Living in the Moment~ A Short Story

I wrote this in 2011, and was browsing through my Archives,  I needed to read it again to bring me back into my NOW.. and Live in the Only Moment there is..

~~~~~~~~
How long could she shut out the World? To open her eyes would allow the harsh light of day to blind her vision. A vision she no longer wished to see. She had witnessed cruelty beyond measure of Man’s inhumanity to man.
If she kept her eyes closed she could shut the world out. She could stop the constant chatter; the inaudible rabble the world threw out, the constant noise of the ‘woe is me’, ‘the I have not’, ‘the I want’ and ‘it’s mine’
Within the darkness behind her closed eyelids she could create a perfect world. A world of love and healing, a world of unity and sharing, a world of giving and receiving. A selfless world of Peace.
She wished this throbbing in her temples would cease, in fact it was at such times as these she wished she could just vanish completely. But as soon as the thought appeared she vanquished it from her mind, she knew she still had to fulfil her destiny, complete her mission, she knew her ‘Time’ was not yet.
‘Time’ ….everything had its Season, a time to sow a time to reap, ………
Harvest Time, ….. Now there she could focus, she knew all about harvest time… (We plough the seeds and scatter the good seed on the land) arrgh she thought what seeds indeed did we sow. Again she was a child, running, carefree, laughing.. Oh to have that feeling back, to wake each day with that Joy and spring in her step. To view the world with untainted innocence.
She wished Time would open up its ticking hands just to hold her still. To stop her thoughts from racing off into the future or slipping into the past. She wished Time would hold her still within that ‘moment’.
She laughed out loud, the sound echoed within the tunnel of her thoughts like an alien train. She’d had many ‘moments’ and each of them had been a ‘Now moment’ but she had let them All slip away as she looked over her shoulder as the shadows of the past crept up. Or she chased them into her future wishing them to come.
The salty brine oozed from beneath her eyelids, but she still refused to open them. Where did all those ‘Now’ moments go? Lost, gathered up in vague recollections.
The Light squeezed a ray of silver under her lids as the salt stung at her eyes.. Her temples throbbed in unison with her heart, pounding now within the cage beneath her breasts. A cage she had placed herself in. The rays of light filtered through her lashes creating prisms of colours that darted in lines she counted them, One,…… two,…….. three………………….
She opened her eyes with a start, the Sun had come out from behind the clouds.. She was back within the ‘Now’.. and a smile once again touched her lips for she realised she could live within the Now Moment any time she wished.. For ALL Moments are Now moments.
She just needed to believe and Live and ‘breathe’.. Every Moment Now….
    Beautifully expressed dear Sue, if I may say so. It seems to be so that we each of us must pass through what some, perhaps rather dramatically, call “The Dark Night of the Soul”. Dependent upon the character type, conditioning and so forth, it need not be so bleak a night though, and in any case, is just a passing phase before morning breaks. With gratitude and all best wishes as always, Hariod. ❤
      The Dark Night of the Soul I would imagine many are experiencing those moments right now dear Hariod.. My own shadowland has been another stepping stone of casting off past issues.. Often revisiting Old wounds is painful, and for me the final layers were peeled away… My revisiting this post showed me how far I had come from another blip in 2011..
      I so appreciate your support Hariod Many thanks for your lovely comment..
    Hey Sue D,
    Well, here we are again, back in the merry old month of March with a quarter of the year almost over and having survived the rigours of another (English) winter turn our gaze in anticipation towards the youthful vibrancy of a flushing, blushing spring.
    I came to view the fanfare of prismatic colours illuminating your angelic art – lively and sumptuous – and then decided to linger a little longer still to share a moment with your thoughts in the dissolving darkness of winter’s passing shadow…
    A wonderful read as always Sue, which seemed to push and pull me all too easily into the contemplative space between your words. In ways sometimes too subtle to determine, your grounding thoughts prick at my mind and tug the heartstrings a little more. I sat reflecting on humankind’s perfidy and the dilution of morals, ethics, and virtues, and I was lost for a moment in the playful innocence of childhood’s adventure chasing dreams and rainbows with eyes wide with wonder. I seem to recall there was no sense of fear or vulnerability when innocence reigned in childhood, and no measure of finality or comprehension of tragedy. You know, I can see why we place our hearts within a cage of bones…
    I hope you’ll not mind, but I pulled a couple of Lindeman poems from the internet archive and know they’ll add bubbles to your ever-present smile…
    ~ Lap Softly Sullen Sorrow ~ by S.K Lindeman ~
    Lap softly sullen sorrow
    That I may go to sleep
    While lotus dreams in watery night
    Wrap round me like a lake
    I feel their grasping fingers reach
    For muddied roots descent
    While darkness drowns out the hours
    And tears drip into night
    Yet a blossom is still blooming
    her petals, so pale and pure
    Tender angel calls from faraway
    Even darkness has her place
    So go lightly into shadows
    And drink the eternal dew
    That melts in thirsty morning
    After night has had her fill.
    ~ Magic of the Moment ~ by ~ S.K Lindeman ~
    Magic of the moment
    taken through the maze,
    Brings ascendant focus
    to the inner haze,
    Musical madness all around,
    Love to listen
    to inner sound,
    Warmth within, without the hearth
    Speaks as a lover
    to the heart.
    I have a friend who planted seeds many years ago and now looks forward to autumn and retirement and having opportunity to reap the full harvest of his past endeavours. My friend has no legacy to leave this world other than the words they have penned which will continue to breathe upon well-thumbed pages for as long as there are minds to imagine their meaning. Writing is their passion, and their first activity when retirement comes knocking is to pen a poetry of words about their life. Not an autobiography that might seek to delineate every part of their life, but a work of substance that reflects on the meaningful, the transformative, the essential moments of their life that have together defined the person they are and will become. I could suggest that the project is in it’s infancy when already 60 years old. I believe their epic piece of work will be presented under the title, ‘I thought I had more time’. Let’s hope they completes their mission and scrawl until the last breath! 😀
    May the Force be with you young Virgo Dreamwalker 😉 Loaf long and prosper…
    Namaste
    Beautiful words Sue 🙂 It’s so easy for us to get lost and forget the importance of living in the now…it’s something I learned from dealing with dogs especially those with problems. They live in the now but humans tend not to so we try to compensate with them for their sometimes bad pasts for example and even though their behaviour now may be a result of the past they do not live in that they live in the now, and so behaviour problems get worse because the human doesn’t understand this and their actions although good intentioned are counter productive!
    Hope all is good with you today Sue, it is winter here since I am on a week’s holiday from work lol hopefully it is not so for you 😉 It will be spring again when I have to go back next week so if you’re also experiencing winter right now don’t worry! My holiday is the reason why and all will be well again next week no doubt!! 🙂 xxx
      Loved your reply Wolfie.. especially about Dog behaviours.. All they need is for us to understand their language and stop imposing our often misguided rules upon them.. Which is what Humans just DO!.. 🙂
      Yes all is well Wolfie,, Had a great weekend, Mother’s Day and all that it entails.. :-D.. And yes it hailed yesterday here, bitter cold a drop again in temps which were rising!.. And oh no.. another wet, cold holiday break.. You will have to try and fox the weather Wolfie.. 🙂 I hope it improves a little..
      Enjoy the rest of your week.. And Mega Hugs my friend xxx ((( HUGS )))
    lately the living in the moment is like riding an escalator, your feet are grounded within one step, yet the scene is constantly changing as you move up or down never taking an actual step…
    I keep thinking as I ride the waves within the pause of this ride, I have missed seeing something important…
    your words feel…as well as a sense of you listening to each pause,taking in more each time…in between each line you share a kaleidoscope of colors for us to discover their meanings
    Thank you for always sharing you and your words of wisdom
    Sue, this was beautiful and still timely. I think we have to stop and imagine the world the way we would like to see it in order to make it happen. If we don’t dream of that perfect world we won’t have the insight to make our world better.
    This is beautiful, yes we all live in two worlds…the world outside and the world within. We all face the same situation should we open our eyes and get ourselves to harsh reality of life or keep ourselves within and enjoy the cozy comfort and the beauty of life hidden in our imagination.
    Living in the moment…indeed a dilemma we all love to be in.
    Have a great day ahead.
      Wonderful comment dear Nihar.. Yes sometimes the outer world can get too much.. But then we have to remember our OuterWorld is created from our Inner thinking..
      So I wonder if we all just spent those few moments in meditation and contemplation of a Peaceful world, if then we could not manifest it and it then be reflected back at us.. Would be nice to think we could 🙂
      Thank you Nihar.. always I appreciate your thinking
        Very well said Sue; the outer world is a product of the inner thinking. Something we don’t realize and constantly search for solace and peace outside.
        Nothing can be better than spending quality time in meditation and reflection.
        Have a great day…
    Whatever the deemed comfort in the darkness within, the compulsion is to move into the light as the ray of silver squeezes under the lids to open out an unseen world; may be it is darker outside, in which case the prescription is to shift into the divine light within. As the Vedic saying goes, “tamasomar jyotirgamaya, mrityomar amritamgamaya” (from darkness to light, from death to eternal life). Let all your NOW living evolve you towards that, dear Sue…best wishes… Raj.
      What a beautiful and thoughtful comment you have left me.
      And yes, ‘From darkness to light from death to eternal life’
      I can honestly say dear Raj, My eyes are now wide open, and My Shadows receding as I embrace all the Light and Love given by such wonderful friends such as yourself and others, who have supported and uplifted my ‘fall’ since revisiting old wounds and allowing the worlds wounds to swamp me..
Each of us, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives, and their reactions in turn affect others As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain. Your thoughts and actions are like stones dropped into still waters, causing ripples to spread and expand as they move outward.. I hope that I can send a few ripples out via the web of life, as we each of us weave the threads together... Welcome to my Sanctuary of Peace and Love... May we each spread our Lights around our World....Sue Dreamwalker
