Love on Ice..

The Canvas I started of a snowy scene. Canvas size 40cms x 29cms

Blank Canvas of white before me looms bare

As into the distance of mind I stare

My brush takes on colour as mountains arise

As storm clouds of grey sweep across the blue skies.

~

Soon two figures, then three are penned in

And before I know it emerge a family of Penguins

Cuddling up close, just as proud as can be

As Mother returns safe, from her fishing in the Sea

One Penguin complete and another beginning.

Dad was so proud as he looked after Son

In a winter so harsh as the world blocked the Sun

Resilient and steadfast his back to the storm

The colony of Emperors, protecting new-borns

~

Nature is Miraculous as the odds against you stack

As you shuffle on heels, taking turns at the back

Of circles so dense, they huddle to keep warm

Awaiting the time that their mates may return

Now both Adult Penguins are completed

From deep in the ocean, weeks turn into months

Braving all predators, Mothers come back looking plump

Baring their catch, they walk and they slide

It’s a miracle really, they find their mates left behind.

~

What joy in their cries from a distance so far

Reuniting in love as daylight replaces stars

A family together before they must part

When Dad takes his leave for his fishing must start

And so is the cycle in the struggle to survive

The Penguin stands tall in his efforts to thrive

So when you think your own life maybe rough

Just think of the Penguin, for their Life is Tough.

This appears darker than the rest of the photos simply because of the light in the room was fading at the time I took it without a flash. Also note, I altered the background to make them appear on a cliff of ice, with icebergs behind them.

~~~
The above art is part of a present for my sisters birthday soon.. She has overcome many obstacles in her Life and she also collects little Penguins.. I was not surprised to learn the meaning Penguins hold as a totem, given that she has overcome, cancer, and many other things during her lifetime. I am so proud of her and the inspiration she has given me.. She always calls me her ‘Mother’ for as children I would often find myself in that role.. For me she is the best possible sister anyone could have..
  And its ok as she doesn’t read my posts.. So the surprise will still be in place.
“The period of darkness that you’ve been experiencing is now ending. There is light at the end of this tunnel!”
-Penguin
The above quote and the interesting read about the Penguin meaning is very symbolic right now. So no wonder I was inspired to paint Penguins..
And the rest can be found about Penguins  meaning Here
Beyond that are all the things which you give such careful attention, and the subject you chose for your composition is …. well, did it choose you? It’s depth and adorableness…. dear penguins.       It chose me I think.. I was going to paint an arctic hare, then the thought of Penguins and followed by another thought as I know she loves them and has a few ornaments of them around her home. So there was no other choice but Penguins.. 🙂 It was only later a friend told me of their meaning and I later looked it up.. 🙂 and it all came together with the meaning.. 🙂 The Universe is always in charge.. 🙂
      Thank you Tom, yes the background didn’t sit right, and at first I thought I needed to add more smaller penguins in the background.. But after thinking about that, I knew it would detract from the family, So I sort to set them higher up as if they were on the edge of a piece of Ice .. 🙂 And I was happy with how it worked out.. ( though I did keep thinking, don’t go spoil it now ) lol ❤
    The penguin totem – oh, wow! I clicked over to see the meaning. Given the description you shared of your sister, I can see where penguins fit! Your watercolor is just so gorgeous. You really channel intuitive creativity and I look on with awe. You really are such a wise soul and I love, love, love reading your posts. I get such inspiration, feel such intuition, and learn many things about getting in touch with myself.
    It is because of your gentle words that I attended my first qigong class on Sunday. It was neat. I don’t know a lot about it, yet, but the qi (or chi) is so intriguing – moving the energy and de-stressing and sending out love – that’s all stuff I love to do anyways. 🙂 I think I’ll go again – there are three different gatherings/classes I want to try, so it might be just a bit before I return, but it was pretty neat. It’s fun how it’s so different from regular meditation and our teacher didn’t focus on breathing. But, still. Pulling energy from the earth…releasing stress to the clouds – I love it.
    And your beautiful poems. Your poems were also part of what inspired me to include a month of poetry writing.
    Oh, I’m just so glad to know you. Though we have never met, you are a great teacher. I am the grasshopper and I have learned so much!
    Sending you hugs! Thank you for sharing your talents and wisdom, sweet friend! xo
      Your comment, took my breath Cyndi, in a good way.. Oh my, how lovely of you to say I have inspired you this way.. The delight I feel is well, brought tears to my eyes. So happy you spent your first Qi Gong class and no the breathing comes later once you have learned some moves.. It is a great Stress Buster.. 🙂 And you have also created some lovely poems throughout your blog as I recall..
      I wish you would just step back and Look at yourself.. For you are also a great TEACHER, a wonderful ARTIST, and a great WRITER.. All of these gifts you too already have… You do yourself an injustice, by not seeing your own talents..
      I am nothing special.. WE ALL are special.. and when we embrace that specialness within each of us we embrace those creative parts to LOVE what we are doing, we each share our wisdom with one another..
      Thank you so much for you most complimentary Compliments.. 🙂 Much Love xxx ❤
        But it’s all true! Hehe. You are a great teacher and I have learned so many things from you. And, indeed, you have helped me to see my own light that I hope I can share with others.
        The fact that you recognize the three things that I know I am – a teacher, artist and writer – means so much to me. I really want to be all these things simultaneously to live the life I want to live. 🙂 I’m continually working on it. I admit: I struggle so much with my “day job” and reconciling that with wanting to be free from a schedule and then having the freedom to decide what I want to teach, write and draw on a particular day. That said, part of this intention project is to address just that. I hope to grow on my journey, of course, but also to grow in terms of my intuition, love, and hope to guide me (and hopefully others) on their journey. (And, of course, I think of the words of many masters: it’s not about your job, but your service to others that counts and deriving joy in all things you do – both novel and mundane.)
        And yes, I get so much inspiration from you, Sweet Sue! Your words, your poems and the symbolism you put into your work speak volumes to me. Honestly. I love your outlook, approach and all that you do to spread hope, peace and love. The vibrational energy that you have, well, I aspire to ride the same wavelength. 🙂 🙂
          What you do not realise dear Cyndi is that you already are riding that very same wave length.. You just do not SEE you as I and other may see you.. Which is no bad fault.. Just as I do not see ME as you see me.. LOL.. see what I mean..
          This is who we are.. And we work in our own ways, helping others discover who they are..
          We have not set ourselves up upon a pedestal like some others, who are always seeking recognition, and the lime light..
          And this is what brings me more hope for the world.. For it is such as we who with our intentions, and working upon ourselves, giving out love, understanding and ‘knowing’ following our intuitiveness, and leading others to follow theirs.. These are the threads which will change the world..
          Guru’s can guide us, but it is up to individuals to shape their own hearts..
          This is what you are now doing within your planed year of your intention project..
          You are nurturing, and shaping yourself for the much needed transformation that is coming, that we are all part of right now…
          And it is beautiful to watch you unfold, and grow, as you discover the beauty of your inner sanctum. That of your Soul..
          I the one honoured to be witness to being part of your journey
          In love and Light.. xxx Keep riding the Wave.. ❤ ❤ ❤
      Mich so lovely to see you, and I never touched my art for hummmmm, about 25 yrs after I got married.. As I too was too busy being a working full time and a Mum of two. 🙂 It was not until my breakdown in the 90’s I turned again to creating in watercolours, that I discovered again my love of painting and drawing.. It doesn’t dominate my life, I do it when the urge takes me.. I have to feel in the mood and want to paint.. The urge was strong with this painting lol.
      Many thanks for you kindness with the poem.. It came after the painting the other night as I woke up in the middle of the night ( which is where most of my poems come from ) and they trip off my pen so I know others are guiding my hand.. 🙂
      Many thanks Mich for the huge compliment… And you are right.. Its never too late for Anything if we put our minds to it.. ❤ ❤ ❤
    I love to see your painting evolving as your poem has told the story of the penguins. I’m sure your sister will love her special present. I hope she’s okay. Hugsxxx
      Yes she is fully recovered and a walking miracle.. 🙂 lol.. Thank you LG for asking.. She had a mastectomy aged 36. But she fought it, determined not to leave her four young children. xxx So yes, she is special.
    Oh my, Sue. What an incredible painting and artwork for your sister. It is so life-like, but most importantly, done with so much thought and love. Good to hear she doens’t read your posts so she will be pleasantly surprised. And maybe very, very touched even. Sorry to hear what she has gone through but at least she has you to lean on and very supportive company – which is what usually makes a difference and help us feel better.
    “The Penguin stands tall in his efforts to thrive” Beautiful line. Penguins are so tough. But from your artwork, I can see that they love very hard too ❤
    So beautiful Sue. The poetry compliments the process so well, too. Interesting correlation — My sister loves penguins as well, we have been each others’ mothers at different times in our lives because we lost our real mother when we were very young. And we both feel that the other is the “best sister we could ever have! Our birthdays are eight days apart in May. She’ll be coming to visit me over the Mother’s Day weekend so we can celebrate together.
Each of us, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives, and their reactions in turn affect others As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain. Your thoughts and actions are like stones dropped into still waters, causing ripples to spread and expand as they move outward.. I hope that I can send a few ripples out via the web of life, as we each of us weave the threads together... Welcome to my Sanctuary of Peace and Love... May we each spread our Lights around our World....Sue Dreamwalker
