The Gift~ of Innocence

Butterfy and Daisies

She sat upon the log staring into thin air when it landed.

Her gaze took in every detail of its delicate form as it sat resting upon the fabric of her flowing skirt.

She wanted to to move her hands, and bend closer to look. But she knew any sudden movement would disturb this beautiful creature.

Lovingly her eyes took in the wonderful structure of its delicate form, she saw the minute hairs upon its legs and body.

She found she was holding her breath, fearing even the slightest breeze would break the spell of its arrival..

The Sun was warm and as if to say to her this creature felt at home where it had landed it opened its wings wide to reveal its amazing colours.

She traced her gaze through its many veins upon its wings to marvel at how it was formed with such precision.  Its long tongue uncurled for a second to touch the fabric exploring the folds, She looked into its eyes and wondered what it must be like to viewing the world through them. As it flew high over fields and blossoms.

Her gaze misted and a salty tear fell beside this Wondrous Gift. As it landed the spell was broken, for the winged creature flew up hovering for a few seconds as it fluttered in its farewell dance above her head to fly higher….

Her gaze followed with a heart so full of love as she saw its innocence and perfection —  Then in one heart stopping moment her heart plunged in dismay as another winged creature flew at is so fast she barely saw but the blur of its flight as the Swift took hold of the Butterfly and it was gone……….

She had witnessed these final few moments of its precious life and it had chosen to share its gift of them with her..

More tears fell as she gazed once more into the abyss of thought, and the cycles of life and the way of the World….and the loss of Innocents ..

Always the hardest part of living for me has been to accept the cruelty of nature at times. My heart breaks for the creature that is eliminated from life yet I can also
understand the need of the aggressor as well for sustenance…It still pains my heart regardless. Great one DW…And I love Enigma!!! Such great music. They have gotten me through many a tough time. Good hearing that song again. Thank you for this lovely post. Thank you for being you 🙂 Blessings… VK

Yes, VK we all dont wish to see our wild life and animals suffer, and yet we understand the need for survival.. what I cannot accept is mans killing for pleasure, and he doesnt just stop at the Animal kingdom.. we see other innocents who suffer at mans cruel hand..Enigma holds a special place with many of its lyrics and Songs for me too. Glad you enjoyed, I hadnt intended to put that up, but as these things happen it fell into my view today so it was meant to be.. ~Sue 🙂

Sue, I could not agree more. This is SO beautiful. You write well, and yes, the beauty of nature is sometimes contradicted by instantaneous change . Some beautiful life forms die so others, equally beautiful, may live. Blessings! ~R

Yes Raymond, Nature can cast her spell and can weave her magic and also bring with her a chill to our spine as we see how her destructive forces sometimes sweep clean so that all can start anew…And this is called survival.. a word we should all acquaint ourselves with. ~Sue

Thank you Sheila, and you have such a beautiful Garden in which to view nature my friend, yes such is the way of Nature, I suppose we think Nature as being cruel and harsh at times, but I think the acts mankind does to his fellow human kind at times beats hands down anything Nature does in the theme of its survival instincts..Mankind I think out of all of this natural worlds creatures can be the cruelest of all…

Sue, first of all, lovely post!
And secondly, I love that song!
I’ve witnessed something similar in real life, last year I think, where a magpie attacked a raven for no reason, or so it seemed, just to be the victor. The raven’s mate cried and cawed over its lifeless body, and then walked away when it realised he/she wasn’t coming back.
I’d love to return to innocence, Sue.

Hi Tom, strange you should say about a Raven attacking.. I saw something too on Sunday that I had never seen before.. A Hawk landed on the branches of a high tree, it was a ways off but I’d been watching him/her for a while with his mate.. circling.. As it landed a Raven flew into the tree to attack the hawk and chase it off.. It didnt end there though. for the chase was on, the Raven attacked the Hawk in the sky but the Hawk was too swift and manoeuvred too well.. circling on the thermals effortlessly, while the Raven used its wings more to turn etc… The other Hawk joined the first one, and together they soared out of the reach of the Raven,, Maybe the Hawk had landed upon a nesting site.. as I know they are busy building now.. But this was a first for me to see.. The Hawks seemed not too worried and continued to circle higher.. We all seem to have our squabbles in life, it seems, even nature has her off days.. 🙂 Return to Innocence is a long time favourite of mine Tom.. and wouldnt we all… 🙂

Hi Sue, you transported me far from my working office and kitchen table, mess of paperwork, and everyday concerns and sat me in a breezy field of lavender and thyme, grass between my toes, and a precious delicate creature alighting before my unencumbered simple heart – then filled me again with wistful longing to hold onto those moments of innocence longer before having to face the heartache of embracing the Swift… which, too, will some day part. I am with you, that I wish we did not suffer (and cause so much suffering) at the hand of our own cruelty. Thanks for this piece of beauty. Blessings to you! Angela

Arrgh Deb, hope those tears have all dired up now.. and yes nature and life can be at times harsh .. I trust that all things have purpose in our lives.. I know that at times events which seem to unfold which seem cruel bring with them also a chance for us to grow and progress.. as we learn their lessons.. I only pray that Mankind sees and learns from his own past mistakes and understands that its time now to move forward in love and Peace, not hatered and wars… My prayers and thoughts are always directed to that aim….. Many thanks Deb for your wonderful support here.. xx ~Sue

We never stop learning Christy my friend.. in fact I have learnt much more out in nature than ever I did when at school.. I think we need to sit more in nature in the quiet and observe the goings on of all of nature.. The rustle of leaves in the breeze, the bark upon a tree and the many insects that live there, the grass as it sways beneath our feet. The sound of water over stones as it flows down a stream. We often walk around blinkered and deaf to nature as we walk .. I see many walking just chatting away, never seeing the many treasures along the way.. As they are all too often caught up within the dramers of last nights soap operas on TV..LOL
So good that you dropped in, I am on my way to catch up later and see what you have been up to very soon…
Blessings sent your way Christy.. ~Sue

Thank you Renee, that means a lot.. Gifts no matter how short come into our lives, and are treasured and held close to our hearts.. they may only be fleeting moments within Time, but they teach us to honour the ‘Present’ they bring…. For we all to often ignore the ‘Present Moments’ as our minds are off somewhere in the Past,, or way off into the Future… This showed me how each Moment could be the last.. so Make the most of each Gift we have in the Now.. And Worry not .. For in a blink of an eye.. it could be …. gone…. Blessings to you Renee.. xx

Thank you Cat, yes I have days like that, when a song or a thought pops into my mind and triggers a memory.. It means to me that those connected with that thought are thinking about me, or maybe I needed a boost that day, and the song or image creates that warm feeling of connection.. Even if that loved one is perhaps far away or on another dimension it means it allows the energy to flow …
Keep in that flow Cat… and So happy you enjoying your moments of Now.. ~Sue

What a true gift of joy and beauty in those fleeting moments from that butterfly! It seemed that it was meant to be, did it not? My father used to comfort me when I observed some tiny creature I loved being eaten by another. He would say,”Better that quick death than dying in the drought or the cold, right?” Of course, he was right. The cycles of Nature are revealed and yet remain mysteries of wonder, do they not, dear Sister Sue?

Often we look at Nature and say how cruel,, But as we understand the natural process we see Order in All things.. Balance in Nature has to be in order for all to survive… Mankind however has become out of Balance with Nature and himself, as he destroys not to survive, but to create a pool of wealth for himself, which takes and takes.. Never giving in return.
Nature herself is being abused on a huge scale and we are destroying our own habitat.. In order that our Earth Mother survives she too has to take innocents as she fights back within her elements.. This prospect saddens me greatly, But the process is already begun and we are here upon our Earth Mother to witness the Changes our Ancient ancestors foretold us of.. For there are also hidden agendas which are now coming to completion upon our planet, Which are set to cause more harm to our Earth Mother and to Mankind.. But I see also this Change will set about a reaction which is much needed, and out of the Chaos we shall see once again a Beautiful Earth.. and One I pray holds our respect for All life and Peace and Harmony will reign once again..
Thank you Unsung ~ for your comments here. xx

Each of us, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives, and their reactions in turn affect others As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain.
