Hanging by a Thread

The world Hanging by a Thread

Life hangs on a thread in the web we weave

Open up your eyes do not be deceived

Our World, our Rock, our Ocean of Life

Is in dire need, facing great strife

~~

Look around you, can you not see?

The pollution, the extinctions, it’s not just me

Who cries for the Forests, the Oceans, and Birds

And laments for the wild beasts long lost herds

~~

Look Up! Be aware, please wake up

Stop burying your heads in your coffee cups

It’s time to STOP! Take stock and account

For our actions of choice is paramount

~~

We worried about ‘The End’ in 2012

We have witnessed nothing yet as we destroy ourselves

Fukushima a time-bomb ticking

The calendar for the future, is our conscience pricking?

~~

What mess are we leaving our Children to come?

Who would have thought Man could be so dumb

His desire of Greed will be the end of the line

As his species too will shrivel and decline.

~~

What goes around comes around, So True

Do you think this Cycle does not apply to you?

Well listen well and think on this

As the Oceans Boil and the Mountains Hiss

~~

Because all is a cycle and all do connect

What we do unto others the World too reflects

So clean up your act, conserve and retrain

The way that you live, honour your domain

~~

Pick up your litter, recycle your waste

Honour our Mother-Gaia awaits

Show her respect; get rid of your sprays

Lengthen your lives by altering your ways

~~

The scales now tip as we hang by a thread

Please heed my words of what I’ve just said

The time is right NOW! You can no longer ignore

That Nature’s Power will devour Man’s flaws

~~

He thinks he’s so mighty, he travels in Space

Yet he destroys his own planet and the Human Race

Nature is patient, and Nature will renew

The poison man brought that killed him off too

~~

And the Cycle begins for another Billion years

As the Earth starts anew forgetting Mans tears

Is this what you want, Is this what you seek?

Then be responsible for your actions

OR THE FUTURE IS BLEAK!

While I try to remain positive, sometimes you have to shout out at the world to wake up to what we are doing to ourselves,

Fukushima has been on my mind recently and with good reason. as the Government in the U.K. gave permission for the go ahead of building of a Massive Nuclear Plant in Hinkley Point. Protests are underway!and they have my support.

My poem speaks my Heart.

Wake Up People and help wake up your neighbours to what we are doing to our Planet of Choice!

Humankind has disturbed all nature and wastes more each day than Earth can renew. Even if everyone did everything they could to correct all mistakes many years even decades would be needed for multiple positive effects to take place.
However, we must “start” the voyage of renewal for anything to happen at all!

Sue, your poem was both beautiful and tragic. Thank you so much for sharing that.

I’ve been out of the UK for too long now to really understand what’s taking place at Hinkley Point. But would like to draw you and your readers attention to a recent essay from Patrice Ayme, see here http://patriceayme.wordpress.com/2013/11/16/nuclear-salvation/ in which Patrice offers the logical argument that if our energy demands are not to be met by nuclear, then we will never shake off our use of carbon-based fuels, with all the implications therein.

Thank you Paul for your contribution, I always look forward to your comments.. But on reading your friends post about Nuclear Salvation I have to say I disagree with their own opinions, even though its a very well researched Post.. To quote Patrice Ayme

Continuing hysteria against nuclear power makes humanity’s ability to avoid dangerous changes in the biosphere caused by CO2 impossible. Why? Because it deprives humanity of the only new energy source developed by humanity in the last 100 years.

I do not think we are being Hysterical in our knowledge that Radiation leaks KILL,,, And I take the comment also in a further passage

The fact is, civil nuclear energy killed, over the years, much fewer people than, say, skiing. Whereas the atmosphere that fossil fuels creates kills millions.

Directly no the deaths attributed to nuclear power accidents may not on the surface seem to kill as many as those skiing!.. But then if you see the facts upon the second video, the total effects of Radiation are hidden Killers.. We all know Cancers are on the increase.. If Fukushima blows! we all will be affected.. As it is the oceans are being so badly polluted, the fish are already affected in the food chain..
So While I respect Patrice’s opinion and yours Paul.. I beg to differ on this one.. I will never be convinced Nuclear is safe when we do not know how to contain or depose of its deadly waste products .. Bury them.. IN OUR LIVING EARTH! How long will they be safe for??? Sorry but this one I am passionate on.. And I know I am not in the same league as your knowledgeable friend.. But I know this planet has heated up and cooled down on many occasions and is not ALL due to the fossil fuels as other elements are in the mix which I will not go on about here..
We have to see that the powers that be who control those Big Energy companies all over the world do not want us to discover cheaper alternatives its not in their interests too. And I am sure you will come back with more facts for me.. thats fines also, As this is what opinions are all about.. We each have one to share.. And I thank you for sharing yours here with us..
Its good to get our teeth into something we feel passionate about.. And for me its about the existence of Planet Earth and Mankind.. As I know The Earth is your passion too..
We do not hold the answers Paul we just keep trying to understand how foolish we can be.. And for me Nuclear Power is not the common sense approach for an answer…
Blessings to you and Jean.. Sue xox

    Hi Sue! 🙂

Lovely poem – and VERY true! 😦

Fukushima keeps sliding off the Radar which is odd given it is a MAJOR calamity which will take a century to correct!!! 😦

Yes they are ignoring the risks and are building a nuclear power plant here in the UK again, with the risks inherent in nuclear power!

I had some daft ( Idiots ) say to me we needn’t worry because it could never happen here!

I had to point out that in 1957 WIndscale ‘B’ caught fire after political interference because the PM wanted England to be a nuclear power and get access to the Americans Hydrogen Bomb secrets, so demanded more fissile material for a bigger nuclear bomb!!!

Needless to say the heroes who saved the lives of millions were blamed for the accident and no follow-up research was made into the effects of the fallout from the accident, they just dumped six weeks worth of milk down the drain as if that was enough!!!

An unrelated research survey found that thyroid cancers in the South of the country went up 400% in the years after the accident.

The governments response to this horror?

They changed the name of the facility to Sellafield…

    Love and hugs! 🙂

Hi Prenin 🙂 I hope you don’t mind me sticking my tenpence worth in as it were 😉 Fukushima and nuclear power is something I have been dealing with for a long time, mostly on twitter these days, but in re to your comment above, I recently read a comment from some obviously very naive individual (being kind here;) ) to the effect that N-disasters such as Fukushima and Chernobyl could not possibly happen here in UK where N-power is perfectly safe….(???) as we don’t build them on faultlines (Japan) and they’re new and modern and safe unlike Chernobyl…!!!!! Really??!!! The ignorance of humanity never ceases to astound! Strikes the fear of God into the bravest of hearts don’t you think?!!!

Stick your ten pennyworth in whenever you wish!!! 🙂

Yeah I have to admit I despair at the way people don’t seem to grasp the concept of just how dangerous nuclear power is. 😦

Nuclear power stations are intended to produce weapons grade material, the generation of electricity is just a by-product.

Why else are the Powers That Be so desperate to stop Iran using civilian nuclear power?

It’s only a short step to yet another country like Pakistan to gain nuclear weapons which will be dangerously unsafe as the Middle Eastern countries are notoriously unstable and such weapons could fall into hostile hands!!!

Unfortunately we’re facing the danger of the Nuclear Genii getting out of the bottle and it is only a step from proliferation to weapons being used by terrorists.

Meanwhile we are expecting other countries and foreign businesses to build our next generation of nuclear power plants with no clear idea of what they are going to construct!

If it is a Pressurised Water Reactor like Three Mile Island was, then we are going to be at significant risk.

PWR’s were designed to power nuclear submarines and were scaled up for civilian use, increasing the danger of an accident.

We’re a small island and if we have another nuclear accident here in the UK then the result will be catastrophic.

Renewable power sources are the only way to go, but the government needs weapons grade material, so nuclear power plants are being built… 😦

        Love and hugs!

        Hi Sue! 🙂

Yes, my language does tend to get a little ripe – thanks for correcting it! 🙂

Wolfy did mention Chernobyl though and I forgot an important point!

The reactors at Chernobyl are graphite moderated reactors and, as we found out, hot graphite and hot water don’t mix, plus graphite stores heat and expands, then let’s the heat go spontaneously – not something you want to be around when it happens!!!

What scares me is that it took until 2000 or so to shut down the other three after a series of accidents and fires!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_Nuclear_Power_Plant for the full story! 😦

Anyone who doesn’t learn from the lessons of the past are condemned to repeat them and our government is set to repeat them regardless of the lessons learned…

        God Help Us…

        Love and hugs!

So far as our complacency and over confidence re nuclear power/energy goes yes we are hanging on by a thread! A highly radio-active one!!! Nice to see someone else drawing attention to Fukushima. The thing is it’s not only the reactor itself in jeapordy and being brushed under the carpet along with the environmental issues attached to it. It’s the forgotten, displaced resident too, many of whom are now being told they will never be able to return home because of the radiation levels. Many are still living in shelters all this time on, forgotten by the rest of the world and often shunned by their own society who fear the radiation and fear these displaced people will contaminate them. They suffer depression and become suicidal and feel, rightly forgotten by the rest of us. The legacy of this N-disaster is far longer lasting in terms of human suffering than anyone cares to think about. And this is wrong. I focus on Japan N-disaster mostly on twitter now, where there are l’ike-minded people and I get to hear what companies in the industry have to say too. Sadly anything we post on the subject here is a mere drop in the radio-active ocean and is lost in the seas of ‘I don’t really care because it’s a million miles away from me and there are other things closer to home to focus on…” For now. Until the potential N-disaster waiting to happen on our own doorstep…or worse…. Thanks for highlighting this issue!

Wofie, thank you dear friend, I know you highlighted this right from the very beginning and have kept us informed ever since on the forgotten plight of those caught up within this terrible disaster.. Including highlighting how all the pets too were just left to fend for themselves and we not permitted to be evacuated with their families.. And how families are still in make-shift accommodation. Many are showing signs of nose bleeds, but as this condition has a taboo on it many do not come forward even to say they are suffering this symptom. Loved your comment… Thank you .. Your poem speaks what my heart thinks, too. Prior to the 20th century, there was nary a piece of plastic in the ocean. Now, it’s cluttered and utterly littered. I shudder to think that we won’t learn. But we’re plowing forward and more people are fueled by greed than ever before….
Sigh. My only hope is that the Indigos – the people among us awakened to the 3rd eye will begin to sing in unison and stand together to form an alliance that will save the world…. (sorry…I’ve been working on my novel so much lately and my comment sounds like something out of a sci-fi novel or something…)

I don’t know what the facts are about the relative harm to the earth of different forms of energy. I recently saw a news report that nuclear energy, a new and safer version, is in fact better for the planet than the coal and oil we burn. But I don’t know the facts. I do think nuclear energy is scary, and we have created quite a few catastrophes with it. We all can and should try to minimize the amount of energy we use, but I don’t think we’ll ever return to the days of horse and buggies and washing our clothes in a tub. Even the earliest of peoples used fuel in the form of burning wood. We have to convince the decision-makers to exert good judgement, keeping the welfare of our planet in mind.

Lovely to have you visit Christine, and to be honest I wished I did not know about the Facts of Nuclear Energy, but on educating myself, I find it quite scary the facts we are not being told. I hope you were able to spend the 10 minutes watching the bottom video on this post.. Here you will learn some facts of what is happening in the current tragic situation in Fukushima which bad as the situation is now, if it goes pear-shaped even further will be catastrophic for the rest of the world .. And the USA will be in line for massive Radiation doses as will the rest of the world… No one will escape! .. And While I do not wish to contribute to Fear, I feel We should all start opening our eyes as to alternative fuel, and there are many different methods other than nuclear..
I so agree with your comment that we have to convince the decision makers to exert good judgement… So far they have been more than lacking! in keeping our planets welfare in mind….
I hope you are all well over there in the states I know some pretty bad storms have reeked havoc with fatalities in various parts… So my thoughts are with you and All over there

You know what tugs at my heart are the animals that are suffering in the ocean and on land…:( Anyway, great post and keep up your awesome writing to make us all aware of what really matters in life. I’m glad you’re feeling better, too! Hugs! xo

That was a beautifully powerful poem Sue..sad and true as well.
Sometimes I wonder, all these people who want all this wealth and power with no regard to what they are doing to this earth…aren’t they afraid that before their time is up…they will have to face it’s consequence?

I doubt Shree that they think of their actions as having consequence.. because they are all about themselves, Greed, Profit, plundering earth’s resources to them is about extracting that which gives them their lavish life styles, They do not think along the same lines as you and I,
We know we are all of us connected.. and what I do affects another.. Sad so sad, but true…

A very emotional writing Sue,a plea to all mankind to unite and understand what mankind is unfolding, for universal change Sue, I believe it can only come about by a concerted effort of all nations.
I hope your words echo around the globe.

Yes, mankind seems to be poised for self-destruction with not thinking what kind of disasters can occur. Nuclear power plant says it all. Japan is in a high earthquake zone. Nuclear power plants are built all over the world and still, countries try to sell them to other countries it is scary. What happens when these plants age and are no longer viable or when they spring a leak as there are two in the USA. As of 2018, it is said that some of the Pacific ocean is dead. I think with a massive occurrence in Fukushima no one knew how to clean up the mess and it is a big project. I did hear that some countries wanted to help to contain the nuclear accident but Japan was reticent to allow foreign help. It is a sad disaster and people are still complacent that the poisoning of our ocean is contained only to Japan. In 2018 they are finding fish with tumors on them and it has been reported that there are births with deformed babies. Yet, Fukushima is hardly in the news. I don’t know what real crisis will awaken mankind to steer them on a spiritual journey from the one they are on now. Time will tell,

Yes Fukushima was spewing out contaminated waste into the ocean for longer than the News reported it. And its still not contained.
People will be suffering for generations who lived near, and who still are eating the crops in surrounding areas. I remember listening to a panel of experts who said it wouldn’t be until 15 to 20 years later that the damage of what occurred would start to appear in cancers etc.
The food chain will all have a knock on effect.
As for what it will take to steer mankind? I try not to think of it.. Because I feel its on the cards to happen for we most certainly are not listening or changing our ways.
Many thanks for following up the links, I had forgotten about this poem.. Maybe its time to resurrect it in the near future. 😀

Each of us, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives, and their reactions in turn affect others As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain. Your thoughts and actions are like stones dropped into still waters, causing ripples to spread and expand as they move outward.. I hope that I can send a few ripples out via the web of life, as we each of us weave the threads together... Welcome to my Sanctuary of Peace and Love... May we each spread our Lights around our World....Sue Dreamwalker
