People Power and Plants..

I asked you in a  post last year How do we put the world to rights? Suggesting we look in the mirror starting with ourselves.. As Spring is urging us to start and plant seeds as those who grow their own vegetables like my Hubby and I, we have  already prepared the ground and the veggie seeds are already germinating.

Below you will see a short TEDx talk from Pam  who is a co- founder of the Incredible Edible Todmorden initiative, which encourages ordinary people to take control of their communities and their surroundings through civic engagement and food.

I urge you to listen to Pam who  6 years on from starting the project informs with her humorous  banter how that transformational journey in her town of Todmorden has progressed..

She shows how through planting and growing food and sharing it with the town, by turning waste land into gardens that produce food which all the town are invited to pick and eat for free.  She has shown  how the Belief in small Actions have snow balled  in a knock on effect in the community..

And it shows how we each of  us can make a difference in creating a better world.. Where we are not relying on the local authorities.. She speaks how it has set in motion a chain of interests which have benefited local farmers, shops and education as children get involved. And how people are sharing their skills with each other..

Change Begins with Us.

We are the Change

She speaks of how crime also was reduced and people started to take pride in their environment… And how local police liaised better than ever with their local community.

Enjoy the video and expect to laugh as some of Pam’s expressive language.

As I go and plant some More Seeds !

Thank you for reading and viewing..

Petitions Do Help! ~Friday Facts

As some of you may know I support Avaaz and from time to time I have shared a particular petition with you, Its good to know that when we click those petitions we get results…. Below I received an email which I want to share showing how our clicks have helped in various campaigns… and to all those who I know support Avaaz The World in Action,

A BigThank you too…

~~

“Dear amazing community,
I often get asked by Avaazers, “what happens after I sign a petition?” And the truth is, a HECK of a lot! Every Avaaz campaign springs from a massive global mandate, and then zeroes in on the best way for our voices to win. Here’s just two of our victories from the last few weeks:
Remember when 2 million of us came together to stop the flogging of a 15-year old rape victim in the Maldives? Her sentence
has been quashed! Here’s what our team did to win:

Maldives ad

Our ads threatened the profits of officials who owned parts of the tourism industry

  1. Spoke for hours with the Maldivian Attorney-General and Ministers and emailed the President at his personal account.
  2. Commissioned opinion polls showing massive support for reforms to protect girls. And wrote an Op-Ed in a major national paper.
  3. Persuaded a top Islamic scholar to speak out against flogging.
  4. Threatened to run an ad (right) in tourism publications, affecting the country’s major industry.
  5. Visited the Maldives and the location where the girl was held, pressing officials directly.

Ahmed Shaheed, former Foreign Minister of the Maldives said “The Avaaz contribution was the spearhead of the campaign to overturn the flogging sentence; a petition signed by millions, a country visit, a public opinion survey, and persistent follow-up all proved irresistible.”

Another example: Remember how almost 2 million of us rallied to stop the Maasai tribe in Tanzania from being kicked off their land for a hunting reserve? Last week, the Prime Minister announced they could stay! The petition provided a powerful basis for what the team did next:

Maasai

Maasai women gather to protest the eviction. Photo by Jason Patinkin

  1. Got CNN and the Guardian to visit the Maasai and break the wider story to the world.
  2. Advised Maasai elders on their campaigning strategy.
  3. Flooded Ministers and the President with messages — forcing a debate in cabinet and Parliament.
  4. Ran a hard hitting newspaper ad in an influential paper which publicly shamed the government.
  5. Persuaded diplomats worldwide to raise the issue — embarrassing the government.
  6. Financially supported Maasai elders to travel to the capital where they gathered to ‘occupy’ land outside of the Prime Minister’s office for weeks, refusing to leave until he met them.

Education cheque

Gordon Brown said: "A million dollars has been raised via the brilliant Avaaz.org, in just a few days."

Key Brazilian Senator joins Avaaz "open Brazil Open Votevote" naked protest sending a clear message: "we have nothing to hide"

The victory belongs to the Maasai people, but our community helped them win by making this a global issue the government could no longer ignore. This hopefully ends a 20 year land battle!!
Of course, our community does a LOT more than petitions. Last week, we raised a $1 million challenge grant in a few days to donor governments to put Syrian refugee kids in school. At a
UN meeting, I was able to put a cheque on the table and issue the challenge on behalf of over 40,000 Avaaz donors. UN Education Envoy Gordon Brown, who chaired the meeting, called our community’s effort a "magnificent and impactful intervention" in getting other governments to give!
And often it’s not the Avaaz team but our community that does the direct lobbying. For example in Brazil, we’re inches away from winning a massive fight to end the shady practice of ‘secret voting’ in the Congress. Our huge push helped
win the vote in the lower house and right now, Senators’ telephones are ringing off the hook as Avaaz members across Brazil use our online calling tool to directly tell them to stop this corruption — experts say a win is likely in days!
It’s this unique magic mix between a gigantic and spirited community of citizens able to speak out, donate, and lobby, and a small team of top notch advocates able to take smart, strategic actions at the highest level with democratic legitimacy, that makes our campaigns increasingly unstoppable.
If we keep believing in each other, and growing in size and in commitment, there’s no limit to the good we can do in the world. Thank you so much for the honour and the joy to be part of and serve this community. It’s something truly precious we have here — let’s keep building Avaaz.
With love and appreciation,
Ricken and the team

PS — You might not know that Avaaz is different from just about every other global organization in that we are 100% funded and guided by our community. Every campaign we run is first polled and tested to a random sample (you might think of it as a jury) of our community, that tells us exactly how the whole the community will react. I may be the CEO, but you’re my boss. If you don’t like something (and I don’t mean 51% like it, but 81% like it) then our team go back to the drawing board and come up with a better option for you. We have never, ever, broken this rule. So at the end of the day, it is your wisdom, the collective wisdom of our community, matched with the smartest suggestions the team hears from you and come up with ourselves and from our partners and experts, that determines what we do every single day.
When you add to that the fact that 100% of our funding comes from small online donations (we strictly refuse any donations from corporations, governments, foundations, and even individual donations over 5000 Euros), I think Avaaz may be one of the purest organisational expressions of people-powered change in the world today. Make that an organisation served by a beautiful team of wonderfully talented and deeply committed people that I wish I could introduce you all to, and we’ve got a kind of magic that can build the world we dream of.”

Change is the Air and You are It!

I’m always going on about how our thoughts create. How they can lift our spirits or they can be our worst enemy and bring us to our knees..

This weekend I managed to chill out.. Sunday my Hubby and I packed our ruck sack and drove out to enjoy the scenery and walks in the Derbyshire Peak District.. These are the valleys I walked as a child, where you could walk out with out fear and villages would leave their doors unlocked and everyone in the village would know everyone else. How times have changed!…

As I  walked the tension of the last week slipped from my shoulders as I breathed in the fresh air and basked in the Sun. We walked passed endless wild flowers in hedgerows and meadows, seeing the blossom on trees and glimpses of nesting birds fetching worms and insects to feed their young.

We passed this wonderful Field full of knee high Buttercups, Here it is with a Horse Chestnut Tree standing proud in the Middle of a sea of yellow Buttercups..

Buttercup Field with Horse-Chestnut Tree

Another View of Buttercups in the meadow

And as I breathed the air into my lungs, I felt it fill me up with energy and it got me thinking. How the Air we all breathe is invisible to all, and yet as I looked up I saw the clouds drifting across the sky as the grass swayed in the fields. The birds and the insects and many butterflies I saw all using this same invisible Air all travelling, all busy creating new life to carry on their species..

Headstone Tunnel at Monsal DaleInside the Tunnel

We walked along a disused train track, that is now a cycle path.. A few years ago the  HeadstoneTunnel of this track was re-opened and I think it took us around 5 minutes to walk through its length around a long curve of 490 metres until we saw the light at the other end.  As we entered it was cold and damp, but there are lights installed in the ceiling and although very dark you can see your way… Children on bikes rang their bells and turned on their lamps and screamed and shouted to one another and their parents joined in the fun, as the echo of the Tunnel amplified their voices as they rode through the tunnels length…

It made me think again how Air is the element of communication.. How when we speak it travels, Our voices can be a mere whisper, or we can bellow… Like the Wind it can be but a breeze or a Tornado ..  Our words have power and we can use them to comfort or  to chastise, we can use them to Heal or to Wound.. and I know how often words can cut sharper than any knife, or soothe  like balm…

Air is also the element through which our thoughts travel, Our thoughts in construction travel out like radio waves into the ether using the element of Air to travel.  Our thoughts are Energy,We may not see them, but then neither do we see the Air, but its there!… Invisible just the same..

How many thoughts do we think in a day?.

Are They Positive or Negative?

We Can send out a prayer for someone as  we send out healing, and often we send out our compassion through our emotional thoughts. So too can we pick up on others thoughts, we often instinctively know when some one is feeling down.. Or happy, for the energy they emit travels through the air as we pick up those feelings . Some go one stage further using Telepathy or clairvoyance which are deeper levels of this ability which we all have, but have forgotten how to use.

While I was walking along I was thinking how wonderful this Planet is and how Nature no matter what the elements throw at it, It still thrives to bloom and grow to the best it can be…

Here are some wonderful views of Wild flowers and just look at those dandelions which are thriving high up on the Rock ledges..

Dandelions growing in rock face

Wild Flower Mixture

Our thoughts can create harmony or they can be destructive and even bring illness upon ourselves.. What ever we give out comes back.. Such is the nature of creation in its circular cycles.

Air is always in motion.. Air swirls and eddies and whirls back on itself.. It moves things along.. It whips things up, creating Change..

My blogging community  has become a global family, we communicate through technology, we are no longer isolated we are in instant contact across vast distances..

Never before have the events around our world been transmitted via satellite into our homes via the media and TV so quickly.  And in an instant our thoughts are affected with the emotions we are giving out with what we are witnessing as we think! and thus send back out into the ether either positive or negative thoughts!

The Nature of our Communication with our global family is crucial for a healthy planet.  We are seeing Old patterns of living altering.. We are witnessing the breaking Free.. We need to move beyond Fear and we need to open up our thoughts in non-judgemental ways as we each of us take responsibility not only for our Actions..  We each need to understand the importance of the Power of Thoughts and how collectively they need to break free of old doctrines and embrace Unity and Harmony, that all are equal. And its time that this divide of Rich and Poor be addressed.

We may not realise the power we all possess , but others do. and so our minds are constantly bombarded with Fear from those communication devices.. Learning how to meditate within our quiet places , going out within Nature and finding our own inner balance within ourselves, we are able to direct out thoughts and intentions. It may not seem a lot.. But our Thoughts DO make a huge difference to the Collective Consciousness.

The more we communicate from our hearts then the more others will want to do the same.. Sending healing love out into the world…

We too can use this Great Communication Tool.. And spread out our thoughts to create a more harmonious Caring World..

So when next you send out your voice into the Ether, Remember it is energy and remember it travels out into the air..

Remember also what we think is also sent out into the Ether.

Change is in the Air

Let it begin with You!

Blessings ~Sue

Precious Moments~ Make Each One Count.

Candles of Peace

Every disaster around the world makes us think how fragile we are. Each Life lost is a precious gem that has enriched our Earth and our lives. Every soul upon their path contributing to the Web of our existence. And still we ask that age old Question of WHY? Why is life seemingly cut short, Why do such disasters occur? Why do our loved ones suffer? Why are such tragedies occurring around our globe. Not only now in the recent Storm of Oklahoma, but in the many storms that man makes around our globe as he takes up arms against his own species in war.. not to mention all the other atrocities that happen to Man and beast.

Events such as the one we have seen in Oklahoma and others around our world such as the Tsunami’s, the Hurricanes, and Earthquakes around our globe, show us just how small mankind is in the face of Nature, and how in the Blink of an Eye all we held dear could be swept away.

Below is part of a personal poem I wrote some years ago, I have adapted for this post, you can find the fuller first version of it Here .  So as you begin your day, as you send your loved ones on their way remember as you wave them goodbye All could change Because………….

In the Blink of an Eye

You never know when fate comes knocking at your door.

His calling card delivered a reminder to us all,

Enjoy each precious moment, as Mr Grim could pay a call.

For in a Blink of an Eye, all you hold dear could be lost

So Hug and tell your dearest you love them the most.

Life could slip through your fingers, just like a grain of sand.

So reach out and hold each others hand.

For Moments are Precious they are the only ones we live

Embrace each other as we learn to share and give

My Love and Prayers go out around the world to whom ever is facing pain and loss… You have my thoughts……

Sue Dreamwalker

So Where Do we go from here?

The Planet is in our Hands

So, where do we go from here?

Quiet simply the world is in our hands.. Its all about our choices, not our neighbours or our governments, Its about the choices We make which make a difference.

My own thoughts are that we have to start and embrace a simpler way of living, we have to stop ‘Wanting’ all the time.. We Want what is ‘best for a children’, We want the ‘best Money can Buy’ We Want the ‘Best Education’ We Want the ‘Best Health Care’.. We Want ‘Peace’ We Want ‘Better Lifestyles’  We Want ‘our Freedom’! We want! Want! and Want! .And yet none of these are relevant if we haven’t the Planet on which to live and enjoy these Wants..

I don’t propose we go back to primitive lifestyles, But we need to look at all the waste  products we create, What we buy, how we recycle. What foods we Eat.

We can no longer bury our heads in the sand and hope it all goes away..We all need to rethink the way we each live our lives.. We are going to all have to take stock about what we Want for our future generations to come, and we are all of us in the future are going to have to adjust to living simpler life styles as the changes on our planet take effect.

Our World is Changing before our eyes, we are all of us witnessing the ‘Shift’ in our awareness as we link into the mass consciousness of like minded thinking..

But how do we Change?

Where do we go from here to create these changes?

We need to start thinking differently about ourselves, we need to start and Live Consciously within our daily lives.. Those choices we make every day- We the consumer have impact in our societies, and we impact globally..  Its already happening Here  and Here it starts small, but its happening.

How many of us have seen our communities die as Big supermarkets come to town,.. We all want to buy cheapest, but at what cost.. Did you really look at your labels and did you support your local community? Do we really think about recycling  the paper and plastic we buy and throw away? What ways are we helping our environment and local communities? Did you look around your own Towns lately and see just how many boarded up shops are on the high street?

I was so pleased with the responses from my last post The Domino Effect and all the comments. This post broke my record of the most likes in one day of 40 likes, and the comments were remarkable..

I want to share some of those comments here with you…

Livingsimplyfree Said—-….”If each of us took a stand for what we really believe in, staying true to our values, as I am trying to do I think we could make huge changes that the government and those corporations would have to listen to. For instance, my local grocer has listened to us ask for local and organic foods. During our growing season you will find the vast majority of the produce section set out with the signs telling you exactly which farm (and location) the food came from. That’s a huge difference from past years. I will only buy what I need from the local farmers in the store when available. That’s staying true to my values.

Duma Key  Said…………“The system is fundamentally flawed and the links are missing, the whole thing set out to provide and protect as become so lost, that it no longer knows what it is.
Its crazy that in this day and age, people struggle to feed their families, struggle to heat there homes….and yet day by day we churn out more and more rubbish that we don’t need………..”

DavidTenn Said ….” This internal change is only the start and once we have changed ourselves the world will begin to follow. As you say Sue when 100 of us monkeys come together in like mind Wow! Watch out world! Here we come.”

beverley Said … “There is so much noise in the world today that too many people do no feel or hear the rhythm of life that is going on all around us……………”

penpusherpen Said…..  “the choice is definitely ours, Sue, and some days it’s hits you like a smack in the face that things are not right, will never be right ’til we all face up to our responsibilities…….”

Bodhirose Said…… “I hardly pay attention to the news and media blitzes any more because what you place your attention on is what will expand in your consciousness. I’ve realized that I need only be the best that I can be..the most positive in my own life and that will trickle out by that domino effect and reach out into the world. I believe every vibration that we emit goes onward and outward into infinity. That’s all and the best I can do……………”

andrewmstevenson said…..  “………………It is possible, if desired, to live a simpler life. We lack only the will. I do believe there is a shift globally to put the future in more capable hands: our own!…..”

These are just some of a few selected comments, you can read them all in full and my replies on my Post. So what do we do and Where do we go from here? Have you  even stopped to think about it and see ways in which you too can help change our environment and ways of living with recycling and creating ways to make your earnings go further? I know many out there are now sharing ways in which they are doing just that.

As you know I am a great advocate of our Minds over Matter, and our thoughts DO have a huge impact as we send out our vibrations into the world.. I resonated deeply with Bodhirose’s comment in what we place our attention on it will expand in consciousness..

If we Fear the changes we see taking place as the Crisis’s seemingly escalate around our world then Fear is what we will draw to us and chaos will reign .. But if we embrace these changes and do things in our own lives to help sustain and benefit not only our own lives but our local communities we are sending out a ripple to open up our hearts to each other..

We need now to stop fearing and start once again to trusting in each other, instead we huddle in our homes, locking doors behind us, no longer do we even know our neighbours, We need now to pull together..

That is why sometimes it takes a disaster in our lives to bring the community together again.. Lets not wait for a disaster to do that.. But reach out with your hearts now…. Even a Smile to a stranger is a start..

Its the intent that you send out with your minds that ripple out into that domino effect.. Let them be positive and full of love….

So My Question is.. Where Do We Go from Here?

And I would love to hear your Answers..

Another Year~ Childhood Memories

May is upon us already.. and with it another year for me draws to its maypole_thumbcompletion.. As I mark another year to my calendar today. The Month of May begins for me with a Celebration of memories.. May is the time when blossoms bloom, and bluebells flower.

I look back within my mind at my childhood, my youth and now my autumn years.. As I see the many changes which unfolds within a life time..I reflect today the many colours which have contributed to my life.. And like the Maypole ribbons each one woven in their own unique colours as they streak through my mind.. Some clear, while others have blown away in the passing of time.

May brings back memories of many birthdays and as I sit and pen this post of memories, I see myself aged 7 dancing the May-Pole in my Village of Stoney Middleton with one of the rare new dresses I would have to wear.. As my Aunt would buy us all a new Easter outfits just once a year. ( as my parents were not so well off ), which often would be miles too big.But I remember well this day in May as I danced with glee, for my dress in poker-dots of blue velvet on white net, like a ballerinas gown was my pride and joy.. I was a princess that day ~I remember lining up in the church vestry waiting to skip out onto the Nook in a line on cue to music, as we took our positions and picked up our ribbons from the boys who stood in the middle keeping the pole sturdy. ~ It mattered not that day that my dance partner a boy, who when we danced over and under went the wrong way and we all got entangled as we skipped our way around the central circle Pole. And our teacher came to our aid as we untangled ourselves..

We would as children gather our mothers bluebells from the valley and later it would be Lilies of the Valley.I can still smell their perfume as I see the images within my minds eye as we would tie them into the small circles of Posies .

My brother would get into trouble for climbing trees, to look into birds nests. But then we all climbed and swung on trees making rope ladders and swings and dens in the wood. We skipped over the meadows picking the many large Moon Penny Daisies and Buttercups and jumped the local brook. I remember being chased off private land near our local small private Middleton Hall by their Gardener..The same Hall that held garden parties for the village on Wakes week, when the Wells were Dressed with the Wells Dressings , with WI stalls of home made cakes and jams. The Tombola stall, and the Lucky Dip..And roll a penny.. Tug of War completions in fancy dress.. Morris Dancing’s, And how All the villages pulled together..

And we would help the local Farmer at harvest time with haymaking, taking two or three of us at a time to drag the square bales of hay into piles for the tractor to collect..

Dad would catch wild rabbits and we would get Rabbit stew on the menu quite regular.. Meat was expensive but we had Pheasants and partridges too, Living near to Chatsworth House my Dad knew someone who when they had their game shoots, the birds which were too badly shot damaged would go cheap.. I remember well sat around the table and Dad saying ‘chew well’, as we all spat out the led shot pellets as they clanked on our plates..

I often find some of those early memories are clearer in my mind than that which I did yesterday…..

May is a special month of the Year.. And just wanted to share a few childhood Memories .. As I Look back today.

Seeds~Communities and Co-Creation~

Seeds

Each year we, the Dreamwalker Household  plant our Allotment with a selection of Vegetables. On the right you see the beginnings of Life. On Sunday I planted Sweet-corn, Runner Beans, Cauliflower, Cabbage, and Sprouts, and Broccoli etc. A higgledy mess at the moment in our Green house.

I am going to open up a Fresh Page called GROWING YOUR OWN. Where I hope to show the progress through out this year of our Vegetable patch in the Allotments..

Allotments are very popular here, with people who want to grow their own crops, and for those of you who have grown your own, you understand why. They taste as vegetables should taste, and you know that they haven’t been covered in herbicides.   Where I live the allotments are only a few minutes walk away, The land was donated by the Duke of Portland who designated it  as Freehold for the use of Allotments Gardens for the common man a couple of generations ago now.

Why am I starting a Page about Vegetable growing? We as a family have grown our own for a number of years since our children were small, and love our fresh vegetables and fruits such as strawberries, Raspberries, Rhubarb, Gooseberries and lots of Blackberries.. I Feel now as we are heading into our Earth Changes at speed, its important for others to start and understand how fragile our economy is, and how we can soon get caught out when things start to crumble..

We only need but see how people panic buy when the shops close for a couple of days, and while  I do not wish this post to sound negative, We have all of us got to open up our eyes more to what is taking place around this world, as the huge corporations take over crippling our rights to grow our own Food. As they( genetically modify , part 1)  (for part 2 & 3 click  links 2  and Links 3  of this story of GM Products, you will be amazed and concerned at the findings by scientists as animals die, Cancers are detected and Allergies occur as authorities  condone and endorse these products where testing has been proven to be inadequate in Soya Modified crops. )

www.findhornimages.com

For those who have heard of Findhorn  Foundation in Scotland  you can see how from one persons Vision a whole community and way of life was born, around sustaining themselves and eco living. It now has one of the lowest ecological footprints in the developed world and it has also gained United Nations recognition, also seeding other communities around the world as a founder member of the Global Eco-village Network.

The reason I want you to explore Findhorn is that it is also a centre for Holistic Learning, which each year attracts Students and Seekers from around our World.~I need you to start and think again outside your boxes, As we go through our Earth changes there will come a time when our electronic systems will be of little use.. and for those who may laugh and scoff, while I wouldn’t want to have the last laugh, I would want to think I was in some way prepared!.. You need to start and rely upon your intuition more as we open up our Hearts Centres we will see communities needing to pull together once more..  We have only just begun to see the changes taking place.. As our Weather patterns alter and our Earth starts to shake us up to some truths..

The media are not informing us of the consequences of the Suns solar flares, or the probable volcanic eruptions which are starting now to accelerate at an alarming rate around our world. Nor are they telling us of the Military manoeuvres in the Middle East.. But again I ask you to look outside your boxes and inform yourselves, Do not ever take my word on any thing.. Question and seek your own answers..

This post while I want it to remain as positive as it can be, I also think its time now to Wake up to the many destructive forces taking place around our world.. Which many have their eyes closed to.

I remember only in March 2010 when the Iceland volcano (Eyjafjallajökull) erupted spewing larva and ash into the air how it grounded planes.. It wasn’t long before the Fresh Vegetables and Fruits dried up in our Supermarkets as no imports were getting in from abroad via plane.. The knock on effects do not take long to overspill to the consumer who as we have only just seen here in the UK react in mad panic when told there is going to be a shortage as we have just witnessed with the Mad dash to fill up our Cars with Petrol, which all stemmed from an official government rumour.

So as I am always asking you to open your hearts and give of yourselves, as I ask you to  promote positivity and kindness which brings our communities together..I am also asking you to start and think about our modern day resources and how you would perhaps cope if suddenly you didn’t have them at your finger tips?

Getting in touch with Nature, just planting a few flower seeds is a start.. We have to start and look at the teachings of our Native American Indian Brothers once again as we connect back to Mother Earth helping her and ourselves to heal..

So I will leave you with this quote..

Lakota Instructions for Living

Friend do it this way – that is,
whatever you do in life,
do the very best you can
with both your heart and mind.

~
And if you do it that way,
the Power Of The Universe
will come to your assistance,
if your heart and mind are in Unity.

~
When one sits in the Hoop Of The People,
one must be responsible because
All of Creation is related.
And the hurt of one is the hurt of all.
And the honor of one is the honor of all.

~
And whatever we do effects everything in the universe.
If you do it that way – that is,
if you truly join your heart and mind
as One – whatever you ask for,
that’s the Way It’s Going To Be.

The Community ~Where is it Today?

From the Family Album

Looking back over the photos of yesteryear Its hard to understand how you come to the place you are today. Many things happen within everyone’s families that either bring them closer together or drives them apart. And the same goes for whole communities but we call this progression as we embrace a more modern way of living.

In my post Horsing Around My Village  which took me back down memory lane as I recalled my early childhood and gave a glimpse into Village life  in the Derbyshire Peak District. It got me thinking how when I was in junior school probably age 9 or 10 We made a model of the whole village using matchbox’s stuck together all shapes and sizes.. Each of us had to make our own home out of a matchbox  and paint etc. While our teacher who was also the headmaster of our school Mr Paddley created a huge Map of Stoney Middleton  out of Plywood in which we could stick our homes next the roads, fields etc. which he had painted.

We carefully placed our homes upon the map alongside our famous fish and chip shop which at the time was run by a lovely lady called Eleanor.. Who would give you the scraps for nothing to us kids that would hang around on the nights it was open.Somehow I cant see that happening today…. Hummm,  I can smell that chippy now .. Its still there and is still a chip shop in the Toll Gate house.. Which was built in 1840 as a Toll House to collect dues from travellers on the old Turnpike road .

Anyhow my point is that this Matchstick Village we created we were able to name everyone who lived in our village and we did what I suppose you would call our own school Census that term as we were able to count how many people lived in our Village..Today I think there are around 750 people who live there today , but in my day I remember I could name every household member..

There were 3 Pubs back then the Grouse Inn, The Royal Oak and the Moon Inn…Today only the Moon Inn has survived.. There were 3 shops, Arnolds, Dysons, and Nettleships..Two Butchers both named Hancocks  one at the top of the village hill which adjoined his farmhouse and one at the bottom of the village, these shops were named after their owners surnames.. There was also a Post Office and local Barber who had a wooden shed at the bottom of his Garden..The ladies of the Village had to travel to the next Village Calver Sough to get their hair done in another wooden hut..

Today there are now No shops in the village and No post office the only remaining shop in the village today is the FarmShop which used to be Hancock’s Butchers and the chip shop .

Family Album Wakes WeekStoney Middleton Well-Dressings I see my Grandmother and Aunts and Uncles in this photo, but I don’t know which year it was taken.

It brings home to me how our Communities have changed. I had to move away from my own village when I got married as there were no new homes that were being built and the ones that were for sale the younger generation couldn’t and still can’t  afford to buy in the Derbyshire Peak, so City Business people came in and bought up the homes as old Villages passed away..some using as homes with others using as Holiday cottages. And now neighbours are strangers today and we lock the doors behind us when we come home.  We no longer communicate to each other as we scurry around our daily lives trying to earn a living so we can buy the next gadget advertised on the TV and give our Kids what we never had..All in the name of progress..

Jobs are scarce for the younger generation.. Gone are the days you could turn up at a place of work and be set on the next day as an apprentice and learn your skill from the bottom up. Manufacturing Industries have taken the bulk of their work overseas leaving us with less employment, and ALL of it for Profit and Greed. The youth of today are bored and Jobless and so turn to other means to entertain themselves.. And many elderly people are fearful of passing youngsters who now congregate together on street corners, and who dare to challenge the authorities and their elders knowing they can’t be touched if under age so grow up with no discipline or respect.

We have become a society ruled by debt in order to obtain Material goods we cant afford to pay for.. We have become societies of Greed.. as we put possessions before people.

We all of us have come to experience the Material World on the Earth Plane, but along the way of gathering those possessions we have lost the community spirit. In fact we have lost Our Spirit and our connection to each other and nature as we take everything for granted.

Last winter we had the coldest winter with heavy snow for at least 50 yrs here in the UK… On our street many neighbours joined together and spoke for the first time to each other in years as they rallied around and helped each other dig out our road of snow. But it took a crisis to bring about that Unity of pulling together to help one another.

This is why Changes are in the air, we all feel it, Sense it, as weather patterns alter, as Nations rebel against their tyrant leaders, as the Monetary issues cannot possible carry on the way they are…As we see the Crisis with the Euro coming to a head.

Our World needs to change…We are the Communities so we are the ones who need to look, really look at ourselves and realise the Change starts with Self..  This is why many are now saying enough is enough and starting to speak out.

WE have got to change .. And that is why we cannot sustain living within this Zone of  Material Greed putting Possessions First..

We have to start and put People First… and bring back a Caring Community who works together in unity and harmony….For if we don’t the Chaos we will generate is unthinkable.

About Me..

I am but an ordianry Soul Who would just like to take you for a stroll Down a Road of Truth and Light Helping others and giving insight I walk my path trying to help others along the way, I hold a Dream of life, to end decay. My Path is long and the road maybe rough. But each of us has to try give back and say enough’s enough. So I share my vision through poems and thought. Of hopes and dreams in this life we get caught. And if you should stumble upon my page. Leave me your comment for you too are a Sage.. Each of us is like a pebble as we cast our thoughts out into the Ocean of Life. I hope that I can send a few ripples out via the web of life, as we each of us weave the threads together... Welcome to my Sanctuary of Peace and Love... May we each spread our Lights around our World....Sue Dreamwalker
