Blog Blesstival – Create a Blessing Wave to Start the New Year
Where there are more places to uptake.. There are so many Blessings we take for granted.. I have contributed by writing a poem I chose today to post my entry as I would have been my Dad’s Earth Birthday..
Thank you to both my Parents- You taught me very different Lessons in Life But each a treasured Blessing.
Happy Earth Birthday Dad..
Blessings
If I were to count my blessings and list them one by one
My list would stretch forever for it would take that long
So I’ll start with just a few of the important things to me
And hope you don’t get bored with the list below you’ll see.
~
I need to go right back to the time when I was just a girl
To all that I was taught that in later life unfurled
I need to thank my Dad, and yes my Mother too
For without my childhood growing, I would not love as I do
~
My Dad taught me about Nature’s Garden and how to Love and Respect
My Mother taught me independence and the things we often neglect.
Like showing appreciation to the ones we hold most dear
And not taking life for granted through arguments and tears
~
I’m thankful for the Blessings that at the time I lacked
For they were my greatest teachers in hindsight looking back
They moulded me for life, they made me reach in deep
So I can now share the Blessings that surround me that I keep
~
The most important Blessing that I learnt from my past
Was to find my inner strength, and to love myself at last
Some are not so lucky, and are lost in pain and blame
I’m blessed to release those lessons, embracing life’s great flame
~
So my greatest gift is LOVE, in all its shapes and guises
It’s what we each seek, and I’m lucky to have found its prizes
And if we share more Love, from which we all were born
Just maybe our hearts could heal-A world that seems so torn.
~

Hi Sue,
This is a wonderful way of sharing your blessings, which are often overlooked and taken for granted…a happy childhood, loving and caring parents – not all remember them so fondly. The values we imbibe and the resilience we develop due to the tribulations that life unfolds are the unseen blessings. You have summed them so well! I also admire the lyrical quality of your poetry.
I agree with you Sue, the list can be very long. Not without any reason somebody emphasised – ‘count your blessings,’ happiness steps in spontaneously.
Thanks for sharing the ‘Blesstival.’ Stay blessed. xoxo 🙂

Thanks for sharing your beautiful poem, Sue.
I especially resonate with these lines:
“The most important Blessing that I learnt from my past
Was to find my inner strength, and to love myself at last”
That is probably true for most who have experienced a lot of problems. And life’s hardships are much easier to bear when we know it is a blessing in disguise.
Love,
Karin

Agreed Karin, and you see exactly how these can be turned around as blessings in disguise 🙂 Knowing we are growing from them and have learnt from them and have let the go… Brings a bigger smile to my face .. Sue, what a profound tribute, our parents are always our perennial source of inspiration and keeps our aspiration high and flying.
I have always cherished the values and the teaching that have been given to me by my parents. I couldn’t have agreed more, I couldn’t have said it better…yes, today when we look back and reflect on the constant guiding and molding that was imparted to us and how we resisted and fought every such persistence by our parents…many times we as parents give up and loss the patience to persist and make our children behave the way that matters and can make the person that the society emulates. Success is not within everybody’s boundary, it matters, happiness is, but values and characters are something one can always employ to make all the difference in life.
Indeed the greatest gift shall always remain the words of ‘love’ and ‘gratitude’…it gets swindled and corrupted with time and age which we need to always be aware of and learn the art of caring and sharing…

One very important lesson I learnt from my Dad was to downplay the negative snd accentuate all that is positive in one’s life. Learning what is needed to create a loving being does not always mean we have loving caring parents.. Sad when we do not get the luxury of such love.. my Dad made up for what my mother lacked.. of that I am always grateful for 🙂 But even her distance and detachment created who I am.. So yes, I chose them for my parents at birth, and both gave me what I needed to grow 🙂

Sue, your long list of people who LOVE you is just like it is over at Petals!!! Whew!! To live with Gratitude is such a Blessing for in doing so it changes your whole perspective. Lately I have been thinking I have SO much to be thankful for, much of which I take for granted. My Journey has been so twisted and bumpy yet here I am today knowing LOVE, starting with me. Talk about miracles! I ask all the time how is it possible to know Love when I wasn’t shown Love as a child? God is merciful, my friend, and when you seek, you never are disappointed. Bless you for this glorious post!!! It is such an honor to know you. Keep on shining your Beautiful Light!! Love, Amy ❤

Sometimes dear Amy, the simple fact of us not always being felt loved, helps us then become more aware of how important LOVE is to share.. And although it may have taken us both a while to learn to Love and nurture ourselves.. We now fully understand the lessons of those past moments of heartache and feelings of unworthiness.. For they shaped us into who we have become today.. And for that I shall always be eternally grateful for ..
As I am for your wonderful comment dear Amy.. when I know how precious your time is.. Love and Blessings.. Always.. Sue ❤

This poem reminds me, the need for gratitude even if for one small thing each day. Even if just for waking in the morning to the opportunity of a fresh start. Sue, every single time I come here you refresh my heart.
