Balancing The Scales.

Going around WP in my catch ups I was interested in seeing how many times the word Balance was used, It inspired the topic for the this post.

Some WP friends are learning how to balance their lives with illness, while others are balancing their work and home life with their blogging world.

Sometimes its a juggling act, as we try to pull everything together, its no wonder at times we trip up and loose our balance and can feel overwhelmed.

I am sure we have all had that feeling being ‘out of balance’ when we are out of sync with life and instinctively know that if we do not get back on track, the scales will tip either one way or the other.. I have been there more than once.. We get to feel those warning signs, as our emotions well up and the small things in life seem to expand into huge mountains that were once only mole hills..

Achieving balance requires that you assess what is important to you, each of us need to determine where  we are on those scales,. as we juggle our pieces of our life’s puzzle to make sense of where we are. Our modern day life styles can often push us to our limits as we walk our life’s path.

Every day we make choices, which affectively bring the different aspects of our being together to form the person that we are today.  You know when you are in Balance, for all flows and seems to slot into place..

Only You can determine what balance means to you..

To me.. I am at last balancing what is most important to me.. I am starting to see that in order to feel in balance, I need to to stop stepping on each side of the scales, trying to bring others into balance…The only scales I can control is the one I stand on.. my own centre..

For one who is empathic, it can be hard to detach, as we see the injustices in our world, but then am I not being judgmental in my own assessment upon my half of the scales.. For to experience this life at all, we need the opposites in order for there to be any middle ground..

Is life not showing us at this present moment the opposites as we see the the neglect, the suffering, the horrors. Is life then not giving us the opportunity to balance the scales, so we can show more compassion and care as we learn to share and give, instead of taking and greed.

Can we bring back the Balance?

It maybe up to us to shift the balance of the scales, as we each find our own equilibrium. I hope as we each learn to stand in our centres,  that we also help to bring the world back into balance, For I truly believe the world often mirrors our internal turmoil’s..

Have you found yourself balancing life’s scales recently? And How have you found your centre?

Love and Blessings

Sue

I’ve learned to view swinging wildly from one side to the other, when done properly, can even out and make you think…

Yes. the point of swinging means you experience the Highs and the lows, but we always return to the centre as we stop in the centre of ‘Gravity’… Maybe we are all on the swing waiting for it to even out 🙂

I am glad you received inspiration as you made the WP rounds. Also pleased to see you are reaching a different understanding about changing “the world”. I am also shifting my perceptions, yet again. Have you listened to Matt Kahn? He really does a fine job describing how self love and self care actually changes to worldly or planetary or even universal divine conditions. I see his style as refreshing and new, unlike what I have been exposed to before. Just a suggestion, you will find your own way.

Thanks for another timely and beautiful message. xoxoxo Linda

I did listen to his words Linda.. A message I have long believed in, but putting it into practice has for me over the years been difficult to achieve However I believe we are all shifting our awareness into our centres as we explore our inner workings more again.. For me the shift was in the mid 90’s then again in another cycle.. I re read your posting of my birth chart the other day also.. And I was amazed yet again at your accuracy of reading… And have felt yet another shift within my self this week… 🙂 But I agree with you that watching his video prompted another self analysis 🙂 and Shift in my thinking.. I am happy you enjoyed the post Linda.. and hope you continue to grow within the flow of Health and Happiness. ❤ xxx Love and Hugs .. Sue

It really helps that we are in this together Sue. I was not aware that you checked out Matt’s material. Happy it rang true for you. Also happy my reading makes sense for you at this juncture. Being gifted with the ability to read charts that facilitate growth in others brings me such joy and fulfillment. Learning that I need do nothing and still am worthy of unconditional love. I think this is a more complex lesson for women to learn as there are so many conditions placed on us. Yet, maybe it is not really about gender but about how easily we take to truly loving ourselves on a moment to moment basis. if you want to communicate more with about your reading, feel free to email me 😉 love, Linda

Surviving Paranoid Schizophrenia is about finding your centre and use it to achieve balance in your often irrational thoughts.

I can do it, I use meditation techniques a lot of the time, but it isn’t a permanent solution and some days all I want to do is stay in bed. 😦

To be honest my dreams are the only place I find inner peace, so I am reluctant to get up! 🙂

A perfect post for me to read today, Sue, as I have definitely been off ‘balance’ trying to please everyone else in my life before my own self. I have been sick for the last two weeks with work piling up and me playing ‘catch-up!’ Big changes are coming soon with me taking stock of the meaning behind your lovely words. Thank you, Dear Friend. Blessings.

Finding balance in relationships has been a theme for me in the past year. How to find the middle ground between co-dependence and independence? How to make a relationship with myself and with others (without giving all my power away).

Yes its hard at times Monika I agree, I think learning to make a relationship with one’s self many often overlook.. As we go around trying to please others, and balance our relationships, so in essence, yes we give our ‘Energy’/power away…

But when we are truly balanced then our balance of power should come from our heart, so we would then not feel obliged to give our power away, or resent others taking it.. 🙂 it opens up a whole new way of looking at it.. For then we would just be who we are, and BE what we are, without those feelings of withholding our power or feeling others were taking it.. But our emotional bodies cause us to hold onto past conditioning, and hold opinions, which then bring us to judge.. Complex.. 😀

Which when you boil it all down, then brings it all back to the point of LOVE.. And if we unconditionally love ourselves and others it then in my mind theoretically becomes a state of BEing.. which is what we all are striving to find, yet the conditioning of how we think and perceive ourselves and others gets in the way.. I would love your feedback on this idea Monika .. ❤ Sue

Balance is a tricky thing, the way we perceive it and how it changes through time. I suppose it most certainly is what we make of it. My “balance” today is quite different than that of of a few years ago; honestly, it is not that same as it was a few weeks ago.

I concur with that Suzie, when I look back to being a full time working Mum, and the juggling I did I wonder now how ever I did what I did. We all do what we have to and need to do.. Balancing life is a constant change.. Life is all about Change, and we learn each day to balance a new.. And I think this is why at the moment the World is stuck and struggling, because its clinging onto its past, ideals, ideas of governing and commerce.. We are all of us itching for change, chomping at the bit to be given our freedoms, our rights, and yet not really seeing in which direction we all want to gallop off to..
I have been thinking a lot lately.. ( not always a good idea lol ).. but we as a global world are not in balance, and we are seeing nations fighting for power, control, wanting their piece of the scale to fall on there sides..
And until we each sort out our selves we will keep swinging back and forth in our turmoil…
Lovely to see, you, Enjoy your weekend Suzie, Peace to you my friend xxx

I’ve been catching up on my reader also Sue, as well as finding Balance in my own life. I’m getting closer on both points. Trying to catch up on my reading, move furniture, pack for my eventual move to a renovated apartment, and plant herbs in pots for my window garden. Also still dealing with a computer that is acting up even after buying a new modem. I’m starting to learn to chill though, setting new priorities, and learning to rest and relax. HUGZ.

Thank you, Sue for this lovely reminder. I think I am finding that the desire to sustain the balance you describe requires a certain honesty– to relate to your recent comments we shared– to admit that certain “attachments” do not need to be invested in… Sometimes the inability to find balance nudges us into not only choose what is important to us– but on occasion it may require re-defining what is important to us, which seems to be the more challenging proposition sometimes.

Loved your reply Michael to both this and your post which I will get to answering later today 🙂 Yes you have it, learning to re-define what is important to us… I did that last year when I decided to take early retirement, meaning I just quit my job in support work.. as I was allowing myself to get so stressed out.. With long hours and challenging behaviours. A long story.. I had to trust I was doing the right thing having no income, But I weighed up the positives, I was spending more time with my husband who had officially retired some years previously. It took some adjustment. But sometimes we need to put ourselves first.. This has always been hard for me, as I have usually put others first, and always found that little word ‘NO’ hard to say 🙂 So you are correct when you said

Sometimes the inability to find balance nudges us into not only choose what is important to us

It did just that.. 🙂 Many thanks also for taking a look over at Dreamwalker’s Garden.. I hope to post more pictures later today of how the garden is growing .. 🙂 Sue

I am balancing emotions lately, and I am learning that it is perfectly okay to have many emotions at the same time. That we can be a bit sad and lost and very happy at the same time. Yesterday the weather was like that; rainy, sunny, black clouds, blue sky and then a rainbow appeared and I felt the rainbow was the soul creating a bridge connecting the emotions and showing them the way to the treasure of beauty inside them selves 🙂

I agree with you Trini, often we can feel guilty when we are happy when others around us are sad or suffering.. Learning that it is ok to feel a range of emotions all at the same time is something we all go through.. Like laughing through our tears.. Loved your analogy of the weather. So happy you saw rainbows… But then you spread rainbows where ever you go 🙂 you know that? well you do.. Love and Blessings to you Trini.. Have a perfect Day full of colours and rainbows.. Great observation Sue on the frequent use of the word ‘Balance’. Your thoughts and examples amplify the term so well. We have a word in Hindi too – ‘Samta bhav’ or maintaining balance in our thoughts.

A simple example being if we receive good news we go overboard with joy and when the news is not good at all we despair or get into a spiral of negativity. What we need to practice is good or bad our mind must remain calm and steady. It does nor mean we must not celebrate the good news or not take suitable action on the negative news. When the mind is in balance our clarity is sharp and our decisions are qualitatively better too.

Thank you and good wishes for a lovely weekend, 🙂

Dearest Sue, as you can imagine, in our current self imposed climate of sales our balancing act has become one of prioritising and strangely enough we have had to put empathy on the shelf in place of sympathy for those who come with hopes to purchase. We can be sure that life ain’t easy and that’s for sure. Love, David

Interesting post Sue. We need the opposites to see, what is right or wrong, but I could wish, that we didn’t have so much of the negative in our world.
I try to stay positive, being non-judgemental and encouraging in my way of life.
It is not the same as being in balance, but I think it is the way to find my middle ground and learn how to stay there.
I have a long walk to get there, but I am on the right way.

I think Irene we are only thinking the world is full of such negatives because the media is so good at showing us the negative news.. If they switched gears and showed only Good News stories, we would all be in that feel good factor zone.. But when we feel good we become stronger and think clearer .. While ever we are de-pressed we are subservient!, dumbed down and too stressed out to care!…
I am pleased you are back on your middle ground again my friend.. Its been lovely catching up with your today xxx Hugs Sue

    Dear Sue,
Finding a balance is definitely an on-going process! I’m pretty sure for me that art needs to be part of my equation, just not sure how to fit it all in. I will say that when I communicate with people who are loving and have beautiful hearts, such as yourself, that’s a huge ‘evener’ and scale-balancer for me. It just smooths everything right out, and makes everything okay; no matter which scales seem to be tipping in my life. I feel loved and heard. I came across an interesting article that relates to your image post here; and it’s about art and how activism saved a man’s balancing art in Boulder, Co. http://www.rawstory.com/2015/05/boulder-cops-declare-rock-stacking-a-jailable-offense-to-stop-local-artist-who-spent-7-years-creating-sculptures/ Have a beautiful weekend. Reading and writing blogs. Working on my novel and playing the game that helps building memory endurabnce. Then to have time for family and friends. I wake up rearing to go but my health says not today you need to rest and for me that is disappointing when I want to sit in front of the computer and work.

I like this post Sue, and when you say, “But when we are truly balanced then our balance of power should come from our heart, so we would then not feel obliged to give our power away, or resent others taking it,” I remember how working with physically and mentally disabled persons really helped me to find this balance. These people are quick to uncover your weaknesses and facades. They keep you in check. I am not so sure that all recipes for finding balance will work for everyone alike, but I do know from a Buddhist perspective that when you give up the “illusion” that there is a “remedy”, it helps. Some psychology schools say “spoil yourself”, “do everything you like”, or “live your dream”. I don’t. I believe doing things one doesn’t like first can help in finding that balance. I lean more towards “giving up” illusion, so I can be down-to-earth, so nothing takes me by surprise this way. Of course, it also comes with age.

And yes I agree with your point about energy takers… Working in support work I would constantly be aware of being drained.. but then, I too was at fault for allowing my energy to be drained.. for I knew better than most how to protect such drainage.. but sometimes our emotional bodies get the better of us as our emotional responses would allow the energy exchanges… I sometimes which we could see how we each interact and our energies exchange in constant momentum all the time… People would be astonished to see WE are indeed ENERGY BEINGS.. 🙂

Sue, I also think it has to do with the “anattā” (not self); coming to terms that the “self” is also an illusion. It’s such a difficult concept to grasp. Once you realize the “me” (identity) simply does not exist, it is easier to put in perspective. Finding a balance with my ego (self) is okay. The problem is when we cannot put that ego aside, and everything is about ME all the time. Realizing that the “me” or “ego” is simply our mask in life; is not even part of ourselves, just a survival instinct. Yet this “survival instinct” is not a problem with the animal kingdom, yet with humans it is. Why? That’s why coming to terms that human egos are also an illusion helps. Only those who can put the egos aside can transmit that energy, Sue.

Sue it is so hard to stay balanced, and I am glad you are finding yours, in life especially when we see those close to us who are out of balance and suffering as a result and want to help. Recently there was a family emergency that dragged me emotionally over the edge as I worried for the parties involved. In the end it worked out and everyone is doing well but it was a wake up call to me to remember that the universe will right things in time and not to get so overly involved that it makes my health suffer.

This past week I filled in and puppy sat for my son so he could take a vacation. It was trying at times because there was so much I wanted to accomplish and couldn’t with the puppy. Yet today, the morning after the puppy went home, I woke to realize that not having those things on my to-do list completed was a blessing. it gave me time to heal from a cold that I believe I caught because I’d been emotionally drained from the family emergency.

Great post Sue. Lately, I’ve felt out of balance again. Too much work. Too little fun. And every time I squeeze in some fun, I feel like I have double work to catch up on. I definitely need to balance. Right now, my workout is my luxury me time. I think I have to just accept that I’ve done the best I can and let some things go.

I think you are right, we often make ourselves more work just by worrying about the things we can not control as we worry about fitting everything in.. I am learning all the time to step back and let things go.. And stop worrying of the small things in life and just allow the Universe to sort it all out.. And it usually does 🙂 xx

    A great delivery dearest Sue 💥🍒 💥🍒
You say above: “Only You can determine what balance means to you”… You are absolutely right…
I don’t know why people toss aside blogging when they feel overwhelmed.
It is not a matter of blogging or not… It is about bogging with more or less intensity… I am not about black or white when it comes to striking balance as it is probably placed in a grey spot … the golden amean as Aristotle would say…
Following these thoughts, I absolutely agree with you when you say:
“Achieving balance requires that you assess what is important to you, each of us need to determine where we are on those scales”..
Thanks for being such an inspiration to me!!!. Big hugs! Aquileana ⭐

That is certainly part of the problem isn’t it? An entire world, society by society completely akimbo. We don’t understand the mess we have made of it. As the world tips, so do we all tip.

    Wonderful thoughts Sue.

    Great post Sue.

To me balance is really about being in Integrity with your own self.

I use the word Integrity here as a positive phenomenon and not really in a Normative sense viz. Good or Bad, Right or Wrong etc.So my use of Integrity has nothing to do with morality, Ethics and so on. Integrity, in my world, is really about being whole, complete, unbroken. And how does one achieve that? By allowing your word to be YOU. By honouring your word which means keeping your word and if you are not able to keep it, saying so and be willing to clear up the mess created by your not keeping your word.

So how does balance align with integrity? As we begin to honour our own word ( as per above definition), we tend to give our word on aspects to which we remain truly committed to. We allow ourselves to move away from spaces where our passion does not lie and we are trapped there only to “Look good” and “be liked”. As we move away from such inauthenticities existing in our life, we gain more and more balance.

    Cheers

    Shakti

What a lovely reply Shakti to my post.. I love your Ethics in Integrity..

Integrity, in my world, is really about being whole, complete, unbroken. And how does one achieve that? By allowing your word to be YOU. By honouring your word which means keeping your word and if you are not able to keep it, saying so and be willing to clear up the mess created by your not keeping your word.

If we all did this one thing, how much better our world would be, if we did not try to outdo one another or belittle one another as we so often see in our world as we push and shove our way through life climbing our various ladders to what we ‘Think’ is success..

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts Shakti.. And yes when we do as you say.. ”

allow ourselves to move away from spaces where our passion does not lie and we are trapped there only to “Look good” and “be liked”. As we move away from such inauthenticities existing in our life, we gain more and more balance.

      Excellent thoughts my friend..

Oh Sue, life sure is a balancing act. Some days those scales are like eggshells; we don’t want to step too hard for fear of losing our balance and cracking.
I love this line from you, “For I truly believe the world often mirrors our internal turmoil’s.. ” I wholeheartedly believe this statement. The world is in need of some repair no doubt, and surely that reflects back on us, just as it was man’s creations that left its reflection on the world.

Peace and harmony to you my friend.

Yes, I think we have both done a bit of type-rope walking on eggshells in the past LOL.. I am happy this post of mine resonated, especially the Mirror line… If only we could step back and look more intently into our reflections.. Yet we are all shocked when we see the world in turmoil, and forget its we who make the communities, and it all starts with our own attitudes.. Love and Blessings.. Sue x

“To me.. I am at last balancing what is most important to me.. I am starting to see that in order to feel in balance, I need to to stop stepping on each side of the scales, trying to bring others into balance…The only scales I can control is the one I stand on.. my own centre..”……that is the core ..the essence isn’t it?

Excellent post Sue, the whole subject of Balance is what forms our being, Physically Mentally and Spiritually.
In my younger days, there was no Balance, I didn’t even understand the word Scales, once I reached the scales in later life, I knew then that my future depended on my ability to Balance the scales. With Wisdom one learns to Balance the scales and not walk a tightrope on the scales.
    Great thought provoking blog Sue.
All Blessings for a great weekend, public holiday here on Monday, apparently your Queen is having another birthday.
    Cheers.

Thank you Ian for contributing your thoughts here.. Yes such is the energy of Youth as we will often ‘Walk the tightrope’ Its not until we see ALL things have to balance out. For what we do in the physical plane affects the Mental plane, and ultimately our Spiritual plane of existence.. All things come in cycles, such is the circle of life.. And the sooner we each come to our own centre of balance, the world will stop her wobbling of woes.. Still a long road of many upheavals my friend.. but within each step of our BEing we are creating our future outcomes within our present thoughts.. What we think, we create… I hope more people see that.. And become responsible for their thoughts and realise their choices are affecting the whole of who we are and what we will become.

Great the Queen gave you a day to celebrate Ian.. Our Bank holiday was last weekend 🙂 <3.. Love to Ana my friend Sue

I know, I know, I’m really behind, but what with phone calls, packing and a sick cat i have been sent dizzy.
Although getting to this point has been through much careful, prayerful , thought, when it came down to it, I had to find balance for me, in my life, which when you first read it, it sounds a little selfish. But I am hoping with less stress, I will have space for the other important people and things in my life.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend xxx

Beverley.. never never worry about being behind here.. I can go weeks without visiting as you well know!!.. I am sorry to hear that your cat has been ill.. no doubt if you are packing he senses something too and is unsettled..

Also its not being Selfish, putting yourself first for a change.. And you are right in finding the Balance within YOU.. and what is best for YOU.. YOU are the important one.. if you do not look after YOU who will???

I just know all of this upheaval is where you are meant to be.. and your new home is going to be so snug and perfect also.. as you meet and greet new friends..
Love to you and will be catching up over the next few days.. I am just logging in and out of WP while I am enjoying Summer.. And leaving the PC for wet days and evenings when I am less busy.. 🙂 special thoughts your way Beverley .. 🙂 Hugs Sue xx

Wonderful post, Sue! The word “balance” definitely is familiar to our family as we work on balancing our daily routines with the illness cloud looming over us as you know all about. But right now, life is good and balanced and it will soon be celebratory, too, which is exciting. I also agree with what you said about us being in control of what balance means to us individually. I could go on and on but I think I’ll end here…thanks again for the beautiful reminder to somehow find balance in all we do, in our minds and bodies, in our daily lives…many hugs, my friend..xoxo
