Friday Facts~ What a Load of Old Cabbage.~ GM Crops approved by UK!!!

Cabbages and long view of Alloments

Cabbage is one of the oldest vegetables in existence and continues to be a dietary staple throughout the world. It has been cultivated in the West for over 4000 yrs and many think it to be one of the greatest healers of the vegetable Kingdom.

Dr Valnet a French Natural Doctor cites many cases in which the application of slightly crushed cabbage leaves to gangrenous wounds brought healing. This was found especially in the second world war where application to wounds in some instances avoided the need for surgery or amputation.

Cabbage cools the digestive system and is also effective for indigestion, acidity, burning, inflammation as in gastritis and ulcers. The ability of Cabbage to heal digestive ulcers has been known for centuries. In 1557 a Dutchman Dr Dodens wrote-“ The Juice of cabbage sooths the abdomen and relieves constipation, cleans and heals old ulcers both internal and external. Mixed with honey, makes a syrup that cures hoarseness and cough”

Cabbage is high in fibre, vitamin C & K, and naturally fat free and cholesterol free.

Cabbage is a nutritional powerhouse that is an excellent source of manganese vitamin B6, riboflavin, calcium, potassium, vitamin A, tryptophan, protein and magnesium.

Different varieties of cabbages have varying nutritional strength: purple cabbage has more vitamin C, while the savoy has more vitamin A, calcium, iron and potassium. Cabbages are an excellent source of fibre and vitamin K, and a good source of vitamin C, calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

Why all these facts about this well known Food? Well in the News right now is the headlines that the UK Government is promoting Genetically Modified Crops… click the blue links for information.. Please educate yourselves..

I am against GM crops, we are told its to feed the world.. But the World is still starving while those who are behind the GM crops grow ever fatter.. Not to mention what effects the GM crops have on our Bees.  I hope that you too will look into the REAL effects and tactics of those behind the Genetically Modified crops and see how many Farmers have been ruined, and how more and more chemicals are being produced that are used in conjunction with these crops.

We are told that “  The introduction of GM crops in the last 25 years has not resulted in improved food security in most of the countries that have adopted them. In most cases there has been little or no change but in others the situation has clearly worsened.”

So what is behind GM Crops? and why are we pushing to interfere yet again in what Nature has managed on her own for Thousands of Years?

What do you think about GM crops?

Just spend 7 minutes educating yourself.

GM crops are not only bad for the environment but also bad for humans. They will genetically mutate us and thus leaving us high and dry with shots of chemicals and perplexed visits to the doc getting answers to what agonizes us….Alas!

Sue, is there a site where I can vote NO for GM crops…I am with you, my friend!

Yes, I’m very dubious about them too Sue. We just never know the result of all these things for many years and then it is too late to turn back the clock and undo any damage. Also, it is not as if those who object to GM can keep clear of it. This worries me in other areas too (such as medical research). So much manipulation and modification of nature, it’s a worry I think. On a brighter note, lovely to see your cabbages and think of them growing so beautifully. Love, Ruth xx

the very term genetically modified gives me the creeps, Sue, and with so much evidence to support even the feeling of alarm, the knock on effects are worryingly horrendous to nature and to us humans too. I know the money involved is the main barrier to stopping this procedure, but surely like Frankensteins Monster, you result in destroying what you were trying to achieve, and end up living with terrible consequences. We vote with our choices and our valuable opinions , if we don’t buy either way, they don’t make a penny. Strange to say, I haven’t eaten cabbage for years, cauliflower, sprouts etc… but the not so humble cabbage hasn’t had a look in. After reading your info I must change this. love and light my friend. xPenx

Cabbage is a definite for a balanced diet and I hope when I have some more time to add more about the healing properties of Cabbage along with some tasty recipes .. I have started to eat young curly Kale leaves raw in salads and its amazing how much brighter and energised I feel once eaten.. Yes the GM issue is one that really upset me, I thought the UK leaders had more sense.. But like the rest of the Herd they follow like Sheep to the slaughter that which those with the Money Power say.. All we can do is look to what we buy…. There are many things already upon our Supermarket shelves which have been GMO altered.. Thank you for your indepth thoughts and comments Pen.. Much appreciated ~Sue xx

I’m sad to hear this – over the years, I had come to believe that those nations in Europe and Africa were too smart to be taken in by US tactics claiming the ‘superiority’ of GM foods – I had hope that the rest of the world would say no and those manufacturers would have be pressured into quitting the insanity.

Many small farms in Canada and the US have been brought to bankruptcy and foreclosure by lawsuits from Monsanto because GM seeds were found in the small farm’s crops – never mind that uncovered truckloads of the stuff drove by their place – never mind that wind can carry seed across fence lines….

And the greatest tragedy is those who claim to end starvation when anyone with a brain knows the ‘gift’ of free seed to those in dire straits is no gift of self-sufficiency at all – rather it is a gift of dependency for the rest of their lives as farmers, for they cannot grow crops next year from this year’s seed – –

The fact that anyone was ever allowed to ‘patent life’ is a sad testament to the deterioration of the human race’s relationship with Mother Nature…

Oh…don’t get me started, wouldn’t I love to tell you how I really feel….

    😀

Dear Tamrahjo, I would love to know how you feel, I feel deeply as yourself about this awful practice which those of us with sense and who are awake enough SEE through the reasons of GM crops and Monsanto’s controlling Huge corporation of Herbicides and Pest controls It makes me cringe to think what is being put onto plants and soaked into the soil, let alone what is being ingested by people eating the crops… So please Feel FREE to vent, it really needs more of us Venting and us stopping sitting on the fence hoping it will go away… or these issues are not our problem,.. But they are all of our problem, for it will be our childrens, children who will grow up in the desert world we will be creating.. As these seeds need chemicals to make them grow and fertilize and the Bees will be no more… My heart bleeds for those whose eyes are closed except to their wallets and profit…

LOL – I’ve ‘vented’ for years – and have many articles in my archives – – I’ve talked to others till I’m blue in the face – –

I take any and every opportunity to hook up with others who feel the same way – I sign petitions – I talk to anyone who will listen and those who are willing too are growing in numbers, but still so many that want to see this viewpoint as some ‘crazed conspiracy theory nutjob’ – 🙂

I do believe we are making headway via the grass roots movements of Heirloom Seed Exchanges and more people getting interested in gardening – and the burgeoning social movement of urban/community gardens – this is why I don’t vent as loud or as often – if there are plenty of us gardeners to trade seeds with then, Monsanto will never win – it’ll just take a tad longer than having legislation passed to stop them in their tracks!

When I first became aware of this (2005/6?) There was one place I could order seeds from – Now, I order from over 15 different large and small farms – so it’s growing and no way to stop the momentum! Yay!!!! 😀

Sue, that was a very informative video especially for those who haven’t been studying the issues and want to learn how to avoid GMO ingredients in their food. Its scary to think he is right and 70% of everything in a grocery store is made from or with GM food.

I just added a link in my post tonight on the effects of gm food on pigs, who are biologically similar to humans. It bothers me that the number of foods being altered is growing. I love cabbage but I won’t eat it if I can’t get real cabbage.

Given that GM crops are passing on their resistance to herbicides to weeds, it means that yet more chemicals have to be used to control them!!! 😦

The only ones gaining from this are the companies which have a stranglehold on farmers using their ‘owned’ genetically modified crops! 😦

This isn’t about feeding the world, it’s about owning the world food supply!!!

    Love and hugs!

Welcome to my world DW….How sad it is when this stuff comes in and knowing it will never go out. It’s here to stay I’m afraid short of burning the entire planet. It’s awful and quickly all peoples crops become contaminated and there is no way to get away from it!Especially in your allotment as those around you might not plant organic! It is pure evil, but so is most everything they are doing right now. So sorry to hear that you will be dealing with this as well. All I can say is, save the seeds, as many as possible because shortly even saving your seeds won’t be guaranteed against the GMO gene from spreading plants…How very sad for you guys. It is an awful way to live but you will find ways to get around it I know you will!

Yes Vk, I was so saddened and dismayed by this news,, Those who have NO idea at all about the subject except what they are told, they blindly believe.. Are making decisions that affect the rest of our Food health… not withstanding the affects it has upon Nature and the natural balance of things… I just hope that awareness of the consequences will wake up others to open their eyes as to the real reasoning behind GM Foods… I have a busy weekend my friend but one spent with family.. I will however be silent next week as we head out to the coast for a few days… 🙂 So see you when I get back.. 🙂 Love and Blessings DW xx

GM crops…if nature had intended for food to be made that way, it would already have been made that way. We humans keep thinking we can improve upon nature, but she is already perfect. Every time we make “improvements” we end up suffering in other ways. Fertilizer is a great example. And the insecticides that we use to supposedly grow more veggies? Oh man, don’t even get me started. Sigh, I feel like we have done so much damage and it’s heart-wrenching to think of the long-term impact on the planet. When I start to despair, I try to remember that I can’t carry the world’s problems on my shoulders and I just try to have faith that things are happening this way for a reason…like maybe we will one day learn from our mistakes. Thank you for this – more people need to speak out about GM crops.

Thanks for the info Sue, great post! I too am against all GM foods. They make enormous amounts of money for giants like Monsanto, leaving the growers with less and beholden to Monsanto, and cause a whole lot of trouble for those who eat them. As a herbalist, I always warn my clients not to eat GM foods. Research done in the US – as they have been exposed to GM foods for a long time now – shows that they cause severe long-term problems with the digestive system, children’s intelligence levels, worsen auto-immune diseases, promote cancer etc, etc.
Thanks for shining the Light of Truth on the subject Sue! 🙂

GM crops are designed and fashioned by human beings. Many things that human beings seem to do they screw up. Especially when it comes to changing the way nature works. Perhaps all facts are not known about GM now but at some point in time they will become known. I am positive that MONEY is playing a big part in the decisions that are controlling any government. They have been and continue to be misguided at the our expense.

Thank you Sue for all the effort you have put into liking us to information on GM.
Every thing in nature is interdependent, there is no action without a reaction. Nature is infinite man is mortal. We will learn to cooperate with nature or nature will impartially teach us. When the people running the multi national corporations realise, that they and their children are dependant on and not immune to natures laws things will change. It is ironic that these well educated people are ignorant of nature. Spending all their time in learning how to climb to the top rung of the ladder to no where. Lasting happiness is not found in material things. . .

Nature will always have her say.. and will have the last laugh too…. We Humans are a mere spec of dust in the scheme of evolution and Nature will find her balance eventually despite Man’s interference. And Man may find himself one day on his own extinction list of things he is ultimately destroying as he tampers with what Mother Nature has done naturally for millions of years. Happiness is as you rightly say Jack.. not found within Material things..And Mother Nature may well yet teach mankind that serious lesson, if he continues ignoring her warnings!
