Vision Quest 2~ Short Story

Well here is another episode of the Vision Quest.. There will be a few more until the outcome of the Vision Quest is revealed to Muna.. For those here for the first time the first part of this story can be found HERE.

Medicine-Wheel-2.jpg

As the dawn broke and the memory of the shadow within her dream still haunted her waking,  she decided to do as Aponi had suggested and go out on her vision quest. Aponi had long since told her how. But Muna had thought the dreams would go, but the fear inside was something Muna couldn’t quell, she needed to confront her dreamtime and find out what the Great Spirit had to say.

Muna packed a few supplies in a rucksack and said her farewells to her grandmother who nodded approvingly at the door as she made her way to a sacred spot high upon the mountain side. It took Muna several hours to walk the distance to the spot she knew and loved so well.

“Now pick your spot well Muna”, her grandmothers words came back as she strode purposely to the place on the mountain she had in her mind.  “You must be sure it’s the right spot for you Muna, Ceremony and Rituals are all important and many mark the rites of passage”, Aponi had explained how Ceremony allows for a deeper understanding between human nature and the Divine realms, which are inner enactments of Spiritual voyages.

The method Aponi had taught Muna was the Sacred Circle. She had told Muna to go about and build her circle by finding stones or twigs and place them in a circle in which to sit during a vision retreat within one’s self, her words echoed yet again.

“When you enter your circle, you are entering a place of sacred prayer it is a place of peace and calm it is Tuwanasaapi which means a place of belonging, your true home. The medicine wheel is the point you create to make a passage from the visible to the invisible realms, and Muna it is the place where one opens ones heart, where one unmasks the true self, it is the place of thankfulness and where one can reach out to the stars. The medicine wheel is a place where you build your own power within the sanctuary of spinning energy you alone can create this Muna. For only you can connect to your heart where all knowledge is kept, it is time you unlocked its secrets that you have buried so deep. You will feel the light and the sound of it, as it helps you shed off your old self as it renews your spirit with purified love. Set your intention Muna,  cast off your shadows and embrace the love within.”

So Muna found herself a grassy spot after much searching, one that felt just right that overlooked a wonderful view of the lake in the valley below. Here the trees were more sparse and the fear of the shadow seemed now to dim in the light of the wonderful morning light as it spilled its warmth over the valley, showing the many grasses and the meadow flowers as they gently nodded their heads in unison in the gently mountain breeze.

She took a drink of water from her rucksack and her stomach cried out in response as she had not eaten that morning…But she needed to fast, and took note on how much water she had, for her vision Quest could last all day.. if not longer. She was ready to begin.

How exciting the vision quest has begun!! What a beautiful place to begin on the green grasses. There is a medicine wheel within all of us and it is there that I end up when I am with my camera. Looking forward to read how this journey unfolds. ❤

This story brings so much peace to me. I can relate a lot to Muna and feel the healing power of that circle. Wonderful story, Sue!
I was surprised to see that you use the word “rucksack” (which is German) instead of backpack.

Thank you dear Erika.. so pleased you are enjoying.. and I have used the word rucksack since a child.. I guess its orgins were brought over to England way back, for where I was brought up in Derbyshire England.. we always called backpacks buy that name never a back pack.. … 🙂 I found this information for you.
The word rucksack is a German loanword mainly used in the UK and in Western military forces. In German, der Rücken means “the back (the part of the body)” and Sack for “bag”. The name rucksack is cognate with the Danish Rygsæk, Norwegian Ryggsekk, Dutch Rugzak, Afrikaans Rugsak and Swedish Ryggsäck. at this Link HERE Hope this helps 🙂

Interesting the name “Muna.” In Hawaiian, the name Mauna means Mountain. And subsequently then I am reminded of Oriah Mountain Dreamer. I bet you’d love her work, if you don’t know her already. Cheers, Sue! ❤

Oh, I love this! I have wanted to do my own vision quest in the wilderness. The silence, the self-discovery…though I’m a little nervous about doing it myself in the wilderness…
And the idea of the medicine wheel and the sacred circle – YES! My staff doesn’t know exactly why – I tell them circles invite community – but all the while I know that it helps elevate the energy of our space…
    Love the story!

For Erika: Rucksack is a word that Sue and I enjoy from our past and Germanic roots, and not used much these days having followed our cousins in the Americas where the Vision Quest is best known and backpack is common. The wilderness is a great place for the inner self and the higher self to conjoin where there is no outside interruption, but The Mother Lodge on the banks of a stream on a farm in Fife, Scotland in October 2000 shared with friends and Wa Na Nee Che, nearly naked in nature, was a powerful experience. Looking forward to the next episode Sue. Blessings and Love, David

Yay! She is on her way. I look forward to her visions, how long she stays, how she goes through the quest in her heart and her conversation with Aponi afterwards AND what her next ceremony will be. Vision Quests are so powerful. Personal ceremony is a deep connection to Self and Spirit.

Mary, thank you.. forgive the delayed response. Yes this Quest goes quiet deep.. there is a lot she needs to discover 🙂 so pleased you are enjoying.. I am trying to cut into bite size chunks that end in the right place.. Hard when the original quest sequence I wrote some years ago now is so long with over 5,000 words.. 🙂 So I am editing too as I go along .. The problem being I do not want to bore my readers with it.. 🙂 So its so good to get so much positive feed back .. Many thanks.. 🙂 ❤ Sue

A fascinating story Sue, I am following the same scenario in an Australian Aboriginal site that I have investigated, the same Spiritual circle, a place that leads to your innermost being, your very Soul of reflections, memory’s and learning.
Looking forward to finding what Muna discovers.

So begins the Quest. You have created a very nice setting for the vision quest. Similar rituals are practiced in India by people who claim to know the techniques but its difficult to say how many of them are authentic.

Each of us, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives, and their reactions in turn affect others As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain. Your thoughts and actions are like stones dropped into still waters, causing ripples to spread and expand as they move outward.. I hope that I can send a few ripples out via the web of life, as we each of us weave the threads together... Welcome to my Sanctuary of Peace and Love... May we each spread our Lights around our World....Sue Dreamwalker
