through or not. That my dear friend is yet another part of our mission on our quest to become the best that we can be….You are well ahead of the game. Stay true to yourself and have a wonderful weekend. Sue – first, I apologize for the delay in making it over here. We have been working on a grant at work that would extend our program by 3 years…many late nights this week trying to get that submitted. But, it’s a wonderful Friday evening now and I have a moment to do something I love: connecting with kindred spirits!
As far as coloring Light. You have blown me away once again with your beautiful gift for color and intrinsic art ability.
You know, I consider you a wise, wise soul. Your spiritual wisdom has helped inspire me on my own journey. Furthermore, your gentle words goad so many to look within and find their peace.
And you’re so right: we’re all on a journey and we need all our experiences to find our light. I’ve often wondered how I ended up in teaching. So, so many around me have said I have a gift for it. Alas, I wanted that “gift” to be in writing or in art or in some other specialized subject. To be sure, I still find myself in education and sometimes wonder about how I ended up right where I am.
But all my experiences, all my journeys, all my decisions have led to this moment and I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. Whether I think I am or not. 🙂
But there’s such wisdom in accepting that and using it to grow. I know I’ve always wanted to find a way to incorporate art and creativity into what I do, incorporate writing and spirituality…but I’ve slowly discovered that I am not supposed to be an artist, I’m not supposed to just be a writer, I’m not supposed to be a monk…and the more I help people, the more I realize it’s about giving and being a light and focusing less on the self but, in fact, making the world a better place. It’s taken awhile to arrive there, and there’s a certain humility I feel in accepting that.
To that end, what I’m doing now – trying to use all my gifts in a cohesive whole through my website – is incredibly heart-lifting. It’s so amazing to be meditating and creating and hoping that it is making a difference. 🙂 So this: what you’ve posted here and your post with Harmony has been such a gift to me. It’s reassuring me that I’m going in a good direction.
And because of this reassurance, because folks are responding, and knowing that so many have come to me and have said, “you’re supposed to be a teacher,” I’m pondering the idea of becoming a (secular) meditation teacher. I find such joy in it. I have a website about it. That’s all I read (in my leisure time) about. It’s what lights me up in conversations with people who are open to it. I’ve meditated for a long time and often think, “how far can I go with this?” Hehe.
And the number 3. I keep seeing it repeated everywhere. Earlier, I looked at the clock and it said, 6:33. This morning, I was in a kitchen at work and the digital clock wasn’t broken on the stove, but had never been set. When I looked at it, it said, 3:33 which, upon doing a little research, is a “Master Teacher” number. (And that was at 10 this morning.)
I’m getting goosebumps writing this. And you, my friend, I think, are absolutely supposed to be on my path. So, I’m sending you hugs and gratitude: I am *so* glad to know you and feel the joy in your work and in your words, your artwork and heart. xoxo

      Dearest Cynthia..
Your comment just well, words cannot express.. Comments and interactions such as yours are exactly why I set up this blog way back in 2007.. To try in a small way to make a difference within someone’s life..
Be it by making them smile, or by allowing them to look at the world from a different perspective.

I have never preached or told anyone this is what they should believe, because everyone has the right to their own minds, to make their own choices. Viewing and dissecting the world to fathom it out is often a confusing process.. So many distractions, so many paths, and labels while others are always telling us their path is the right one.. And if we do not join them we are against them..

I cannot tell you how delighted I am that you understand that you are meant to be exactly where you are right now. Doing what you are doing right now..
We may not always see clearly.. As our hearts often yearn to share what we know deep within.. Yet often times we fail to find ways of expressing what it is we internally and intuitively KNOW.. That ‘Knowing’ is what connects many of us..

I hope all of that hard work and effort you have put into your application for that grant works out well.. I am sure it will.. And if it isn’t meant to be, then so be it. For again it signals another phase within your journey..

When I think back to the times when employed and I was made redundant as firms closed due going bankrupt and the receivers were called in.. Their teams came in oblivious to the time, effort, sweat and tears and dedication that the employees had given to the firm.. And at a sweep of a pen, you were cast out and abandoned..
Yet now when looking back to those most trying of times.. And heart ache of not only leaving your place of work but your friends.. They were perhaps the best thing that could have happened to me..
For they catapulted me into another direction.. It may have taken me 3 more such redundancies before I finally learned that there was more to life than continuing in the skills I had trained for all of my working life.. Within the textile trade.
Thus another new adventure began within my Support Work career..

What I am saying is nothing is without purpose.. Even these trying times now we are experiencing world wild.. Energies are working through both the positive and Negative.. And Like I said in another comment I replied too about why was I concentrating upon the negative aspects.. I replied because I want to improve and do my best..
Doing our best is all we need focus upon..
Yes I am not always disciplined to do my meditation every day.. But then I draw, paint, garden, play the strings on my guitar.. Which takes me to that other place.. A medatative place of Peacefulness..

When I was a working Medium, and taking classes in Meditation, and a Healer, It would consume my thoughts constantly.. As each spare moment away from my day job I would be focused upon helping others use these skills..

Now years later.. I see I no longer need a candle.. Or to sit for a set amount of time daily.. For I meditate by watching the birds feed.. I meditate by cloud watching.. I meditate in the smile of a child.. For we are then at Peace within.. And that to me is what we are each of us striving for..
We think we will find it in our gadgets, our possessions, and in the external Things we hold on to..
When really.. That LIGHT has always been patiently waiting for us to recognise it..
      It’s there within us all..
We just need step inside and go find it..

Much love.. For you brought all of that Out of ME.. 🙂

      Blessings Sue xxx

Yes, Sue, everything in our mind and within us, the light that can show us the path and power to move ahead in our life. So beautifully put by you that we come to this earth without any instruction manual and never easy to do something for the first time and not to make mistake and no body can learn and master the art of living life without experiencing and engaging with so many different things and facets of daily grind and situations so challenging to situations that provides so much to take away and many times our mind and mood dominates and we look at things in a blurred lens and filter away many vital learning that could otherwise made a huge difference in our life.

Yes, just that shift in our thought from negativity to positivity sets the platform to launch new ideas and reach new places and grab new opportunities, opening of our mind and making it receptive to the change is harbinger of good life…it is the gratitude and the gumption face the reality and lift ourselves from the lows of life to the higher planes…

The analogy of car, we buy and we forget about how to properly maintain it then we are for a trouble, similarly the mind keep receiving the thoughts and keeps processing it the way we have tuned it and if we leave long and allow it to get corrupted and not get cleaned and updated, the junk thoughts takes the better off and acts the debris and the hurdles in the inflow of the fresh and new ideas that can positively influence our life.

Nobody can counter the power of Meditation in changing our approach to life and building a life full of purpose and leading a meaningful life. The art of practicing meditation needs lot of efforts and commitment to graduate ourselves to the next level of mental engagement. The power of YOGA and Meditation takes us close to our inner self and connects us with our inner light that is so powerful that it can change the course of our life for a better world for ourselves and the people surrounding us…the energy gets channelized and gets harnessed through the practice of YOGA…

I agree Sue it all boils down to practicing what we preach…very inspiring thoughts indeed Sue in this very post. Thanks for sharing.
    Take Care!!!

      Thank you Nihar..
Yes that analogy of the car is a good one.. So many people take better care of their car’s, their possessions than they do of their own mental and physical wellbeing..
      And you said it perfectly
“The analogy of car, we buy and we forget about how to properly maintain it then we are for a trouble, similarly the mind keep receiving the thoughts and keeps processing it the way we have tuned it and if we leave long and allow it to get corrupted and not get cleaned and updated, the junk thoughts takes the better off and acts the debris and the hurdles in the inflow of the fresh and new ideas that can positively influence our life.”

You hit the nail on its head with the junk thoughts, and the debris we collect within our minds.. We need to use our minds like a car.. And ‘Filter’ out that junk.. it then will operate more smoothly for sure 🙂

I do not practice Yoga.. But I do practice QI Gong.. so I totally understand about keeping those energies moving, grounding them and pulling them within.

Thank you again Nihar for expressing your most welcome perspective.. I wish you a most Peaceful Sunday my friend.
      Blessings Sue 🙂

Yes Sue these materialistic things in our life has made us largely disconnected and we have unknowingly distanced ourselves from our inner self, the good thoughts and we keep accumulating whatever comes our way and we spent little time in separating the good from the bad and we get badly lost in the wilderness of cacophony of thoughts that keeps flowing at neck break speed at us…everything is sudden and everything is in bulk and we are in a hurry and we have little time to pause and reflect, so whatever we do to our materialistic objects we keep doing to our mind, mind is no exception and it needs the space and it needs the filter to get the junk out and get the it free from the clutter.

By the way Sue, what is this QI Gong, could you please through some light on it and have never heard about it…it is always so exciting for me to learn something new and I look forward in each such post and comments…you have always been a wonderful source of such fascinating thoughts and newer ideas, I eagerly wait for your insightful comments and there are so much depth in each of your comments, it makes me feel enlightened.

        Thanks so much Sue…

Thank you for that wonderful reply again Nihar.. I follow the Spring Forest Qi Gong practice.. And this is what helped with my healing from Fibromyalgia some years ago.. Its pulling in energy through gentle exercise and breathing along with mindful intentions..
And it has been known to heal many people.. This is the official website.. I did it in the late 90’s before he became as well known as today ..
You will see the Qi Gong exercises he does.. Check out also the testimonials of healing.. Wonderful results..

Thanks so much Sue, I was just trying to go through the site, it is about energy and how we work on our energy and bring that healing touch to our body and mind. So does Yoga and Meditation also fundamentally deals with channelizing and churning the energy and get it used optimally and ultimately it is about the well being and feeling of happiness and joy. The control, the composure, the calm and the collective wisdom that makes us mindful of things around us and so much that is within us not known to us and we keep looking in the dark and outside us…since you have personally experienced and benefited from the healing process who else can be in a better position to talk on it..

In today’s lifestyle it is more important to get us under such practice and regime to be in control and be in peace with self.
            I will try it out…
            😀

This is something we have to continue practicing, Sue. I’m my own worst enemy if I find myself on a different path from where I want to be… I’m a fool, stupid, etc… when really all I’ve done is taken a slight detour. Just get back on the right track again and move on! No need to beat myself up about it – just be grateful for recognising where I needed to be at that time. I think using my light to shine upon my path ahead is a good idea… it should also help when I come to a crossroads or a fork in the road. You’ve given me food for thought with this post, Sue… thanks for that. And I like your mandala. 🙂

And All roads lead home.. even though some may be smoother than others.. And I am happy this post gave you an idea.. That is the greatest compliment from one whose head is full of them. LOL.. 🙂

Also good to remember..only I can dim my light and a simple change in gears /thinking/etc is huge..makes a world of difference. Thank you, my friend.

“” we are the only ones with the power to dim our lights” that is so true, yet it’s so hard to remember when we want to surrender to whatever it is that takes that power away….

Thank you Lisa.. Yes there are many things and people always waiting to take away our power of self… We so easily fall into the traps that take our powers of thinking for ourselves away from us.. Which is why its always good to reconnect to the greatest Power Source of all.. Our Hearts.. 🙂

Beautiful Mandala Sue, this one demanded time 😀
These Mandalas are so beautiful, that I decided to join and follow there too.

You are right, it is so easy to advice others, what to do. More difficult to follow our own advice, but necessary sometimes…..

I’m not good for structure, even I need it too. I love to live in the moment, which also are fine, but some structure would help, I think.

    Wish you a beautiful day
    Irene ❤

    Hi Sue,
I’ll gladly add my beat to your drum! We have a beautiful space here, when we can gather and realize that we are all working with the same energies. Our thoughts are constant gardens, needing tending and awareness. At the same time there is so much peace in just allowing thoughts to run their course, through expression, and inner reflection, we can become calm quite naturally. Things always crop up to stir our thoughts, or get the gears working, and this can bring up fears; ultimately it is only ourselves who can guide those thoughts into more resourceful energies. This is a constant practice. I think we do improve at it, although I also think we still continue on never really being 100% clean. I think that’s the beauty and dynamism of living, it – as you say- is why we are on the planet in the first place.

    Much Love, Ka

Beautiful post, Sue. Everyone we meet, every circumstance we find ourselves in is a mirror of our reflection. How we deal with it determines whether or not we grow. Energy follows thought. Remembering this ~ and moving into gratitude ~ is the only thing that gets me through the rough patches. I am so grateful for you, dear friend 💖

Thank you Tina.. Yes its often those who confront us and test us that are our greatest teachers. For they challenge us to move through our emotions and often are reflecting back to us our own faults that we can be too blind to see… I now often ask the question to myself when I come upon a difficult situation or obstacle, ‘what am I being shown and what lessons is this particular problem teaching me?’ Not always easy.. But as you say, looking at where I am in life, and where others are in the world, I give thanks daily for the blessings I have.. And I always try to end my day by giving thanks for all that it contained..
Love and Blessings to you Tina. ❤ Sue x

The mandala you painted is beautiful dear Sue… I follow Cynthia as well… Her new blog is great! 😀
As to the post: so much wisodm and things to ponder, my friend.
I was particularly moved by this excerpt:
“Knowing that we are the only ones with the power to dim our lights, is often a hard pill to swallow. As Human’s we often apportion blame for our emotional feelings upon others or circumstances we find ourselves in”.
That´s so true… I tend to take responsabilities for my own actions… But at the same time: the burden is heavy as you say in the firstpast of the quotation.
I agree with you when you say that all experiences have their own value, even if they are “bad ones” … Life is about living, hence about making mistakes in order to learn and try to do better.
Your post is very well written and truly reached me. Thanks so much for sharing! 😉 I hope your 2017 is a great year. Love & best wishes. ❤

Thank you dear Aquileana for that lovely response.. Yes our mistakes are also so important.. We learn and move through them and gain strength from them.. It is not so apparent when we are experiencing these lessons.. But the knowledge comes much later when we look back, and see that a particular lesson or event took us to take another pathway.. Or a closed door we thought blocked us, had made us walk further to look at other doors we would not have considered opening .. And I love it how there are no coincidences in life, all things have a reason..
I am really blessed when you visit.. And I thank you so much for reading deeply into my post..
Wishing you a wonderful start also to 2017..
      Love and Blessings
      Sue ❤ ❤ xxx

Oh my goodness, Sue, there is so much for me to relate to here! How often I tell myself the exact thing … practice what you preach. It’s so easy to say things but to actually walk those things is a different story entirely. I was feeling SO sorry for myself and scared, yes true, and confused, oh yeah that too, that I am soon to turn 60. I heard … you are too old to do blah blah blah. Then …. I don’t feel good. And sat around a good while, rather laying around, feeling beat and defeated. I decided to go back to the gym (Yoga right now is just not working out) and when I did I saw due to construction all the machines I used to work out on were now in a mishmash. In other words I could not find them. Walking around wasting time looking for those machines had me getting upset. I don’t like wasting time especially working out because I am very specific how much time I wait in between sets. Finally I said no way! and went over to the free weights section to work out. And I haven’t looked back since. I was stunned by my immediate results, results only possible from decades of bodybuilding. My thinking has changed radically and again am flowing in a positive direction. With he latest with Rocky I must pace myself and really immerse me in Mother and my Passion, my camera, which I am. Oh Sue!!! Thank you so much for this post!! It is exactly what is happening in my life right now! And I LOVE that mandala!!! Awesome job painting it!!! (((HUGS))) Amy ❤

Each of us, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives, and their reactions in turn affect others As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain. Your thoughts and actions are like stones dropped into still waters, causing ripples to spread and expand as they move outward.. I hope that I can send a few ripples out via the web of life, as we each of us weave the threads together... Welcome to my Sanctuary of Peace and Love...
