Before Christmas my hubby had a clear out in the garage.. Now this in itself was well overdue.. But this overhaul led to him finding a few things which had been buried for few years.. Among other things he re-discovered he had a staple gun.. with a new box of staples..
Later that week he had cause to go up into the loft.. Mainly as I wanted the Christmas Decorations relocating.. So as he moved this and that up there, he also came across several large pieces of fabric neatly folded in plastic bags.. He had been given this maybe 10 years ago, as a lady who was into Interior designing.. She was throwing the fabric away, and so Hubby asked could he keep it.. ( as he knew I would probably find some use for it one day.. as I had 30 years in the textile industry )
But it got stored and forgotten..
Now over the last few years as my Granddaughter has grown Now 4 years of age.. And as she climbs upon our dinning chairs sometimes with buckles on her shoes.. the fabric on our chairs got pulled and scuffed..
Soooo… We put these two finds together and Below are the results..
Old Chair.
Pulling Old chair to pieces
Taking the old seat apart so I could get the right shape to cut out fabric
Next I used some clear plastic so I could line up each piece to cut out exactly the same fabric pattern to repeat on all of our four chairs..
The fabric is a thick cotton weave print.
So I cut out Four bottom cushions matching pattern.. Then I Cut out 8 pieces for the backs of the chairs.. These had to be sewn the shape of the backs turned through and then I just slotted the old backs into the new sleeves….
Hubby was needed to hold the backs as I had to sew the tops closed close to the edge but leaving a lip to slot into the top back staves… Each one had to fit tight, so there was lots of pushing and pulling to get them fitted snug.. Sorry the below photo is a little blurred.
Hubby I don’t think trusted me with the powerful staple gun,, so as I stretched the fabric to fit the bottom cushions he stapled into position.
Here was the first finished Chair..
And the completed set..
Cost… Zero!..
And we have a different fabric for our next project.. We have two old chairs in the loft.. SO…. watch this Space!

It is sometime a great discovery and become an innovation when we scan the old stuff, and realize that how things perceived to be not useful have turn out to be very useful after some time period, that how’s it is said that don’t just throw away things keep it some corner and you will find it’s utility in due course…
Very creative way of transforming and making it productive…Sue, a lovely way to commence the New Year…

Yes Sue, it is an excellent exercise and a lovely way to look back, reflect and keep ourselves creatively engaged…many occasions we just don’t realize the value of things, and it is only with the passage of time, we start seeing the hidden or the evolved value of the piece which otherwise rests lifelessly at one dingy dark corner…with the fall of light everything changes its colour and outlook.
O! Gardening is such a enriching experience to be engaged, it keeps us lively and makes us feel grow with every growth of the plants and we all love seeing the growth and trees anyway are so beautiful and such is the power of plant, it is difficult to fathom and factor into our life unless we keep observing and analyzing the growth…

You have no idea David how close to the truth of Aladdin’s Cave our Loft is.. Or Hubbies Garage.. Since my early retirement.. I have been I would guess nagging at him to get them both sorted.. Now he’s started.. We both have more upholstery to tackle.. We both enjoyed re doing the covers on these chairs….
Now a Genie!.. well. at times we all think we need a magic lamp.. But to be honest as I look around the world.. I already hold all the treasures anyone could possibly want.. 🙂
