Now All Hallows Eve I have wrote about before on my blog where you can find out all the facts how Halloween came into being, and about Bonfire Night in the U.K. and how Halloween was developed from the Celtic Feast of Samhain..
To read more about its origins and how back in history Celts acknowledged the beginning and the ending of all things as they saw the leaves fall from the trees and the coming of the winter. It was a time when they turned to their Goddesses and Gods, seeking to understand the cycles of life and death..Due to the facts that many people died in the winter, and the people were so dependent on the natural world, they believed that this day the boundary between the living world and the dead opened up gateways. To find out more of this History lesson, I wrote in full about in in 2009 on this blog. and you can read more HERE ..
These days we have all fell into the trap of commercialism as the shops are full of Halloween products from Costumes, masks, treats and baubles and bangles that tweet and whistle at us to buy buy buy! Halloween like every other Holiday has become Big Business as we get sucked in deeper still…
Now don’t get me wrong, Some may call me a bit of witch myself LOL as I have been known to speak to the Dead!.. But I won’t go there today.
I enjoy the children coming around showing off their various costumes and scary boooos and have my dish of treats at the ready.
Today I share with you not the spooky Halloween, but the joys of sharing time with my Granddaughter not yet 3, who loves nothing better to stand on a chair in the kitchen with me and bake… So Yesterday we had fun in carving out a Pumpkin, now this was a first for me, and she got stuck into the slimy middle and extracted the seeds. The pumpkin will be lit outside for the Big Day..
We then enjoyed making a little house for some peg dolls, The house was made from a cardboard box, she insisted on doing it all herself, except for me cutting out windows and doors, she dressed her peg dolls in cut out pieces of paper and spent most of the afternoon playing with her new friends. She gave them names and took them home, Informing her Mum and Dad she was going to take them to bed to sleep in her room. She made them a table and chair and bed to lie in…
Sorry this was the only photo I took which isn’t very clear an Ariel view
Imagination is such a wonderful tool and we can get so much enjoyment out of the simple things in life..
Today I carried on the theme of Halloween as I had saved most of the pumpkin, and roasted in the oven to split it between making some Pumpkin Muffins.. The muffins could have done with more spices, these I followed the recipe to the letter and they contain fresh Rosemary but omitted the seeds. I should have followed my instincts and added some cinnamon or mixed spices The idea of the pumpkin Smoothie was set off by my visiting a new follower who posted a recipe on her blog called A Sincere Soul’s Life Experiences I adapted the recipe adding Banana and Almond Milk. I will share with you on my recipe pages when I get more time to post it.
I hope you all enjoy what ever you have planned for your various celebrations.
Take care and thank you for taking the time to read and comment

She is absolutely adorable, Sue, and what memories you have made, too! With our daughter away in college and our son in his first year (still at home, though), it just seems like things aren’t the same. They’re okay, but I just bought candy tonight, my son put some webs up and hubby put out our decorations last week. However, this is the first year without a carved pumpkin! None of us felt like doing it, well, so be it! We’re partially in the “spirit.” Haha! Anyway, have a fun evening! xoxo Oh, and I would love one of those pumpkin muffins! I love anything pumpkin and have already made several pumpkin bread loaves…:)

Those bread loaves sound delicious Lauren, and I can imagine your house feels half empty, its a strange feeling when they move out, Loved your ‘Partially in the spirit’ lol comment hehe… The muffins were to me a little bland so if you make them I would add some spices to liven them up 🙂 Thankyou for dropping by, love to hear from you 🙂 xox

Love the pix of your beautiful sweet Granddaughter!! So precious 🙂 Glad she is enjoying the festivities. It’s the togetherness that counts as you so well taught her that day. She is lucky to have you. The peg people were cute as can be. Who needs expensive toys when you have a box, some clothes pegs and some scissors? Simple but MEANINGFUL!!!! Good job DW….Much love…VK

Peg people. I seem to recall those now…my, my, where do the years go? Directly behind me I reckon
I new one way or the other you’d put up that muffin recipe…thank you.

Thank you Deb, though I think I may have misled you upon her name, The ariel view I was speaking of was a birds eye view of her peg dolls, I think the spell checker put the capital letter there.. Although Ariel would suit her as she flys high all the time LOL… Thank you so much for your comments, sometimes those simple things get played with the most.. And I too remember my peg dolls 🙂 Love and Hugs back dear Deb.. xoxoxox

Happy Halloween to you! HUGS! As for me, we don’t have kiddos (yet…I’m still wondering if one or two will “choose” me, haha) and so Halloweens are usually quiet for us in the country. However, I do plan on having a Halloween candle lighting and small ceremony with my husby this evening.
I am also celebrating Day of the Dead with my school and we’ve been preparing for it for weeks. So I will dress up as a “calaca” (skeleton with a skull face) and dance next Wednesday (though the official day of celebration is tomorrow). It’s a Mexican holiday that’s gaining popularity in the US but my family is part Mexican so I’ve always loved this holiday…
Also, such cool facts about Halloween!

Cyndi, I hope your evening in candlelight was beautiful 🙂 and yes I have heard of the Mexican celebration, and as for children picking you in the future!as a parent! Well I think the children you teach are very lucky, How cool to have such a wonderful teacher as you must be…. No I think you chose not just to have one or two in your life.. But hundreds 🙂 What a gift you must bring them all .. 🙂

Haha, yes, hundreds of kiddos. Sometimes I wonder if the Universe is just going to keep it that way. Save for these dreams of “twins” I keep having…but that’s a whole ‘nother can of worms. 😉
As for the Halloween ceremony – yes! I love the symbolism of it. See, I didn’t grow up doing this, but now that I’ve invited this kind of centering into my life and I’m sort of creating my own philosophy of spirituality, I feel like I’m on a powerful path. We used sage to banish negative energy and sweetgrass to invite positive energy…it was powerful.
We also did Dyads. Have you heard of those? I didn’t until I started working at this new school. It’s a powerful listening exercise. 🙂
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Many happy hugs and blessings. xo

Sue.
I just read your 2009 post and I loved it! You know I thought the modern festivities were only celebrated in the US until I met all my international WP friends who are very Halloween-aware! Of course capitalism is the most popular belief system in my country and this holiday is very profitable.
This is very cool – Some Wiccan and Pagan traditions celebrate Samhain at 15 degrees Scorpio – the exact midpoint astrologically between the 0 degrees Libra Fall Equinox and the 0 degrees Capricorn of the Winter Solstice – taken from http://brigidshearth.org/seasonal_hearth.html
BTW, my birthday is very close to 15 degrees Scorpio, it is 14 21 Scorpio, so apparently my birthday sometimes coincides with Samhain! I am going to do a card reading today to make this season and give it my own spin, as a time to see behind the veil!
love, Linda

I am pleased you enjoyed the Link to my 2009 posting Linda, and thank you also for your link.. I can see you are very into Birth charts, me, well they passed me by 🙂 I am reliant on my mediumistic skills, mostly clairsentiant.. My path is now changing yet again, as I have decided after 20 odd years to give up my Spiritual Church service platform work… My last service will be this coming Sunday the 3rd.. So you could say the cycle has come full circle as I started my platform work in the early 90’s serving Spiritual venues with demonstrations .And until just recounting this to you hadn’t realised how this is so significant to the Changes within the Retrograde etc.. Very Interesting 🙂

Awww…your granddaughter is absolutely preciously cute!!! I just wanna pinch her cheeks!! 😀
Thank you for sharing your day with us 🙂 I unfortunately have to work and Halloween is not a very big thing here, the Hungry Ghost Festival on the other hand is pretty big within the Chinese community.
I understand the frustrations about how so many wonderful cultural and spiritual days have been hijacked by materialistic big business who seem to want to hedge out any and all true meaning of a festival and claim it as “their own”. It would be really nice though if along with the fun stuff, for the kids…there is also an introduction to the rich history about such festivals to the kids…you know? Like a win-win situation for all….
