Storm Clouds on our Horizon

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Yesterday we had one Huge Thunderstorm.. The sky turned black and heavens opened with torrential rain..Often a storm will creep up upon us as the dark clouds gather in the distance, it isn’t until we look up that we realise the rain is about to fall. We had been enthralled in our work in the allotments when we looked up to see in the distance the mist of rain falling across the valley as the dark clouds had gathered unnoticed as we made our hasty retreat into the garden shed..

So too in life often we do not see the changes that are around us.

The same laws that govern the growth of plants oversee our own internal and external changes. We observe, and wonder, tilling the soil of our lives, planting seeds, and tending them.

Sometimes the hard part is knowing when to stop and let go, handing it over to the universe. Usually this happens by way of distraction or disruption, our attention being called away to other more pressing concerns. And it is often at these times, when we are not looking, in the silence of nature’s embrace, that the miracle of change happens.Just as we hadn’t noticed our Sunflowers had started to bloom yesterday until we looked up to see two beautiful heads in bloom.

Sometimes we have relatively short attention spans, and we can easily lose track of time. We may worry about a seedling in a pot with our constant attention and watering for several weeks only to find ourselves enjoying the blooms it offers and wondering when that happened, and how we didn’t notice it.

Nature, on the other hand, has infinite patience and stays with a thing all the way through its life. This doesn’t mean that our efforts play no part in the miracle of change—they do. It’s just that they are one small part of the picture that finally results in the flowering of a plant, or our shifted awareness.. Its often we do not realise that those Dark Clouds which gathered did so for a purpose as they allowed us to let go of a situation or soften our hearts along the way…We have to remember all that happens is only One part of the Picture.. as we gather together the pieces of our Puzzle in this jig-saw of Life..

I dug out this poem I posted way back in 2007, It maybe that Dark Clouds are surrounded quite a few people and places right now.. But I know they are there for a purpose and after every storm we see a clearing in the air.. Those storms too in life are sometimes needed so that we can see a brighter new day … I hope you enjoy my poem ‘Dark Clouds’..as I hope for a Brighter New Day in the Lives of All in this World..

Dark Clouds

Dark clouds may be overhead.

And with them some rain may be shed.

The wind blows, and the air becomes chill

And all becomes silence, all is still

A flash of light, Heavens brilliant might

The dance of power, day turns to night.

An angry roar roles across the sky

As the storm takes hold, while passing by.

The raindrops fall, slow at first.

Then the Heavens open with torrential burst.

A few streaks of bright white light

But it’s not too long before it’s lost its might.

And as the thunder echoes in the distance

The bird’s start singing, awaking from the silence.

The clouds drift by revealing skies of blue.

And all is well in the misty hue.

And so in life, we have our troubles

When lightning strikes and anger bubbles.

But we ride the storm, even though there’s pain

For we know that soon the sun replaces the rain.

And in the brightness of a clear blue day,

We look back at the storms that passed our way.

The storms of life are here for a purpose,

To strengthen our love and bring with it tolerance.

You’ll never be sure when a storm might give rise.

So make the most of the sunny bright skies.

Hi Sue, how timely! We just had a big storm here in the literal sense. As you say, in terms of life, storms have their place. Sometimes we feel them brewing, other times things hit us out of nowhere. Always there is something to learn and, if we look for it, something to gain. Lovely post! Ruth 🙂

lightening, energizing the earth from heavens awesome powers. “Sky worms”.. I use to take our ‘Foster kids’ fishing (two boys) and we always stopped and dug our own worms. My little boys was startled by lightening one morning while getting the fish bait, I told him that lightening was worms falling from the sky. He said, “Really?” I said, “How else do they get so far down in the earth.” (chuckles) From then on, he was not so afraid of the lightening, I talked to him a couple weeks ago and he told me he was taking his boy fishing and going first to dig for worms, seems he enjoyed that more than fishing. Great Story Art about the Worms.. My granddad told me when I was small that if was a Big man in the sky who was gardening .. The Lightning was when he lit his pipe and the noise we could here was him trundling down the garden path with his wheelbarrow before he emptied it. That story never left me.. And I loved storms ever since, And as my Granddad smoked a pipe.. It brings back fond memories of my Granddad every time there is a storm.. 🙂 xx

I like to watch a good storm as long as nobody is hurt
in it I mean, I remember years ago at the coast being
trapped in the car for about twenty minutes during one
of the worst storms that I had witnessed… Afterwards
there was that smell of sulphur in the air, and the rain
just bucketed down too… Actually I quite enjoyed it 🙂

I like your posting Sue, it is very
nicely written my great friend 🙂 🙂

That sounded a scary few minutes Andro.. But they say in a Lightning storm a car is a safe place as it has rubber wheels???? I dont know.. I wouldnt like to try it out!!! to see…

But to echo your thoughts, Yes I love to watch a storm.. the best storm I watched was while on top of a valley, watching the rain sweep across and then be almost above the lightning as it struck in the centre of the Valley… I was as It happened sat parked up in a car at the time..:-) So nice and dry.. 🙂

I remember seeing a documentary on this exact same subject and the experiment was to form a lightening bolt directly onto the roof of a car, it was an amazing show and as assumed the lightening strike went to earth, so yes it is safe inside a car during a thunderstorm 🙂 Well in theory anyway, there wasn’t anyone in the car during the experiment 🙂 lol

I hope that you are planning a wicked weekend Sue 🙂 🙂

no matter what we think, we rarely are prepared for the storms. They do sometimes rise up out of nowhere. But we go about our business, and tend to our seedlings and plants, ride out the storm and hold on to the promise of bloom and beauty. A beautiful post, filled with hope.

We have been having storms for the past several days. I love big storms! There is something awe inspiring about them. Years ago I lived out in the middle of nowhere and could watch the storms over the desert, it was one of my favorite things. I would just sit on my front porch and watch the clouds and the lightening, strange I always found it peaceful.

This is great, Sue. No. 1 – I would read ANY post with a thunderstorm in it!

But re nature & its infinite patience… yes, it’s so so patient. I remember in kung fu being told I needed to learn patience. At the time, the comment from the sifu irritated me! Why do we get clues when we’re not ready? Oh, I know, they have impact & we recall them at the right time…

I had absolutely no idea electric storms affect us – truly. I only thought the moon “gets to us”.

    Very interesting!

There are plenty storms this time of year in Florida. In fact “Isaac” has targeted our shores. What will we do? Prepare for the worst; hope for the best.

This is a lovely verse Dreamwalker. Skies always clear to reveal blue again! No matter how dark life may seem in this moment brightness returns! Wonderful lessons to help those suffering in the darkness.

I can relate to that as have a personal story of “a seed” I attended to for years and years. I felt hopeless as it didn’t seem to come up. I relaxed and suddenly it emerged and starts to flower. The extacy is huge as it was so sudden Arohanui Marja

Nothing beats nature Gabrielle in her aftermaths of rain.. be it the drops still dripping from the leaves to the droplets upon petals and spiders webs. to rainbows in the sky, or steam from a pavement as we see the rainbow colours of oil in the puddles… Miracles are there in everything if we but take the time to look and really SEE them… Love and Light my friend ~Sue xxx

Glad I came across this beautiful poem… I truly agree with you when you say tat the storms of Life are here for a major purpose.

Your poem reminded me of this excerpt from Haruki Murakami’s book “Kafka on the shore”

“Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn’t something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn’t get in, and walk through it, step by step. There’s no sun there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones. That’s the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine.
And once the storm is over you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”

Beautiful and wise verses, dear Sue.
Best wishes to you. Aquileana 😀

Each of us, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives, and their reactions in turn affect others As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain. Your thoughts and actions are like stones dropped into still waters, causing ripples to spread and expand as they move outward.. I hope that I can send a few ripples out via the web of life, as we each of us weave the threads together... Welcome to my Sanctuary of Peace and Love... May we each spread our Lights around our World....Sue Dreamwalker
