I love the Things with Wings.
Once upon a time there lived a little Caterpillar who lived among the cabbages and weeds. All day long he’d munch and chew, munch and chew, as bigger and bigger he grew.
And each day as he watched the birds high in the sky, he thinks how wonderful it would be to have Wings and fly, and live high up with the tree instead of munching low to the ground beneath the Cabbages making no sound.
Then one day he had a fright, as birds did swoop and peck with beak his cabbage leaf to shake his feet.
His friend was munching by his side when all of a sudden in big surprise the one with Wings did grab him tight, and off she flew with him out of sight.
Oh how he wished he had wings!
He munched his way among the leaves getting wet and cold with breeze, until one day he’d ate his Fill, and thought to himself he’d catch a chill.
He saw the birds all flying south and wished once more with yawning mouth that he too had wings.
And so when days did grow too cold, he spun a blanket around him to hold him suspended from wind and hail, He chose a spot in a sheltered Vale, and as he snuggles down to sleep he dreamt of birds with wings so sleek
At last from slumber he awoke as Sun rays did shine with heat to stroke his back as he did stretch his legs and he pushed his way out of his Bed.
He’s hung suspended upon his thread and waited until the sun shone on his head.
He stretched himself in all directions, and jumped with joy at his inspections, for no longer was he green and fat but he’d grown Wings now Fancy that..
He flew with Joy and lots of pride no longer now did he have to hide. He flapped his wings and fluttered High with wings did swoop and dive.
No longer was his world so dim for he was free to fly on whim.
He settled high on blossoms branch, oh how he loved his wings and danced.
At last I’ve got my wings to fly..
At last I’m flying In the Sky ..
For I am A Butterfly!

Beautiful Sue. I’ll spend the winter munching on my leaf, spinning my web, and in the spring I’ll launch myself as a butterfly. For now, I will rejoice in the colors of Autumn, the brilliant colors before Mother Earth sleeps and regroups for another year of whatever She has planned. I hope we haven’t murdered her by then.

Once upon a time there lived a Lady who nicely collaborated with nature and could fly high when she spread her wings! From high up She loved to watch all the grandeur of nature and the preternatural process of the evolving life …
Dear friend Sue,you’ve written not just a simple poem but an epic poem mingled with lyricism.Gratifying all the phases and faces of life, even the graceless midway towards the final stage and to the exquisite metamorphosis.Miraculous processes and phases, indeed. There are two competely different worlds out there and as you stated with your metaphors and your similes,we can acquire strong wings if we want to fly high too.”Transcend and change your perceptions that hold you in negative patterns … ” That’s what the Lady said … And concluded prompting us All to Live in Love. You know, dear Sue,there is a silver moon shining above my garden, and I’m thinking of you and how blessed you are!Take care sweet friend ~ Love & many crepuscular hugs wrapped up with moonlight 🙂 ❤ xxx

Sue, I loved your butterfly story. I have saved it to share with the littlest granddaughter who is amazed right now by both caterpillars and butterflies. Whenever she sees either one she calls out to anyone near, I know what a caterpillar turns into. Then announces “Butterflies!” It’s adorable no matter how many times I hear it. 🙂
I only spotted one monarch butterfly this season and none of the caterpillars. My milkweed plants were a casualty of the rainy June we had so I will have to try again next summer and hope to see a few.

Sue this is indeed a very profound thought, one need to read to deep to fathom the true meaning…it just not about the life of a butterfly, it is equally about our life and struggle we go through in life, a perfect metaphor. We keep using the metaphor of “Butterfly” in the transformation projects for the companies and organization looking to change and accelerate the growth needs to undertake the transformation process gone by a little butterfly.
Life has to go through the struggle, and those with tenacity and perseverance can withstand the challenge and create a new path for growth, after all life is all about growth. And it comes with change and change is never easy and not easily accepted by us, we resist and the more we resist, the more it persists, it is always good to accept the change with humility and success comes automatically, and we can fly high and reach whatever we set our goal, the sky indeed becomes the limit…
Loved the use of poetry and the powerful mode of prose in conveying not just a message but making us understand the meaning of life and the way we live life. Thanks Sue for sharing with us.
Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday.
God Blessed you.

Dear Nihar,
Thank you for reading Deeper within my story poem my friend, I am pleased you also read between the lines. 🙂 Life is often lived beneath the cabbage leaves, as we much and toil, striving to reach upwards as we watch others fly.. The caterpillar never gave up his wish to have wings, and once he let go and had had his fill, he followed what was inside of him all along.. He weaved his threads, creating his cocoon 🙂 And once he Woke Up and became Wide Awake!.. He saw he had wings.. 🙂 🙂 they were there within him all along,, He but needed patience and had to wait until it was his time to transform.. :-)..
I am so pleased you saw beneath the lines dear Nihar.. 🙂

Indeed Sue, life is lived beneath the cabbage, a perfect metaphor for life to change from one state of living to another, from fight the struggle to succeed. The essence of struggle in life is never to give up and keep trying, and keep aiming and wishing high…Caterpillar is the perfect example of what nature teaches and what we can learn from the nature…it is all have the patience and perseverance to go the extra mile, and the success is waiting there.
Loved the way you presented the profound idea and the metaphor you choose did create the flutter in my mind.
