We all know as young children our parents told us to eat up our greens as they were good for you. Well maybe in our modern day ‘Fast-Food’ society we have lost some of our basic healing knowledge in what our Great Grandmothers would have in their own Kitchen Pharmacy.. Which many of us now shun because we think they were ‘Old Wives Tales’..
And yet many of our everyday vegetables which seem out of fashion now with our Younger generation are proven to not only to be good for you. But extremely good for you..
I was reading an article from a study founded at Queen Mary University of London. that showed from its study of a number of patients and lab conditions that eating vegetables rich in Nitrates such as beetroot, lettuce, Cabbage, Fennel, etc could help Lower Blood Pressure. Another well known miracle worker is Garlic which is well renown for its healing work. (Click on the links for information about each healing property.)
When you think about how many now must be taking High Blood Pressure tablets in our high stress modern day world.. And you look at how our eating habits have changed.
Blood pressure can be lowered by changes in our lifestyles such as eating less salt, being more active and correct diet..
Professor Peter Weissberg said.. “ This promising study shows, that it may be possible to reduce high blood pressure by eating more foods containing large amounts of nitrates such as green leafy veg and beetroot.”
High Blood Pressure affects about 16 million people in the UK alone!.. increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes..
So this brings home yet again those interesting facts about Cabbages in my post What a load of old Cabbage in my other Friday Facts Here
While I am on about veggies I may as well update you on how our allotment is growing.. Boy oh boy what a difference a week away made.. And you will see the differences since I last posted.. Here below is what the allotments look like this week.. taken July 4th.
Enjoy and I hope I have give you FOOD For Thought!
What we Eat does make a difference to our health..
Enjoy your Weekend….
Love and Blessings

I very nearly forgot to comment here Sue, so tied up in looking at the photo’s of your allotment, It makes you wonder how much Old Wives Lore has gone for good, lost in the past. We’re in danger of forgetting the most important parts of being human. living hand in hand with nature and all the natural health benefits she has to offer in return for our help along the way. Nature and natural, stands to sense now doesn’t it? Have a wonderful Friday, and weekend too. Love and light guide your way. xPenx

Pen just worked my way around to your comment.. So pleased you liked my photos and thank you for commenting upon them… You would think Nature knows best and it stands to sense Pen.. But many seem to think otherwise… But I think we shall be looking up those old wives tales and remedies sooner than we think, as the pharmaceutical world grows ever fatter on the pill popping populations who need another pill to counteract the one they are taking.. When will we really see sense!?? I wonder??? And where is the SUN… I got all rigged up outdoors with Laptop and had to come inside again as it turned chilly… xxx

Very true hun! 🙂
It is really hard to find fresh veggies where I shop – there IS a greengrocers stall in the shopping centre, but the People that run it sell half your purchases as rotten fruit!
I gave them two chances, but they did it to me both time so now I no longer buy from them! 😦
Love and hugs!

I think that goes for most Supermarkets too Prenin.. the fruit and veg soon go off.. I think its the long voyages in containers from overseas.. and the Cold storage they are in, then they are brought out to room temps and they go off within a matter of days of purchasing… Love and Blessings.. Your garden is doing great. Mine isn’t as far along, but I came home after a week away and found things had grown quite a bit from where they had been. Most surprisingly has been the new growth from plants I thought I lost due to the late frost.
It is amazing how much has been forgotten about natural healing. I wrote a post on how to heal warts with garlic more than a year ago, it is still the most viewed post weekly. That shows me that people do want to learn about natural health and avoid the pharmaceuticals.

Yes natural healing Lois is what is being forgotten, as is our ability to heal ourselves from within.. The power of our mind over matter really does help . If we tell ourselves we are strong.. we become stronger.. If we tell ourselves we are fragile and weak then we often become weaker… The Pharmaceuticals use chemicals to treat the condition.. And yet should we delve in and see what is causing the condition.. its often our states of mind.. and emotions which are blocking our own bodies natural healing flow and creating our dis-ease with ourselves and the disease within our bodies…

Oh how true that is. They treat the symptoms, then treat the side effects rather than treating the underlying problem. I heard a few times that these companies don’t want to cure us, it would put them out of business.

Why do you think after all this time Lois no cure has been found for Cancer.. Oh I could point you in various directions over the Net as to how many have had proven cures quashed and those who invented them have met untimely ends.. But I am trying to keep positive.. And yet this world of ours is far from what we are shown it to be.. as I am sure you are aware my friend..
But we keep sending them love.. in the hopes that our collective thoughts will overcome those who are more darker will be extinguished by the light..
Love and blessings and I may be absent for a few days apart from a scheduled posting .. As duty calls..

I too have heard of the untimely ending of so many who had stumbled on to cures. I have also read of one researcher who had wanted to find a cure for her father only to realize the industry doesn’t want a cure. The rates of cancer are rising as well instead of falling, I can only imagine all the reasons this is so. A good example is skin cancer, the only people I have heard of getting skin cancer are those who slather on suntan lotions, all those chemicals being baked into our skin enter our bloodstream… And then the statistics for surviving cancer aren’t any better when you take a closer look at the numbers. All that money and suffering.
Look forward to your return, don’t work too hard.

Love this one Sue. I had a book which I am trying to get again that gives recipes for vege/fruit juices to heal certain conditions. I also have a great book ‘Foods that Heal/Foods that Harm’…love it. I recently was watching a news item about American Samoa where food [healthy] costs a bomb to import and many of the islanders live on fast food [Maccas etc…] as it is cheaper. They have developed a huge range of health problems because of it. If doctors addressed diet more often them I think we would have less problems. I know even with the fur babies…I have them on a more natural diet these days. Okay so the kitties don’t get veges…but their health has improved from when I used dried food as their main staple.
