Remember the knitting project I told you about?
I knitted away happily following the pattern which I had adapted slightly.. The back first then fronts and sleeves. Dipping into the separate balls of yarn which came within the same batch lot of dye lot number in one large bag. And as you knitter’s and those who crochet know, along with those of us who decorate and choose our wall paper, we need to ensure the dye-lot numbers are the same, or shading can take place. And my choice of Pink glitter wool was all the same batch number it was in the same bag..
Most rainy afternoons as the light began to fail I would knit happily away long into the evenings, often by lamp light each stitch lovingly placed from one needle to the next.
Everything progressing nicely along. All the panels knitted, I then start the rib to sew it all in place to the front panels.. I join the shoulders and knitted the collar edging and that was sewn in place around the neck.. And I think nearly there now, nearly finished as I put it down for the evening.
The next morning the Sunlight is bright so I and sit near the patio door as I happily threaded my yarn in the needle to sew up the side panels.. I thought I would admire my handy work as I laid it over my knee..
It was then my stomach plunged .. No way… as I looked at my masterpiece. One panel on the front had changed shade at yoke level.. I dove into my knitting bag pulling out the remaining yarn and pulling out to the paper sleeves which the yarn have been encased in.. Yes each number matched.. Yet all the remaining yarn was a darker shade.. Then I remembered I had changed my yarn ball as it had run out at that point. So it appears the yarn was not bagged correctly in a batch, that is the only conclusion as the back and front panels up to that point had been lighter.
But it’s no use pointing blame. A solution had to be found.. I didn’t have enough yarn left to redo both fronts, So how to make it match?..
Well there was only one thing I could think of; I would have to unpick the collar edging and the front panel rib of the side that was the same colour and unpick the rows back until it measured the same as the other side front where the shading had occurred and re-join the yarn there so both yolks matched in shade from the same point.
So below is the result.. You can see the shade change at the yoke.. And why did my knitting remind me of life lessons..
Well sometimes we work away not really taking notice of things until they go wrong.. And it’s no good us jumping up in arms shouting and apportioning blame. What’s done is done..
We have to find solutions to problems and work our way through them.. And yes sometimes it may seem like we are working backwards as we undo what work has already been done. But sometimes it’s necessary in order to find balance..
If we want things to be right sometimes we have to learn from our mistakes and without our mistakes we would never learn.
Wishing you all a beautiful weekend
~Sue~

I used small knitting needles Angie with 15 sts to start a 2 row rib I increased to 19 as I worked to below the arms, then decreased each side until I had 4 sts left on back, I made front with a V in it and reglan sleeves joining all at neck edge with stitches left on front one top of each sleeve .. It serves to roll down like a large collar or open up to put up as hood.. I should maybe take a picture then post it 🙂

“Thanks for giving it a try. You’re not flagged as spam by Akismet globally but it looks like you’ve been mistakenly flagged on that one site. I’m afraid we can’t unspam comments on an individual’s site so you’ll need to reach out to the author of that site and ask them to unspam your comment. I know you said she checked the spam folder already but she’ll need to have another look and unspam what she sees there. She can get in touch with us directly if she has any questions.”

Sue, all your friend has to do is put her wordpress blog address into the browser address bar at the top (whether she is using IE or chrome or whatever), with wp-admin at the end of it, that will take her to her dashboard to sign in and do as she wishes Like below, this is my dashboard address for my dashboard, it is the same for everyone…your address followed by wp-admin then just press enter.

Your knitting is beautiful Sue, I am now become quite adept at judging knitting, Ana has just completed a beautiful Dress and Bolero for our Granddaughter Rayen, the pattern is beautiful and I am informed on its progress quite regularly.
Cheers.

Perfect. I would tear the whole thing out and start anew. I like your plan to adjust. I don’t always have to start over to make something work….I work with what I have. Beautiful sweater, by the way.

Nobody ever learned anything from being perfect. I love the different colour on the yoke. It looks like you meant to do it ;). Seriously, I have learned SO much from my stuff ups and having to go back and figure out a way to fix them up that I am actually starting to see them as educational tools 😉

Haha.. thanks Fran.. Yes over the years I too have learnt many lessons.. From Many mistakes.. My sewing days of making dresses were often fraught with them.. Zips were always a struggle in the beginning invisible ones.. Then later on in my work days I ended up putting thousands of hidden zips in pockets of trainers and jackets.. 🙂 Lol…
I learnt a lot from those early mistakes 🙂

I love you so much, Sue! And I can actually feel the way you felt when you first noticed the difference. This is clearly a case, as it is most times, of the final outcome being better than what we originally envisioned. And to liken it to life in general…BRILLIANT!! Much love…many blessings ♡♡♡

Little things around us carry profound lessons Sue and we may consider ourselves wiser at this juncture of life yet life never ceases to remind that there is more…and much more to learn! I am glad you noticed before you had given the finishing touches to that lovely piece! Many thanks for sharing. 🙂 Love and blessings to both the knitter and the wearer. 🙂

Thank you Balroop.. yes when we wake up to life’s guideness we see many lessons are presented in many ways. The Signs are always there for us to read.. And it never fails to amaze me how often we are shown things this way.. When we take notice, and become aware All things are interconnected within the world..
Love and Huge hugs Balroop.. Thank you ❤ x

I love your sweater and your solution–it was brilliant.
Yes, if we’d just ‘simmer down’ as Little Cutie says and work out a solution how much easier much of our lives would be.
Love and hugs to you, my friend.

I think it is pretty as is! However, don’t depend on the fact that I can’t tell a difference in the color because my eyesight often leads me astray in project…I wish I could blame it on the light. I try working with contacts, then glasses, and then with nothing and I haven’t found a tried and true method; mostly depends on the medium I’m working with and distance my eyes are from the project.

What we perceive to be a calamity lol with the right handling can become something wonderful 🙂 Like your knitting! It may not have gone quite to plan but it looks lovely and now it’s your own unique design with the adjustments you had to make, so elegantly 🙂 Unplanned creativity in nature can be very beautiful too and this is often reflected in our own tumultuous lives. These little issues can help us step into a new form of uniqueness that we would never have known we had otherwise 🙂 Wolfie hugs xx
