The SkyLight

A Rainy Afternoon Poem.

I wrote this poem several years ago now. And I had forgotten that I had written it, until I was looking through some scraps of paper the other day. It was written on a rainy afternoon when spending a weekend away at a seaside town. The Hotel had only this room left which was on the Top Floor in the roof space..

The Skylight

The window in the roof is square and very plain

Laying beneath its opening counting rivulets of rain

Now you would think a window skyward cloud is all you’d spy

But laying beneath the Skylight a story to tell have I

Of how the Sun casts her rays cutting sharply through the room

And how the Moon brings her magic, lighting up the gloom

The clouds forever changing creating patterns in the sky

And the never ending Seagulls swiftly swooping by.

The shadows of these birds dance across the floor

As I lay here and ponder, what it must feel like to soar

A seaplane I spied just briefly, was that just yesterday?

A lost balloon blown skyward, to some poor chills dismay

And if I close my eyes, through the window comes the sound

Cry of gulls on roof tops, and traffic from the ground.

Now there’s the noise of a chopper as it flies out over-sea.

I stand up now on tip toe, but alas I cannot see.

Here Am I just looking skyward, with a room without a view

The scenery ever changing writing these words to you.

The Sun reflects the Skylight square upon the bed

I smile at another cloud shape, is that an eagles head?

You may think the skyward view is lacking in its appeal

But heavenly spangled stars are beautiful and real

They twinkle like sequins sewn upon velvet cloth

And when I put the light on, look how I attract the Moths.

So window in the roof, you are far from being plain

Someday I shall revisit and take in your view again.

Each of us, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives, and their reactions in turn affect others As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain. Your thoughts and actions are like stones dropped into still waters, causing ripples to spread and expand as they move outward.. I hope that I can send a few ripples out via the web of life, as we each of us weave the threads together... Welcome to my Sanctuary of Peace and Love... May we each spread our Lights around our World....Sue Dreamwalker
