Where I dwell.. In Peace..

Hills of Derbyshire Peak

Hills of Derbyshire Peak

I enjoyed reconnecting to the place I grew up in. The Derbyshire Peak District. on May Day. Even though I have now lived away from this beautiful place for more years than I lived there, I still consider it home.

We had a wonderful Lunch at an old haunt of ours called the Barrel Inn..

Barrel Inn

Barrel Inn

This old pub is dated from 1597, it often gets cut off in the snow pictures Here  And I would roam the hills as a child with no thoughts of the dangers as there are today.  Below is a poem I wrote a while ago, but I thought it went well with the photo’s I have taken recently.. I hope you enjoy..

Peace it the place I dwell..

Up in the mountains… casting a spell

Of tranquil bliss, where Eagles soar

Away from man’s roar..

The Hills around where I grew up.

The Hills around where I grew up, the view from the Barrel Inn

Peace is the heart of natures Bliss

A rivers tears and dewdrop kiss

A leaf that floats across the sky

The smell of Earth, I ask her why

Wild Primroses

Wild Primroses

I feel her lonely heartbeat score…

I close my eyes……I feel Peace.. And More…

Peace is the quiet breath in early morn

When one opens your eyes to early dawn

Spring Lambs

Spring Lambs

When shadows no longer hold the dark

But when Peace is filled in Dawns red Heart..

Listen to the song of early light

When birds rise bringing their delight

Into a Day they worry not how to survive

But they Sing their joy as on wings they dive

Peace is the closed eyelids of a babies sleep

A mother’s love in whose arms she keeps

them tight and safe within slumbered dreams

I close my eyes…. I feel Peace … And More….

Bamford Wier

Bamford Wier A Painting of Mine.

Peace is the sweep of artists brush

As colours create the mountain hush

As clouds roll by on heavens sky

Peace is the shooting star that falls from high

But the best of these is as you close your eyes

As you hear the silence of your inward sighs

Listen now to the Peace within

as your mind is emptied of cutter and din

For I close my eyes ….

I feel Peace….

And More……………………..

Yes this place and the surrounding villages are embedded firmly into my heart Linda.. I would like one day to return to live, but the properties are so expensive.. That is why we had to move when we first got married.. Not enough homes and far too expensive.. Many cottages now being bought up by the elite for holiday second homes.. Sad.. For at one time I could name every single person and family in our village.. Now they are full of strangers who many only come at weekends.. .. Thank you about my painting, this too is in Derbyshire.. I did it from a postcard I bought.

Bless you Brad.. Yes I grew up a country bumpkin I am sure.. learning early on from my Granddad and Father how to grow our own food, and foraging for wild berries, nuts, and mushrooms… Our main meal of the week would be rabbit which my dad would catch.. ( I couldn’t eat a rabbit today ) but without that times were pretty lean for a family of 7. We were never indoors.. always outside. Helping the local farmer, Dad would also do stone walling in his spare time away from the Limestone Quarry.. Many thanks Brad for you lovely comment.. 🙂

Beautiful writing, and there is a this piece of your poem that reflects a discussion I had earlier yesterday with a friend “Peace is the sweep of artists brush” ~ artists enjoy a piece of life that requires peace, which is why it is such an important part of life and the world today. Enjoy the coming week Sue.

Thank you Dalo.. Painting was a life saver for me in the 90’s when I had a nervous breakdown.. By concentrating upon my art again during that time.. When I couldn’t keep a limb still.. due to my nerves being shot.. It calmed me, took me to another place.. And so even now when I feel stress getting too much as I take on board too much of the world.. I retreat back to my canvas and paints.. and just absorb once again that ‘Peace’ which with each brush stroke calms from the inside out. 🙂
Thank you Dalo.. I know I shall enjoy every minute of this coming week. 🙂

Very nostalgic indeed, such beauty and with lovely history behind each such place, the visit is something very special.
    These lines sums it all;
Peace is the heart of natures Bliss

A rivers tears and dewdrop kiss

A leaf that floats across the sky

The smell of Earth, I ask her why

    Loved this lines.

Thank you Nihar.. Your compliments are so very much appreciated.. I am so blessed in so many ways.. sometimes its not until you see all of this beauty that you realise how blessed .. For so many do not see what is right beneath their feet.. And I am so lucky to have been brought up within such countryside.. I think that is why my love of open spaces, trees, woodland and Nature is part of me.. Its where I always feel connected and where I feel I belong. _/\_

    Hi Sue,
I have a lot of catching up here to do! Please forgive me if I am unable to catch up…
Received many warm fuzzies from this poem and the beautiful pictures. I will continue to enjoy your photos (as i have still not quite figured out how to post mine very well). I’m still experiencing the enchantment of the fairies from your images (and around here) – and I wonder if you have any new paintings…

My favorite line is this, “Peace is the quiet breath in early morn.” Thank you for your lovely post. Indeed, it is so peaceful… ❤ _/1\_

Please do not worry over catching up.. I know I try it so often to catch all the many posts on blogs I love, and fail often in my attempts, and have learnt now not to stress myself if I miss posts.. But try to keep up with those who make the efforts to comment.. I am pleased so very pleased that the enchanting fairies are keeping their magic alive around and about you 🙂 The Painting on this post is one of mine, but its not new… The brushes may come out tomorrow when I have all day to please myself.. As its raining and windy here today.. and has given the same for tomorrow I think.. so absorbing myself in some art will keep me out of mischief!
Yes the early morning is always so peaceful especially just as the birds awake.. and greet the day.. Sending love and blessings and thank you Ka for your most welcome visit. ❤ Love Sue

What a lovely place to have grown up. It explains a lot of how you came to care so much for nature. I can only imagine what it would be like to visit places such as that inn that have so much history. The US is still such a young country and while there are some old buildings, nothing with the history and years that you see.

The tranquil green pastures in the pictures somehow seem to speak of the peace you carry in your own heart dear Sue:) Your post reminded me of my once upon a time home. I went back to visit about 3 years ago. As I stood facing the abandoned brick and mortar, I could hear voices and see little faces running around even years later. Much like you, I find that the heart still somewhat remains rooted in the landscape that made up our tender formative years. I hope you have a beautiful weekend. Hugs!
